    Nsv!

    Congratulations!
  2. Since the original topic was Vitamins and coffee for Breakfast, I gotta say ... vitamins are put to use best by the body when taken with food.
  3. I had the same thought re proactive. I didn't think to ask for samples, though - I just went to the 2 sources recommended by my surgeon / NUT: BariatricAdvantage.com and CelebrateVitamins.com. My way of going about it was to make a list of each Vitamin and mineral recommended / required by my surgeon, and then make notes out beside each re cost at each of the 2 sites. Be careful to figure in the units of measure for each one... eg if the Multivitamin you choose has 200 mg of magnesium in each tablet and you'll be taking 2 tablets a day, then you can subtract 400 mg of magnesium from what you'll need in the form of magnesium tablets. Then I looked at the flavors listed, and since I really dislike orange / citrus, it was pretty easy for me to choose. I've only had to make one change re Vitamins since surgery: Turns out the flavor of the Calcium citrate I chose is too intense for me, so I changed to the chocolate and the caramel chewies instead. The latter have only 250 mg per chew, so I'll have to order twice as many of those compared to the chewable tablets. And, I have a great big tub of the tablets I no longer want.... Oh, well ... cost of getting used to my new way of eating.

    Self - Pay Costs?

I paid the surgeon $5,000 and the hospital $7,500 in Dallas - total of $12,500.

    No Liquids With Meal

I wish I had practiced that before surgery. I'm still on liquids only, so I haven't faced implementation of it yet... but it worries me. I'm very reassured to know it will get easier.

    Weight Ticker

At the top right of each screen is "Hello" and your name. Click on your name, and from the submenu choose My Tickers. Follow the prompts.

    Bra After Surgery?

    No problem here either.
  8. At the top right of each screen is "Hello" and your name. Click on your name, and from the submenu choose My Patient Profile. (Not My Profile, but My PATIENT Profile.) Scroll down until you find the field for the type of surgery. Not positive this will do it, but it's worth a try.
  9. I'm 8 days post op and doing VERY well - getting in my Protein & Water without difficulty. Had been taking a chewable Calcium tab from CelebrateVitamins.com but decided the taste was not to my liking so yesterday rec'd my new kind from same company - chocolate chew calcium. Took 2 last evening, and no problem. I'll take chocolate taste over berry any day! The caramel flavor is yummy also. (Just note they're 250 mg each, not 500 mg.) This morning while driving to work I was having my Premier Protein shake, and decided to have a calcium chew also. After a few minutes I was a little queasy (first time since hospital), then definitely nauseated. It went away after a half hour or so, but then I was light-headed and a bit dizzy. I started drinking water, and that helped. All symptoms are gone now. I think I had a very mild episode of dumping. Lesson learned: Wait until later in the day to have anything that tastes the LEAST bit sweet, even if it's sweetened with maltilol.
  10. I am 8 days post op today, and I have that main-incision "stitch" too. The discomfort in mine seems to come and go without rhyme or reason, though. I'm glad to hear it will go away.

    "egg" Under My Incision

Your ticker says surgery was just 16 days ago... that's pretty fast for scar tissue to form and be that size. Maybe ask your surgeon for some kind of imaging study - maybe sonogram -- just to be sure it is what he thinks it is?
  12. I've been taking my Prilosec in capsule form since 3rd day post op, and no problem.
  13. I'm in Dallas also. Dr Jeffrey Henke did my sleeve a week ago - Wed 11/13. He's in practice with Dr. Joseph Kuhn, who is better known. I haven't had any difficulty getting my Water / Protein in since post op day 2. I'm going back to work tomorrow. The Vitamins I like are from CelebrateVitamins.com, and the Protein shakes I like best - actually, the only ones I can stand - are Premier Protein chocolate. I actually like them! Welcome to the group! Everyone has been VERY supportive, and very helpful.

    Terrified Of Eating Out!

I applaud you for doing it your way and being so close to your goal! I think what you outline sounds ideal - eat the foods you want, just very small portions. Do you adhere to the Don't drink while eating rule?
  15. Thank you one and all. I appreciate you!
  16. I'm 5 days post op VSG, and my incisions are still so tender that I can't wear even loose elastic waist pants for more than about 30 minutes. Pain meds help some, but not enough. I'm planning to go back to work day after tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll be able to because of this. Otherwise everything is fine - able to get in all required Water and Protein without a problem.
  17. No, nobody mentioned that. I'm thinking it's the compression of my abdomen that is the problem, so I'm not sure that would be the answer. But it would be worth a try...
  18. WHY is he against it? If he is only attracted to very heavy women, then you have a decision to make - are you going to stay heavy (and forego becoming healthier) just to satisfy that part of his likes/dislikes?
  19. We who have been sleeved (mine was 11/13) need the Protein to heal - especially in teh immediate post-op period. If you can find a Protein shake that you like or at least can tolerate, use that as the basis for your diet while on full liquids. That should get you the 60-80 gm protein you need per day. You can add the other things you listed if you have room in your tummy. The answer to your How much is a serving of... can be found on the container of that food. And the only reason to be concerned with what that says is so you can calculate how much protein / carbs / sugar you get from consuming it. Example: If something says a serving is 1/2 cup, but you only eat 1/4 cup, then you count 1/2 the amoint of each nutrient listed on the label.
  20. For those having trouble getting enough Protein, check this out: http://www.protica.com/Products/ProteinCandy.htm I have one of the Protein Twist things in my fridge; haven't tried it yet but it says it's watermelon flavor. Says 15 gm protein, and it's very small - 2 teaspoons, max. Fortunately I found a shake I like - Premier Protein, chocolate - and I still like it after surgery. And I've found I can drink an entire 11 oz serving as long as I don't rush. So I drink it over 20-30 minutes, and that does fine. I like them really really cold, so when it gets about time to have one I shake it well and put it in the freezer for 25 minutes (I use a timer, cause otherwise I'd forget and it would freeze solid). When I get it out I shake it again and voila! I like that it has little ice crystals in it. Hope that helps!
  21. Alex: Today for the first time I'm hearing a "bloop" sound, as if an IM had just landed... But I looked up Messages and there is nothing new posted there. Any idea what the noise is? I like the new look of the web site, and I have a couple of observations/requests: >> The banner headline takes up quite a bit of real estate on my screen. Would it be possible to mae it narrower? >> I keep getting into the Band discussions by mistake. IMHO it would be great if each user could determine which types of surgery to see / not see.

    Calling All Sixties!

SassyTink: You said: My concern is the leaking. If you follow the instructions given by the Dr. what are the chances of a leak? Once the six months after the surgery has past is there any chance that a staple will not hold? This is my only concern. The rest of my life I don't want to worry about every twinge and having to worry that a staple was not holding. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The staples are there to hold until the remaining stomach heals. That usually starts within days of the surgery, and is complete within 6-8 weeks. Once you're beyond that point, the chance of a leak is VERY small. After that the staples are just serving as reinforcement. Jean Z, RN
