    The regain posts

Wow this thread went south in a hurry! Yikes.
  2. Know that your body will find its new point. You won’t keep losing forever and will likely regain 5-10 lbs from the bottom. That’s a typical pattern. I’m your height and I bottomed out and regained about 7. I maintain comfortably at about 135 with lots of muscle. You’re not too thin you just aren’t used to being normal weight. But yes if you do want to stop add some nutrient dense high calorie food. Dairy, nuts, avocado.... that kind of thing.

    Anyone try bananas? When?

As I said, depends on your plan. And yes I also said I save them for a treat before a 6+ mile run. I eat them half green. That said, whether they are “good” or “bad” depends on your plan. They are high in the glycemic index scale and have a lot of sugar (close to 30g) for only about 4g of fiber. And nowhere near the antioxidant berries have and they’re even over rated for potassium (beans pack a way better bang for your buck). My point is to check YOUR plan. Mine didn’t include them for a while.
  4. Most surgeons say 6-12 months once you reach goal. Basically they want your weight to stabilize and stay the same for 6-12 months. I had my surgery at almost exactly 6 months after hitting goal, which was 18 months after sleeve surgery.

    Anyone try bananas? When?

When is it allowed on YOUR plan? That’s the best place to look. You trusted your surgeon to cut you open, trust your surgeons diet advice. They weren’t on my plan for six months because they are a high glycemic index fruit (ie lots of sugar). Even now I save them for before a 6+ mile run. They are a treat not a staple for me.

    The regain posts

Plenty of us who eat that way aren’t retainers either though. It’s not a road that’s doomed to fail. I think as we study and learn more we will be able to tell by your genes who will do well on what diet. But we are still in the dark ages. There isn’t any one size fits all. I did the high carb low fat diets in the 90’s and those always ended in me falling off the wagon and regaining. I was quite strict on the low carb train till I got to goal. I’m still pretty low carb but I don’t stress about them a bit here and there. I’m five year out and it works just great for me. I know your plan is working for you (so far). Can’t we just all realize that there is no one size fits all answer? I know you’re certain your plan will be the answer for you. And time will tell, but since I think a big part of this is mental, I think it will. But you make it sound like being a “carb nazi” means you’re doomed to fail. I didn’t.  It’s not a stop gap measure for me.  It’s a lifestyle change and it works just fine.
  7. Matt hit the nail... seasoning mixes. I like taco or chili mix (check the sugar content). For dessert I put a spoonful or SF pudding mix into it... try the cheesecake flavor! YUM

    PPIs mandatory?

My doc does them for a month for everyone. I stayed on an extra month so two total bc acid gave me a gnawing hungry type of feeling. Stopped easily at that point and have never had any issues since

    Cheez its, my little snack

It’s all good. My cheezits aren’t your cheezits. Most of what I say on here is always aimed at the silent majority who read but don’t post. I like to open their eyes to alternate views and ways to see things and adjust their lives. I can’t have cheezits in the House. Doesn’t make me less loving. And someone out there may really feel they NEED to get their partner cheezits to show they care and I’m saying they don’t. It’s not aimed at you per se. Yup my hubby works 10 hour days in a power plant at a physically demanding job. So I get it.

    Cheez its, my little snack

I’ve read that concept and it seems solid. And I would even go a step further and say you can be moderate on some things (I can have a half a cookie or a bit of cake or ice cream) and an abstainer on others (my cheezits). It’s more of that you do you... but it’s always good to know all the issues because what you need might change at different points

    Cheez its, my little snack

And let me just throw this out there.... stay vigilant. In the first year I could totally have eaten a small amount of cheezits and not have them be a slider and still lose. But things change. They may not for you, but be aware that they might. Or whatever YOUR cheezits are. Everyone’s are different. When you’re five years out you may have a different perspective.

    Cheez its, my little snack

Exactly. Everyone needs to do what works for them. Cheezits are pretty much the only thing I’m that way about. And that IS the way to solve the problem for me. I’m not a Nazi either. Sheesh people keep your judgements to yourself. I’m not telling anyone what works for them only what works for me. Yet you throw around generalizations about this or that not solving the problem or not showing love. Seriously. You do you if it works. But I know for a FACT that keeping cheezits out of my house works for me. I’m five years out and managing and maintaining wonderfully.

