    Bypass vs sleeve?

If you suffer from acid reflux then bypass is the best option. I know this because when I originally was going to have surgery I wanted the sleeve and was preparing for the sleeve but when I met with my gastric doctor he told me to have the bypass because of GERDS. I listened and I've had great success and even though I got Reactive Hypoglycemia which only 2% of gastric bypass patients get it I would do it all over again in minute. Reactive Hypoglycemia is different then regular Hypoglycemia and is really a very low risk of getting it. Good luck in your decision and best to you on your journey to a healthier you. P.S. I hope I haven't scared you with what I disclosed to you and if it worries you discuss it with your surgeon or nutritionist.
  2. First don't take any laxative without asking your surgeon first. Second you are only taking in liquids so like they told you don't worry about having a bowel movement it will happen. If you are feeling discomfort from not going then you should talk to the surgeon's office right away and they will advise you of what to do. Just relax and remember you just had major surgery and your body is adjusting. It takes time. Feel good and good luck on your journey to a healthier you.

    Bandage Allergy?

Hi, I can only use paper tape or cloth bandages. I had no problem with the steri strips they used to close my incisions. Maybe your surgeon could use glue to close your incisions. Ask them about this and see what they say or ask if they could give you some steri strips and you could test them out before surgery. Good luck with your surgery and your journey to a healthier you.

    Bodies Chemical Changes

You know Brian your surgeon or nutritionist should give you an answer to this question. I do know that if you don't get enough Protein daily that will effect hair loss or hair thinning. I have been taking chewable Biotin since I could take Vitamins after surgery. You get them from Twinlabs and they are called Biotin Dots. They reason you take vitamins and supplements is because we don't absorb the nutrients from our food because it goes through us quickly. I'm sure you know that you must take them permanently to stay healthy. Well that's all I know. I don't know if this helps or not but again ask the experts who deal with this everyday. Take care.
  5. Call your nutritionist and ask what Protein drinks you are allowed before surgery. Each surgeon's office and nutritionist office has different opinions of what to use around the country. When it comes to protein bars the only ones my nutritionist allows is Pure Protein Bars or Quest Bars. Ask your nutritionist about Premier Protein Drinks that you can get at costco, Walmart or Sam's Club if those meet their requirements. Do not not eat that's the worse thing you can do. Start acting like you already had the surgery and drink your Water, get in all your protein, eat slowly, eliminate all sugars except natural ones you get in fruit. Cut down on carbs. If you must have something sweet have sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding or sugar free popsicles. These are just a few suggestions. Most important is to get a food plan from the nutritionist. Good luck in your journey to a healthier you.

    What are you drinking?

I use crystal light when I want a change from regular Water. Ask you surgeon if having sugar free popsicles or sugar free Jello would count towards your liquid intake. unjury chicken Soup made with water is something a used to do for getting in liquids and Protein at the same time. 20g of protein per serving. These are just a couple of suggestions. Take care.
  7. Hi, First question I have is are you eating all of your Protein required? It's so essential for this problem and for healing properly. Second you might want to start taking Biotin chewables from Twinlabs. I swear by it for helping and it also helps with nails too. You can also get Biotin in shampoo if you want for additional help. It will come back in several months after your body has recouped from the surgery. Good luck and have great success with your weight loss surgery.

    Depression 2 Months Out

Call your surgeon immediately! It could be factored to several things but you want to take care of this right away. This is not normal at all. Good luck and take care of yourself.

    Silly question lol

Caffeine is bad! Talk to your nutritionist about this and they will explain why you should not have it.

12 DAYS POST OP NEED HELP

Tell your surgeon that you are not getting in your Protein because that could delay healing. May I suggest unjury chicken soup. It packs 20g of protein per serving. I used it a lot at the beginning. Mixing Isopure with Water and ice will help get in protein. It might take time to get used to it or to experiment with what flavor you like. Are you getting in your water because if you don't you will dehydrate and that would mean a trip to the ER for IV fluids. Protein is essential, water is essential and your Vitamins. Without these you will not heal and later your hair will probably fall out more from the lack of these things. Again talk to your surgeon or nutritionist immediately and do pass go. Good luck in figuring this out.

    Sugar Free Popsicles

I eat Bomb Pop Popsicles made with Splenda. I really like them.
  12. My gut feeling is yes you should say something and tell them how you overcame it and that you've had counseling for the past few years. Part of the process is having a psyc. evaluation and they from talking with you will find out if you are ready for this surgery and understand that you have to work at making this work. That the surgery is not a magic bullet and will fix everything, that it is a tool to help you. Just take the process one step at a time. I think you will be fine. Good luck.

