Creamy tomato soup
nathaly replied to crazedteacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! im only 7 days post op but I recommend trader joe's Latin style black bean soup. It already has Protein from the Beans but you can add some unflavored protein to it too. The best thing it's that it also has lots of Fiber which helps with digestion! And it's delicious. I also strained egg drop soup tonight. It counts as liquid intake which is #2 in the priority list. Yum! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 249 -
Pros: This surgery is a tool that has life and habit altering results. And if well maintained the success rate is amazing. I'm a numbers gal. What convinced me are three simple statistics: The recidivism rate for "normal" weight loss ie diet and exercise: 95%!!!!!! It is absolutely mind boggling that 95% of people who diet and exercise gain all their weight back PLUS 5 pounds within 5 years of weight loss!!!! The rate of complications from RNY: 0.2%. While this means that there is a possibility of life being miserable after surgery, the odds were in my favor. The recidivism rate for RNY patients in 5 years: Virtually 0%. 10 years 20-30%. For my surgeon less than 5%!!! Which means I have to be a real fuck up to and return to my old ways to be in that 5%! CONS Breaking up with food was hard. We had a good 23 year run. It was my friend, my partner, my confidant. It never failed me. It never did anything wrong. But I gave it the old "it's not you, it's me". And reminded myself that I'm the most important thing in this world to me. Not kids or dogs or husband. ME!! Without me there will be no one else to love them As we'll as I do! I still miss food but our relationship has to change. Food is not in control of me. I'm in control now. Another con: my insurance is miserable and cheap (talking to you Aetna!) so I paid 20 grand out of pocket to get it. I thought of going abroad but I could not check credentials as confidently as I can do here. So I gave myself the best chance for success. Again I am the best investment I can make. Money will come and go easily. Health is not as easy to come by. I get tired so easily now. But it's temporary. I am having a hard time with Protein drinks. But hopefully things will get easier after I'm out of the puréed phase. Would I go through it again? You bet your sweet ass! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 249

What ya eating tonight?
nathaly replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my life skills class they mentioned that sugar alcohols will give you dumping just like regular sugars. They would be processed the same in our old old stomach and cannot be broken down in the new. Going into the small intestine largely undigested and causing dumping. Be careful! HW 283. SW265. How much of the protein shake are you able to consume?
nathaly replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week post op today! I have only been able to drink a single 14oz Protein shake if I sip it all day. I get the 50gram per bottle Protein Drink so it helps a lot with meeting my protein requirements. I get full very quickly. Can't even get a full egg in. I usually have meals that are 1/8 of a cup total and feel satisfied but not overfill. Definitely have to wait half an hour before and after to drink anything. HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 251 -
You need to wait for 15 to 30 mins after a meal to drink and need to stop drinking 30 mins before a meal too. I don't do so good after 15 mins so I have to wait 30 mins after eating. HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 251

I would love a juicy grilled rare rib eye steak and a soda!!! Unfortunately neither are allowed 1 wk post op! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 251

I'm still in the puréed phase so I have had the same meal everyday since I started puréed food 4 days ago. 1 oz of chicken and spinach soup with a dollop of Faye 0% fat yogurt! Mmmm. I'm waiting half an hour for it to digest then I'm gonna try a spoonful of baby food pears! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 251 -

Me and my boyfriend go on dates quite often and almost always they involved going out for food or drinks then a movie or some "sexy time". Now we can't do food or sex (I'm only a few days post op) and we've already watched every movie in the theater and every show on tv! I need some ideas on non food dates that don't involve the outdoors cause it's freezing cold here or a lot of walking since my energy is in the dumps! Thanks! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 256

March 2013 Post Op "A New Life 2013"
nathaly replied to ElleG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Janel! I had eaten some scrambled with a sprinkle of cheese and pasta sauce. It tasted heavenly but then I got paranoid that I shouldn't have had it. I made sure to throughly chew though! I haven't gotten sick so far. WHEW!! But I like your idea of soft boiled eggs. Will try it for breakfast tomorrow! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 256 -
I'm not sure what I would say to someone who said that to me other than to tell them that their views are ignorant and they should educate themselves before commenting. That or just b**ch slap someone. HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 256

Hmmm my surgeon told me that it is normal to have constant diarrhea post op. maybe they are doing the colonoscopy bc of other risk factors? I send you my best wishes! Good luck. HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 256

What I used to get me through was putting cinnamon on the shakes. It made them actually yummy! Also I went through a big bottle of franks red hot sauce. Put that in my broth with salt and pepper since I am more of a salt tooth. I used both beef and chicken broth. It wasn't easy but totally worth it. Bc of the lost weight and smaller liver the surgeon didn't have to do more than 4 incisions including the one for the drain. Losing the weight was also motivation. HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 256

Best of Luck to those going in this week!!! I am 4 days post op and down 7 lbs! I had a rough two days at first with nausea plus getting my period right after but these past two days have been great. No hunger, no pain. So far my RNY has been worth it! I wish you all a speedy and painless recovery! HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 258.

3 Day Post Op - And Started My Period!
nathaly replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg!! I have the same thing. I had my period two weeks before surgery and I got it again the day after surgery!! It's heavy and the cramps are killing me but the surgeon said it was normal since your system has gone through a lot! The same thing happened after I got my gallbladder out. Good luck! HW 283. SW265. I had surgery almost 16 hours ago. And while I don't regret it, I am not feeling good right now. The nausea and pain are making me cry! As soon as I stand up I am immediately nauseous. I'm bleeding everywhere! My incisions, my throat, nose and even my vag is bleeding even though my period was only two weeks ago. I hope to get better soon and hopefully be able to sleep. Im so sad that I'm extremely hungry. It's uncommon but normal. I had hoped this surgery would make the hunger pangs go away. I don't know if I'll be successful but I can't wait to be a healthy, sexy woman, and that's what keeps me going now! HW 283. SW tbd 3/22/13! CW 265

Mine is on Friday! I'm in the liquid phase now. But my surgeon had me do a meal supplement called Optifast for two weeks before surgery! It's been kicking my butt! HW 283. SW tbd 3/22/13! CW 265 -
CAN'T WAIT FOR MY SURGERY!
nathaly replied to tpimpette1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your surgeon should have given you specific instructions on what to eat. At least two days before you must be on Clear liquids (chicken or beef broth, sugar free Jello, Popsicles, and crystal light). Before that start on what you will be eating six months after surgery. Focusing mainly on Protein (my goal is 80 grams) and nothing with more than 6grams of sugar unless its from a natural food like fruit, vegetables, or dairy. Good luck! When's your surgery? HW 283.