    Better Choices

See to each his own I can’t stand the Protein pasta.... BUT I love the banza chickpea Pasta and the Explore Asian edamame pasta (at Costco). But I never liked Premier Protein either. Love the whips Greek yogurt too though that’s a big winner!  And the Flapjacked  Mighty Muffins, but I didn’t add those in till I was at goal bc the carb count is way high. Kirkland the Costco brand makes a protein bar that’s even better than the quest bars!

    Cheez its, my little snack

I feed my family as an act of love too. Heck, my husband leaves for work at 5:30 am and I get up every single morning and make him breakfast before he goes. I have for over 20 years every single morning. Pack him a lunch and then cook dinner in the evening. My kids too. Part of that love is cooking and preparing healthy things for them. And part of his love to me is not caring if I keep cheezits out of the house. I get them treats on occasion. Fig newtons are a favorite and they have a whole wheat version. And if they want a junk treat once in a while it’s Doritos or Cheetos, just not cheezits. I don’t want them in the house. My family is healthier without them too so it’s love all the way around. Choices. Sorry ash you just said you had to but then for him so I was just exploring that statement.

    Rice

Rice hurts my stomach. I have a sleeve and am five years out.

    Kids and food

Regardless of genetics (my husband is genetically a beanpole so who knows where my kids will end up) no Kid NEEDS the crap that is the Standard American Diet (SAD). My whole family changed when I had surgery. Sure my 15 year old still goes to In and Out with his buddies and orders pizza once in a while. Heck I even buy him Cheetos now and then. But none of that is a daily thing anymore. Nothing is forbidden, I just don’t buy it it’s not in the House. They eat what I eat plus some whole grains and fruits and pasta and whatnot. Why not? And as for caring with food... it can be done, but it’s a balance. Perfect example... when my little sister was about five she pulled on the cord of an iron and brought it down on her forehead, needed some stitches. After the hospital trip Mom said “let’s go get some ice cream to make it feel better.” Well we did. Guess what? My sister looked at the cone and had a weird look on her face. She raised the ice cream to her forehead and smashed it onto her newly stitched up cut. Well, how else would it make it feel better? That’s rational! BTW that sister probably weighs more than 300lbs right now. Genetics? Maybe. Probably even. But not completely.

    Clothing purge

Just wait till she starts “borrowing” your clothes. I’m forever texting my daughter at college asking if she’s seen this or that item of mine. Eyeroll!

    Post Op Questions!

Absolutely, rude indeed. But know that your words may have an impact far beyond what we will ever know or imagine. Plenty of lurkers and others who read and absorb.

    Cheez its, my little snack

Yes. But for our family it was important to me to yeah my kids healthier a healthier lifestyle. My husband can certainly make his own choices and sometimes he chooses crap and other times he doesn’t, but I don’t chose to cook crap anymore.  I don’t think that keeping it in my house is necessary.  I think structuring my life for success is as valid and useful a choice as “facing and conquering.”   I’m just saying no one needs cheezits. Not even my fifteen year old 6’3” athlete of a son. He can eat healthier options.  He can also chose cheezits.  But he doesn’t NEED them.  Just like some don’t allow video games, I don’t allow cheezits in my House.  I don’t judge those who do, but I don’t think I need to conquer anything.  Keeping them out of my house is just as valid a choice. There is no one path to long term success.  Keeping cheezits out of my house has kept me at goal for five years and I have no reason to believ it won’t continue.

    Cheez its, my little snack

And that’s a fair CHOICE For you to make. You just said you HAVE to and that’s definitely an overstatement. If you chose to do so, more power to you!

    Cheez its, my little snack

Meh... you don’t HAVE to. My husband has learned to do without some things I can’t have in the house. So have my teenagers. Better for their health anyhow. If they NEED them they can get them outside the house on rare occasions.
