    Sushi...

Sashimi is my go to sushi food as well but I don't think I would have or could started there. I can do some rolls but I have to specify cut small and then put a lot of soy sauce on it. Maybe if you can, start with some cooked sushi rolls if that's your concern. Really be careful and chew well. It's great to go with friends (if you're comfortable with the risk of problems around them), then you can try a few different rolls, types without committing your lunch hour to one thing you may not like.

Question about after you get banded

I have stairs in my home and there were no restrictions. Need to confirm with surgeon. As someone else said, you're barely eating anything that soon after surgery. It too a lot of effort, I got dizzy and lightheaded climbing my measly 14 stairs. That's a safety concern!

    Fill issues?

Sounds like your port may have flipped from what I've read from others who have posted similar issues. Not sure how that's detected - X-ray, or what but I think the only fix is surgery. Hope is was more of a nurse issue and not a flipped port.

    Smoking and alcohol

Non smoker here so no answer for that question. Alcohol - you will weigh less and eat a lot less... Therefore for most of us our tolerance goes way way down. I used to be able to drink half a bottle of wine now a glass gets me buzzed. My vodka drinks have a lot more Water in them than before. Beer is difficult due to the carbonation but half a beer gets to me quickly. As the other poster said - be careful about over indulging. Too intoxicated to where you need/want to throw up is a bad thing. Just take it slow. Oh and the more you drink, the more you'll want to eat so that messes the weight loss efforts too in addition to all the empty calories.
  5. In the end, to lose weight you need to consume less calories than you need. If I behave the weight practically falls off, when I give in to eat bad food I do stall out. Sometimes there's a loss on the scale and sometimes there's a gain. You will feel better the healthier you eat. Greasy fried foods make me sick (tastes yummy but I feel terrible once they go down). If you don't eat enough protein, you might lose a lot of your hair. Once you get in the groove, you'll learn that food really is just fuel for your body. Certain fuel makes you feel better and others may make you feel worse. Just think about your health though. The right foods will hep you stay satisfied longer too helping you to eat less. Carbs, at least for me, makes me want to eat more.

    Overreacting? I want water!

Oh and I did have wls due to infertility concerns. Both my surgeon was well aware and my ob/gyn. All my tests for fertility came back normal so my doc said that I needed to lose weight and reduce stress. There's a forum on here for pregnant people . Many others have done the same.

    Overreacting? I want water!

I completely understand where you're coming from. I had a cyst removed recently that required me to be fully knocked out. I only researched to make sure my doc was a good doc. You already had that knowledge of yours. Many of us have paid several hundreds to thousands of dollars to get this done. With that kind of money on the line and our health at stake, most of us did out research for this life changing surgery. If suggest to try to stick this out as it sounds like it could be beneficial for you. Look at the links people posted. Try your best to limit your water intake during meals and keep in mind that if you drink you're reducing it's effectiveness. If you need a drink, go ahead and drink. Hopefully you're not going to be like some people that get sick when they drink. If I'm at a nice restaurant, I'll still enjoy wine with my meal. I'm just hungry in two hours. Lol

    my story...and I need someone's help!

So in the next four weeks your really need to watch what you eat (yeah I know that's a duh statement). Check out myfitnesspal.com. You can log all the food and liquid you consume. My username is the same here as it is there. Look me up and add me as a friend. There are a lot of other myfitnesspal threads on this site so you can have more friends helping to keep your food accountable. You can also keep track of your weight there. So, here's my suggestions for where to start... This is based of my surgeons guide and may/may not fit your or other surgeons rules. Protein, protein, protein. Minimize/eliminate drinking during meals. Drink tons of Water all other times. Breakfast - I have an egg omlette thingy every morning (look up egg muffin tin meals for recipes - I just add bacon and cheese) lunch - usually simple grilled chicken and veggie/fruit. Afternoon snack - yogurt or cheese dinner - grilled steak or chicken with a veggie I'm boring and don't vary my meals much at all. I try to keep my calories between 800-1000 calories / day but I have a good fill and I'm still trying to lose. Good luck!! You got this

    Overreacting? I want water!

Disclaimer : this is from my doc for my surgery (had lap band), suggest to talk to your doc to see the allowances From what I was told, considering this is weight loss surgery you want to stay fuller as long as possible. Water will wash/push food through a lot sooner, this making you want to eat more, don't feel when full, eat more often etc. that was the rationale that I was told to not drink for about 30-60 mins after eating. They originally said an hour but I was having a hard time drinking my daily allotment of water. I 'can' drink while eating without any complications other than feeling hungry sooner. Again I had the band and this is my surgeons rules. I went through buyers remorse at the beginning but I'm glad I did it overall. 6 months banded.

4 weeks out, did you get to lift?

I have the band but it was 6 weeks till I had my clearance. Might be due to the port that's stitched to my abdominal wall. Be careful. Even though you feel like you can do it, you did just have major surgery. Is suggest to call your doc.

Feeling guilty for living in Florida...

We have had family in town this week and have really enjoyed eating on the patio every night. I wish the temp would stay this way through the summer. It's been beautiful

    Conference food?

GF should hopefully get you mostly there. Maybe if you like fish state you're pescaterian. My work tends to 'cater' sandwiches. I can't do deli meats so I bring my food. To be safe, if suggest the shakes as the other person else commented.

    Ibuprofen

Yep definitely call your doctor and follow their advice My surgeon only states that care should be taken with regards to NSAIDs. They are not off limits but I need to be careful. I get bad migraines and Tylenol doesn't do anything. I take NSAIDs for my headaches/migraines. Again follow your doctor.

    venting once again

Been there too. It is frustrating that you had the surgery and you want satiety now. Completely understand. It is better when they go slower as it's slowly teaching you how to eat too. I can still eat bread even at 6.4ccs but it's smaller nibbles and I savor the bite. Bread is not the tell all indicator if you're green or not. I think I'm a smidge below being actually green and I'm debating about another fill. I still have hunger pains more often than I had hoped but I'm also getting stuck a smidge more than I should. I just know I need to eat slower and chew more.
