monola got a reaction from tebowfan in What I have lost and what I have gained
Good Luck to everyone with upcoming surgeries. The waiting for it is the worst part but after the surgery a new life marches on. I have two bits of advice. First follow your doctors plan unless he is a quack and says stuff like, " Eat lots of raw pork and smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day." Second, this is your individual journey. I can tell you I would get upset reading posts of people saying stuff like, "oh, I am 2 months out and I have only lost 69 pounds." They'd act like this wasn't good enough and here I am struggling to drop 30. It was like a knife in the heart. So I made a decision and stayed away from the boards until I got confident in my own journey. I am all for people losing 69 pounds in 2 months but I wish they would state it positive like, 'I can't believe I have lost 69 pounds!" I be , "You GO Girl!!!" So if read the post from people after don't let it chip away at you because its your Odyssey not anyone else. Stay away from those posts and keep positive in every ounce that you shed. Once again I will be thinking of you on May 6 and 7th.

I don't drink alcohol because I partied enough for everyone when I was young lol. I do drink coffee though at least three a day. Once in a while now I will have a diet soda but I shake it up to make it kind of flat. I love Water though its a good thing.

I'm only 3 weeks post op, but I have noticed major differences in my life.
    I've already lost 25 lbs.
my knees are not in constant pain any longer
My back isn't in pain anymore
And I no longer sweat like a pig when I'm cleaning my house.
Those few things alone, have made the surgery worth having!

Hey Bridget, don't worry you will be able to eat and enjoy food again just with a new perspective. I have found that everyone is different especially on this board. I had RNY Dec 9th, I am down 70 pounds. For me, my surgeon was so good that I thought they hadn't done anything. No pain or nausea. It could have been outpatient for me. In fact, I kept calling the doctor's office to make sure he operated on me. I don't throw up, get the foamies, diarrhea,or Constipation. In 5 months, only once have I eaten too much and that extra bite made me feel what people here discuss feeling. That said, I have and can eat. One really bad week, I ate 6 pieces if pizza with no problem. It basically boils down to this surgery is a tool. I have learned to portion my food, eat at certain times and relieve stress by walking instead of food. Also the worst of it for me is that I can eat fried fatty foods and sugar with no problems. These are not good things to be able to do but I have been told by the surgeon that most people can tolerate it and it's up to us to change our behavior. So for me it is still a daily struggle but I have learned how to win most of the battles. Good luck to you and your surgery, hopefully you too will find the path you need to follow.

During these times I found that thinking of your brain as a 2 year old really helps.
A 2 year old wants what it wants and wants it right now. During this process you have been disciplined, determined, and strong. Your brain naturally wants to go back to feeling good. It wants the junk food as it made it happy. So when the going got rough in the past your brain would put up road blocks and you would crumble.
Think back to your first stall - didn't you doubt yourself and your success? In the past that is when most of us gave up. I am starving myself for nothing I am not even losing weight now. I might as well have that cheeseburger. That was all your brain and you have in to him every time.
Now his trick is getting you to doubt your success at this.
The trick is to learn his tricks. Trust me this is not an easy task to master. At 1.5 years post op I still struggle with my two year old. You can be stronger than the 2 year old!

I understand why Star Jones kept referring to her weight loss as a medical intervention, which it is for most of us. Imagine the state of mind we are in now and then try and comprehend 20 million other people weighing in with their opinions about your decision.

. Would you mind telling me how much you weigh and how much your doctor feels might get you out of open. My doctor says the same thing to me but he hasn't said a probable weight.

I am Pre-Op and dumping scares me. I have an extremely fast digestion and almost dump every bowel movement as it is. I wonder if I should take liquid Fiber after RNY. Kinda too scared to mention to Dr., afraid he won't operate.

Most doctors want you to consume 60-100g of Protein daily. Since our pouch only holds so much at the beginning, protein shakes are suggested by most doctors. I eat three meals and 2 shakes a day. I will send you some links of the programs of some places it explains it all. Are you in a program or just deciding to have the surgery?
