terry1118 got a reaction from Steviefan1 in Anyone else having trouble eating post-op with others that don't?
I doesn't bother me. Cooking for my husband is easy. He's a body builder and eats what I eat, only more of it. I go out to eat w/my friends and never have any problems finding something I can eat and enjoy. I still love to bake goodies but now I just give them away instead of eating them. Watching other people eat things I can't have anymore is not a problem either. I don't crave things anymore and could care less about all the foods I used to eat. I don't know how long that will last (I'm 15 months post RNY) but I enjoy the fact that I control what I eat and not the other day around. :-)

By seven months post op I had lost 100 pounds and felt amazing! I went on to lose 20 pounds more and still feel amazing - lots of energy and pain-free. There's no reason for you to feel miserable a year out, or even after 6 months!
The person who'll be doing your dress-fitting, on the other hand? THAT person will be miserable, working overtime taking it in, and taking it in, and taking it in yet again - to make sure your dress fits by the time your special day arrives! Lol

It's a matter of perspective. Unless someone comes out and says something clearly and specifically insulting than it's all shades of gray. If it's openly offensive, report it. Ultimately we choose what to read and then we decide what to take out of it. So your mindset to "take what you want, leave what you don't" is the best way to handle things. What it boils down to is I don't know any of you and you don't know me. Why should an opinion formed and based on a few comments matter one way or another to any of us? I try to offer my personal experience and knowledge (based on my medical team's education) to try to help or reassure someone. I try to offer it in a non-judgmental way. I have no control over how someone sees my comment. That is entirely their choice. We all have a vastly different experiences that, when shared, often can help someone else cope with their own fears and problems. That's worth hanging around for. :-)

Having such a special dress made for you by someone you love is wonderful. Congrats, and best of luck with your surgery and your new healthier life. :-)

Thrift stores, clearance sales, local clothing swaps (there's supposedly an online one here, though I never used it). I work in a bank so I had a LOT of big good quality clothes. I found a young woman a few months behind me in her weight loss journey to pass my clothes down to. Every 6-8 weeks I'd meet her to hand over bags and bags of clothes. Maybe find someone in your support group who'll share?

The scale this morning had a new middle number, but since this is the NSV thread...
Was putting on jeans for a date Saturday night... The pair I pulled on looked saggy in the butt and they were the only pair I've been wearing lately that fit at all any more. I saw a pair laying folded on the closet floor (yeah, my closet is like that), grabbed them, pulled them on and they fit (without cutting me in half even). Two months ago I was in a 16. I looked at the pair I had tried on and they were a 14. Went in the bathroom (where there was light) and checked the tag and the pair I had on were a 12!!!!
I'm in a FREAKIN' SIZE 12 JEAN!!! So, I promptly went to the mall, into Express and tried on this really cute lacy top that maxed out in a size large (no XL's in that store) and the size LARGE fit!!!
Tell me I wasn't feeling like a rock star on that date (only the second with this guy).

I plan on having my mom make my dress so that she will be able to make alterations easier as needed. I am hoping that goes smoothly. Plan on doing a test run with cheap fabric for the dress.

The written word is limited by people's ability to put what they're thinking into words. Maybe they lack the vocabulary to express what they mean properly, or have regional differences of expression, or misspellings that can change the meaning (and let's not forget that damn autocorrect that is always making my comments sound like so much gibberish!). There is no tone of voice or speech emphasis to help get the point and/or meaning across. Sometimes an innocent comment or reply can hit a nerve, prompting a strong reaction. We all have mental landmines that can trigger an emotional 'explosion' if some unfortunate person hits on it just right. Some people are blunt - they say what they think without trying to 'soften' it. There can be an occasional 'troll' trying to stir things up for fun. And, yes, some people ARE too sensitive.
I don't always agree with everyone on here. But I don't always agree with my own husband of 33 years either. It's not a bad thing, it's just different points of view from different people. It's normal. If I disagree with something I'll try to explain my point of view. If someone takes exception to that then I step back from it. Sometimes I can see another point of view even if it doesn't agree with mine. A difference of opinion doesn't make me right and you wrong, or visa-versa. It's just a different opinion. We can all contribute, each in our own way. :-)

If I get a response that feels mean-spirited, then I don't answer back and just move on. I learned from having such stress that it maxed out my blood pressure and hit me with a stroke in 2010. Now if I think someone is bullying me on-line here, I just walk away and leave them unresponded. I am not going to give them a chance to hit me twice. I have been on here since September 2013 and have received awesome advice that carried me though many dark days.
The 80/20 rule of life works here, too. Let's say that 80% of the comments here are intended to uplift you and sail you over the rough spots. Don't let that 20% of roadkill slow you down. There is a lot of valuable support on this forum. Please feel free to ask us questions. As you procede through your own weight loss journey, you will be able to look back and help other newbies following behind you.

I had a normal conversation AND a long questionnaire. But it was no big deal. They want to make sure you have no eating disorders or emotional issues that will sabotage your post op success. If they think you do have a problem, they'll work on it preop so nothing will prevent you from succeeding. :-)