    I dont know skinny

Welcome to the beginning of a new wonderful journey. I am one year out from surgery and I no longer have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, problems holding my bladder. I only have three meds left and those are for depression and I'm slowly going down on those too. I feel great and I've never been in shape like this before. I think I know weigh what I weighed in Jr. High. I was also overweight or obese until now. I have fibromyalgia, osteo arthritis, stenosis of the spine, and RSD. All have improved due to the surgery. I now have an easier time coping with them. You IMO will be very pleased with yourself as you get into your journey. Good luck with your surgery and welcome to a healthier life.
  14. The first day in the hospital just went so quickly. I'm a little foggy about that day to be honest because of the first 24 hrs of pain meds they give you. As soon as I was allowed to get out of bed I did and I walked around the hospital floor several times each day I was in the hospital. I went to the bathroom myself without having someone help me. I didn't shower though until I got home with anti bacterial soap for the duration until my incisions closed all the way and the steri strips fell off. I would say the first month maybe I did this just to be safe. I say the first stages went easy for me. I drank my Water, had sugar free popsicles, unjury chicken Soup to be able to get Protein in and my Protein shakes that I made. When I could eat pureed fruits, veggies and meats I was allowed to use baby food also I used baby oatmeal. Check with your nutritionist if this is okay or just puree your own. Campbell's creamed Soups are good the low fat ones but they have to be strained and pureed for you to ingest. For protein shakes I used and still do Jay Robb whey Protein. I use PB2 Peanut Butter powder or PB2 chocolate peanut butter powder to add flavor and some extra protein. Ask your nutritionist if this is okay to use in the early stages. I also use Torani Sugar Free Syrups in my shakes to add flavors. They come in a multitude of different flavors. Ask your nutritionist if these are okay to use in the early stages. These are just a few thoughts I have and you can go with them or not. Best of luck to you on your new journey to a healthier life. P.S. Unjury has a sample pack of their products that is great and you can get a sample pack from Jay Robb too.
  15. Hi, Well may I suggest Egg White Protein Powder from Jay Robb. It packs in 25g of protein in each scoop. I suggest Quest Bars that have 20 or 21 grams of protein in each bar but check with your nutritionist if it's okay for you to have them at this stage. Almond milk is an alternative to using regular milk but get the sugar free and again check with your nutritionist about using this. Soy milk again is an alternative to using regular milk but check with your nutritionist about using it. To add a little interest in your shakes you could use sugar free Torani Syrups that come in a multitude of flavors. You could use PB2 in your shakes. It adds some additional protein and it's yummy. It comes in Peanut Butter powder or in chocolate peanut butter powder. You find at Target, Walmart, grocery stores. These are just a few suggestions. Good luck and best wishes on your journey to a healthier you.

    Bloody stool

It would be you are working to hard to express your bowels. It could be you developed fishers. Which are small tears in the rectum. It could be hemroids. I would call your doctor and have it checked just to make sure that it's nothing serious.

    Need positive support

I am as of today one year out and want to tell you it does get easier. There are meds to help with the nausea and you should ask your surgeon if you can have them. I feel that you aren't taking in the necessary nutrition and Water that you need to heal inside with. If you don't you won't heal as well and if you aren't drinking your water you will dehydrate and wined up in the hospital to get IV fluids. These are things you should tell your surgeon about immediately so they can help you. I struggled with things in the beginning but as the time passed things got better. I got healthier. The best of luck to you and give your surgeon a call tomorrow and see what they say about how you are feeling and what they can do for you until your appointment.
  20. I want to wish a healthy and a happy new year to all that celebrate. May the new year bring you all good things. L'Shana Tovah!

    Meds.

The day after surgery I started taking my pills whole one at a time with Water. Vitamins and supplements started two weeks after surgery. Most of your vitamins and supplements will be chewable and the ones that aren't you just take. If you are on any time released meds you need them changed because bypass patients can not absorb them correctly. By the way I'm off my diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure, migraine and a few others. Good luck and take care.

    Bowel Habits

Are you taking prescribed or over the counter acid reducing meds? If you aren't you should be for the first two to three months after surgery. This goes for bypass and sleeve patients. I'm not sure if this applies to lapband patients. Talk to your surgeon right away about this and let them know how you are feeling. Take care and much success to you on your journey to better health.
  24. Hi I was always overweight or obese from childhood on. Yes I lost weight a couple of times but always put it back on and then some. I never considered bypass surgery until last year when as they say a light bulb went off in my head that I wanted to get healthier then I was. I lost my father when he was 56, my brother when he was 43 and last my mom and she was 83. They were all overweight. For my father and brother that contributed to their dying so young. I didn't want that for me. I think that for your husband you need him to know how much you love him and respect his wishes first. I agree with everyone about either getting him on here or to a bariatric meeting if all possible. Do things about this in small dosages or you might not get through to him. Has he had any health issues beside sleep apnea? Has his doctor warned him about his health? I wouldn't if I were you hound him about starting a family because he probably already feelings pressure about that. That pressure makes for bad feelings towards each other. You from what you said have ill feelings already. He has to take small steps towards this and small steps are better then no steps at all. Love him and support him as much as you can and then some. Go slow and don't shove this at him for he will back off even more and never consider it at all. No one can do this for him but him. Take care of yourself and him.
  25. Hi Pik, I'm a year out and I can eat ground beef and tenderized skirt steaks. I use ground white meat turkey or ground white meat chicken a lot of times instead of ground beef. Even though I'm a year out I still have problems time to time even with foods that I haven't had a problem with before. I think that sometimes our bodies just want to be difficult. I would try beef again if I were you in a couple of months and see what happens then or even just one month from now. On to another subject and that is how you are feeling? Have things calmed down for you? Take care.
