    Dr Mehul Trivedi Albany NY

Dr Trivedi has long known about Dr Lamanski's behaviors. I quickly lost my 15 pounds and was cleared by him, yet she refused to sign off on my paperwork for THREE MONTHS. This even with daily calls from Trivedi's office for three weeks straight

    Kellogg's shakes

Grocery store breakfast shakes are pure crap. You would be better off drinking plain milk. I did not care for the flavor of any of the whey Proteins so I have no suggestions for them. I enjoyed the Spiru-tien shakes.

    Deciding when to have surgery....

That depends on how old your daughter. If she is in grade school then I would not suggest it. IT also depends on what surgery you are having. IF you are having the Roux en Y that I definitely would not suggest it.

    Protein before surgery?

If I remember correctly, I think my NUT said over 20-25 grams in a serving is a waste. You won't digest the rest.

    Insurance Approval?

How quickly they can schedule your surgery has many factors. Does your insurance require a diet program to be charted before surgery Does the surgeon/bariatric center have any pre-requirements Do you need to do the following: sleep Study, Nut appointments, Psych Eval, Upper GI, Cardio release, Endoscopy I would suggest if you want to get some things rolling, call the surgeon office and see what appointments you are going to need. Then go ahead and make those appointments.

    receiving attention?

So true. As people see you smaller there is less attention focused on it. I did have a few months where I was really dehydrated. During that time people asked about me, not to me, if I was ill. When I commented about this to my hubby, he did say I looked like I had cancer. Even though I was nowhere near my goal, I just looked very sickly.

    Need to TALK!

My journey from first going to my PCP to actually having the surgery took one long year. I thought the day would never come. I had appointments cancelled and the NUT sit on my paper work for two months. So much frustration. But the day did come. 9 months later it seems like just yesterday I was waiting for my surgery date. It will come. And then your life will be turned on its head. And you will do amazingly.

    Abdomen pain

It's probably too early in your weight loss to be your gall bladder if you still have one. That soon since your surgery it might be a few things. Not chewing your food enough, gas, eating too quickly or a stricture. Never be afraid to call your doctor. It's your health and this is a long term procedure. Not just a surgery and then your on your own. Lastly, keep Mylanta on hand. It is a cure all with belly issues.

    Is Bad breath normal?

The Ketosis does level out. But for awhile breath, BO and urine are very strong smelling. Once you start eating more balanced meals it gets better.

    Overly anxious

You will all do great. Roux en Y is reversible. The sleeve isn't.

    Feel stuck

Your body is recuperating from a huge trauma. Fluid is clinging to all the areas that where cut or moved during the surgery. Try not to jump on that scale. I know it's hard. The weight will come off. Focus on your fluids and it will help to flush your system.

    Overly anxious

Yes The night before is very stressful. Tomorrow you are going to be changing everything. But don't fret, when you wake up from the surgery you won't be hungry at all.
  13. WildGrits

    Confused

It looks like it is just adding mal absorption to the sleeve. I have never heard of it before. If you were already decided on the Lap-band I'm not sure why he would suggest this to you. Maybe if you were looking at the Sleeve.

    Question about vitamins

You can also take your Vitamins in liquid form or sublingual. My surgeon request that we take our B12 in sublingual form. Viactiv is a good source of calcium and Vitamin D and taste good too-----most drug stores have their own version of it for much cheaper In the beginning I bought the chewable vitmains & calcium from Unjury/Opurity. They have everything you need. Unfortunately they are really big and I just cant get past the taste of a chewable vitamin. I was glad I had bought them off a fellow Roux en Y gal so I hadn't paid full price. They ended up going to another gal cause I just couldn't take them. Wellesse makes a nice liquid vitamin. The flavor is a bit like a 5 hour energy. Not great but not terrible.

    Insurance - BCBS FEP

I don't have BCBS but I found out that my Panniculectomy Surgery will be covered next year. When I asked surgeon what covered means they said however much of your Roux en Y was cover is how much of your Panniculectomy will be covered.

Midol Not the one with Naproxen.

    Pain Two Years Out

A few people on another message board where complaining about this also. Without a gallbladder it sounds like Pancreatitis. It doesn't hurt to keep Mylanta on hand.

    Pre op tests

Probably depends on your doctor. My blood work is 9 vials every three months. I know they are checking Vitamin level for deficiencies as well as hormone levels, thyroid panel, and......................well that's all I can think of. Along with blood work there is the upper GI, sleep study, endoscopy, Nut visit x2, cardio, and shrink clearance.

    Liquid diet question

I agree, lots of the shakes and Protein drinks out the are almost impossible to choke down. The Vitamin Shoppe has lots of single serve packages to try so you don't end up buying a container of stuff you hate. My personal favorite shake is Spirutein. The store above sells it but not the single serve packets. What I like about this brand is there is chunks in the shakes so you get a bit of chewing and it dissolves super easy so no blender required. I had no luck with anything made of whey isolates. I still have a giant container of it on my fridge. YUCK!!!!!

What Every Weight Loss Surgery Candidate Should Know

What were you told prior to surgery about life after surgery that was not entirely true or was not the entire story? Although I feel that my Dr's seminar was very informative as well as this message board, there are many aspects of my new life I was not prepared for. I was not prepared for how easily eating something that doesn't agree with me can take me out with such intense pain for hours. How feeling full is now in my chest not in my belly. How incredibly important it is to stay hydrated. What do you wish you had fully understood prior to surgery that you did not and what do you believe would have put you in the best possible position to succeed after surgery? As I stated before, the Doctor was very informative and I am extremely happy that I choose to have the surgery. And it has been stated here many times but I still to this day have a hard time wrapping my head round it. NEITHER THIS SURGERY NOR THE WEIGHT LOSS WILL MAKE YOU LIFE BETTER!!!!! OMG I cannot stress it enough and am still struggling with it. Now I am just a much thinner me but struggling with poor eating habits and all my other vices that I have had for decades. It didn't improve my marriage, my parenting skills or my relationship with others. It is a weight loss tool and that is all it is. You still have to do the hard work. What information, if any, was missing in the lead-up to your surgery that gave you unreasonable expectations or that led to disappointment in the months or years since surgery? None that I can think of.

stuck food usually only at dinner

I have a problem with dinners also. IT's mostly because the meat itself is too dry compared to the other meals which are eggs, or cottage cheese or lunch meat. I find cock potting my dinner makes it much wetter and I have less problems.

    isolated in the south

Yes there is. It is called a closed group. You only thing that would break your privacy is if you forget to post in the group and post in your own wall instead. It happens. Just search groups about WLS and you will find plenty. Just make sure they are closed groups if that's what you are looking for.

    Albany, New York....?

I Don't know if it ever really goes bad. It does dehydrate so I would say when it looks like the part sticking to the bowl is higher than the Jell-O itself, probably too rubbery to eat. Defiantly able to keep a week.

    Sex Drive Decreased After Surgery

I would like to bump this topic. The first few months after WLS my libido was awesome. Now 6 months out it is totally gone. The mind thinks about it a lot but the body is not into it. Anyone else having or had this problem? Any fixes out there? I have had my blood work done twice since surgery and it has rocked, without any supplements.
