  1. I had a gastric sleeve in November 2014. I lost 96 lbs in 6 months. I went back to school and found myself slowly eating too much again. I never reached my goal weight and have actually gained 14 lbs in the last 6 months. I eat healthy foods and exercise 5 days a week and still can't seem to lose again. Have I just stretched my stomach out too much for my sleeve to be the weight-loss tool it was supposed to be? After 9 months of eating larger meals than I should have, is it too late to naturally reduce my stomach size by eating smaller meals? I never had a nutritionist or any real direction from my surgeon, so I have always felt unsure of how I'm doing with eating. Clearly not very well. Any info is appreciated.

    Are you tracking your food?

Were you given a Protein target? Are you reaching your Protein target every day?

Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Water a day?

Are you avoiding starches, added sugar, and fried foods?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements?

I would definitely recommend that you find a NUT who works with weight loss surgery patients to talk about your goals.

  2. Finally got my sleeved done by Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez in Tijuana, MX. People get the misconception about having surgery across the borders, I did too at some point. However, after many research, calling the international board, checking on certificates and licensure. I know they were legit and would be my doctors. Bedside manners was awesome. They educated me and mom on everything. They answered all of my questions. I was in surgery for about am 1hr the most because he said, I had a big stomach, so instead of the 5 incision, I got 6. There small too. I didn't need any drain. It went well. I thank God first and may God bless

  3. What an awesome choice for you to make so young. I bet you can't wait to be able to put any obesity related health risks away so you can keep up with your kiddos. Keep us updated on your progress. We on the waiting bench look forward to reading y'all's wonderful progress reports. :)

    April

    Thanks :)

  4. I'm right there with you. The MINUTE I get our refund I am scheduling my surgery and waiting on all of our documents so that I can make sure it's enough is killing me. I keep reminding myself I've been waiting a year...a few more weeks is not going to kill me but I'm just so ready. Good luck to you!

I know what you mean. I've been waiting so long too, so these next few weeks won't hurt me either. I'm just so exicted and can't wait. Good luck to you as well. :)

  5. Oh no I was self pay too... I decided to do it and it only took a month to get sleeved. There were some prior requirements but I appreciated them because it was to make sure I was healthy enough for surgery. It was not nearly as extensive as insurance patients. I loved my experience at Wellington Regional and Dr. Wizman is awesome. His personality is amazing and after a lot of research he is one of the best surgeons in South Florida and in my opinion maybe even in the country. The staff is very knowledgeable and he is truly an amazing surgeon. I'm so happy I went with him. Me and my sleeve are still getting to know each other and I also have had several prior stomach and gastric surgeries for other health issues. I'm 5 weeks post op today.

Ok, may look into him again. May I ask, how much does he charge being self pay? Don't worry though, you'll get better in no time. Your body is still adjusting to change. In due time, you'll start to feel great. I really wish you successful, speedy recovery.

  6. NO I don't regret anything that happened..Some of it was an eye opener but I am much more healthier then I was before this surgery...I considered myself the walking dead and a burden on my family..It has been a slow recovery but they are having trouble keeping up with me now....It will be a hoot to see what they do when I totally recover...lol

I am glad I did it...............

Ok, I'm so happy you remind optimistic about the procedures even though you had complications. Its stories like yours that gives me hope and strength to continue even when I have doubts. Thanks and speedy, successfully recovery.

  7. I have been told that up to 6 months it is a possibility....mine I was sleeved on Nov. 6th 2012 and on Nov.12th I was rushed to the hospital with a major leak leak that went septic....After I was rushed into surgery I was put into an induced coma and was there for 19 days..After that 13 surgeries followed and rehab..Which included me learning to walk again, talk again, eat again, write again and just about every thing else...I lost my singing voice and I have a numbness in my hand as a result of what I went through...

I got a category 5 bed sore and had to have medical attention for that up until a couple months ago..i now face pneumonia..and dislocated 3 ribs due to 5 months in bed in the hospital...

I didn't eat for 5 1/2 months and the complications are still rearing their ugly heads...I face a new surgery soon, as now I am having trouble with my insides ( girl parts )..It never ends.....

Over view of what I have been dealing with......Down 182 lbs though..That's the good news!!!!!!

Congrats on the lost. Sorry for your problems. Do you regret the surgery? After reading so many complications, I'm seriously having doubts. I'm scared.

  8. i have an appt with the doctor next monday at 2:45. not sure if he's gonna pull the tube out, or send me for an upper gi to see if the leak is gone first. i've had the tube for almost three weeks, so technically 3 more weeks. hope it heals faster than that since they did that glue thing 5 weeks ago. can't wait to drink water! i'm so craving iced tea!

Hi, I'm happy you are doing a bit better. Pls fill us in on your recovery.

  9. Jacksonville here. Go Gators!

Essence, my advice to you is to be positive. I feel the procedure (11/18) was 10 times easier than I expected. I spent 1 night in the hospital and had 1 dose of pain medication since I went home. I have more energy and was shopping 4 days after surgery, but being careful. One month post op, I stay out shopping 4-5 hours, when before surgery I barely would leave my house. I feel wonderful.

I had a little episode this week from not chewing long enough, and eating faster than I should. I strongly caution you to follow the guidelines of your doctor and don't be adventurous, it will bite you, LOL!!

Merry Christmas all, and good luck Essence!

    Go Noles!! hehehehe :)

Hi, thanks and congrats to you. I will take that advice into consideration. I hope I am like you when I have my procedure. :) Merry Christmas and a Healthy Happy New Year. I can't wait!

  10. I have family that lives in Delray it only takes me 15 min to get there. I had my surgery done in Wellington by Dr. Wizman. How are you 10 months out? I get sick easily still and I'm not eating or drinking enough. I can't or I get sick. I feel like I'll never be normal again. :(

Oh no, don't say that... :( I know you'll get better, you just have to believe that. I actually haven't been sleeved yet, paying out the pocket so I had to save money. I'm getting sleeved hopefully by the end of Feb or beginning of March 2014. Hey, I thought about going to Dr. Wiseman at first, but even being self pay, I heard he makes the patient go through a 6 months prep like the insurance patients. I decided to go elsewhere, I'm not waiting to go through all the classes and stuff. That's insurance requirements for those patients. I don't know why he wants self-pay to do that too. But how was he? How was your overall experience.

  11. This is a very personal decision and one I did not make lightly. In fact, the morning of my procedure I almost backed out because I was so nervous about possible complications. I was very fortunate...I have had absolutely no problems from surgery and am now 7 months out and down 76 pounds. It was the BEST decision I have ever made. I was a borderline diabetic, with joint issues, sleep apnea and borderline high blood pressure. Now I no longer need my cpap equipment because my sleep apnea has disappeared, sugar and bp are back to normal and my joints are a lot happier. This is the first time I have lost weight and see light at the end of the tunnel to be able to keep it off. If you should decide to do this, make sure your mind is set, you follow your doctor's directions exactly (even if others are posting that they have done things and had no problems) and learn to eat as they suggest and get your exercise in. The benefits are well worth it...

It is stories like this that makes me feel complete about doing my procedure. Congrats on your success to a healthier you. :)
