Same here.. Want to start jogging again. I did a full marathon 10 years ago ..I completed it. And very proud f my metal.. However, 3 to 5 miles will do for me ..I love joining races.. You meet people, it motivates u, and it keep u accountable with your training sessions.

  5. Getting ready to slay some calories on the treadmill!!

  6. I am sorry to hear that things have been challenging for you. I would focus more on healing and less on what the scale says, for right now. Do not get discouraged! Remember, this isn't a race and there is no finish line. Some weeks I only lose one pound. Some weeks I lose three or four. I have never let that discourage me. My body fat percentage has dropped an average of 1.2% a month, to me that is more of a victory than that silly number on the scale. Best wishes on your recovery!!

Need help to start losing again

Hi, I am only 10 weeks post-op, but from what I understand there is no finish line. Everyday will challenge you. I use a food scale and weight out my portions of food for the day. I do not eat anything with more that 12grams of sugar per serving, even though I know I can tolerate more than that. I work out 6 days a week. (a mix of weights and cardio) I hired a personal trainer. I am training for two 5K races. I joined the Obesity Action Coalition. I have surrounded myself with friends and family that support my new lifestyle. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on, that I think will help me on this new journey. I talk to my dietician weekly, and I go to all of my follow up appointments. I joined two support groups. I say daily affirmations to myself when I wake up. I TRY to eat 100 grams of Protein a day. I know 10 weeks is nothing compared to the rest of my life, but so far these are the things that I have done and continue to do to make each day successful. Hope this helps!!

    Serious constipation and laxatives

I went through that a few weeks ago, when I wasn't drinking enough Water and eating enough food. To get a movement going, I used a saline douche. Becareful that you don't develop a bowel obstruction. The best advice I can give you: Talk to your doctor.

    how much water daily?

Hi, I was told 64oz. a day. I didn't meet that goal everyday, but try as hard as you can to make it. You do not want to get dehydrated. Good Luck!!!

    Lots of questions! Lol

Hi, I am from Upper Michigan. I have Blue Cross & Blue Shield, it took 2 letters from my doctor before they pre-approved me.

What 3 things do u wish u had been told?

Hi, 1. Constipation and constant gas. 2. Be more proactive. (All the info and visits I have had at my bariatric clinic have been great, but at the end of the day it's my journey, and it's up to me to educated myself, explore this new world I am living in, and make the right choices.) 3. Nature's Best Isopure. I was so burnt out on Protein shakes at week 5, that I had to pinch my nose to drink them. No one at the clinic told me about Isopure, again, being more proactive. Now, I drink a bottle a day, and I get 40 of my 100 grams of protein. They have a great variety of flavors and most of them taste great. They are a bit pricey, but when I think about how much money I use to spend on fast food and eating out, they are worth every penny.
  18. Hi, I recommend trying Nature's best Isopure. They have a variety of flavors to choose from. I buy mine at GNC. It has 40 grams of Protein. I am 13 weeks post-op and I still drink one bottle a day. If she is as burnt out on Protein shakes as I was, then she should like the Isopure.

    The dreaded STALL...

HI Dyan, I admit it has been fun watching the pounds melt off every week. I have averaged 5 pounds a week. I am sure by now my "honeymoon" period is over. I haven't had a stall yet, so we will see how I feel when I hit one, but until then I am going to start focusing on my decreasing my body fat percentage. If I start gaining weight, but and decreasing my body fat percentage, then I can live with that. I am also going to stop weighing myself every week. (I have been a bit obsessed with that.) Best of luck to you!!

    Why did you choose bypass?

I discussed all my options with my surgeon and we both decided that bypass was the right one for me. I needed the more "permanent" surgery. I can tolerated some sugar, but cannot tolerate any high fat foods. I don't plan on testing my tolerances for either, and I am trying to eat clean and lead a healthier life. I remind myself everyday that they operated on my body not my mind. Best of luck to you!!

    Exercise

I started walking the day I got home from the hospital, one hour a day, 6 days a week. When the weather turned foul, I walked at a local big chain store. After 10 weeks I was cleared to start lifting weights. I joined a gym, hired a trainer, and haven't looked back. Best of luck to you!
  23. Hi, Come on Thursday!!! You must be feeling pretty excited! I applaud you for staying on track with your pre-op diet. I struggled with that. I still get the occasional cravings for a whole pizza, a couple 2 liters of pop, and some chinese buffet action. Mentally I still feel about the same but here's the difference for me now: I look at those foods and think to myself, if i eat or drink any bit of them, there are repercussions, i.e. dumping syndrome, dysphagia, etc. Worse yet, the fact that I may very well do harm to my new inner workings. That is enough for me to pass and continue on eating my stage 2 and stage 3 foods. I recommend talking to your psychologist post-op and have him/her recommend some books to read that deal with handling your emotions, cravings, etc. I am only about 3 months post-op but it is my opinion that being and staying sharp mentally is the biggest key to success with having WLS. Best of luck on your new adventure!!!
