    Tell me about your restrictions

I have the sleeve and I don't have any food issues really. I do choose to eat small throughout the day. I've tried lots of food and everything agrees with me so I have to be vigilant about good choices. I can tell when I need to eat but I don't generally get nauseous, I keep a ziploc with a quest or pure protein bar and if I'm getting hungry and it's not meal time or I'm out and about I nibble about 1/4 of a bar And I'm good. I eat lunch and dinner like normal with my family must less quantities and cutting most of the carbs out other than fruits and veggies. I don't know if that's the kind of info you're looking for but hope it helps. By the way, I wanted the lap band about 5 yrs ago and was denied by insurance....so thankful for that!! I love the sleeve even though I was self pay. Best $20k I have spent!!

    1 Year Later...600 calories?

When I was 2-4 weeks post surgery and only getting 550-650 I don't lose hardly a thing. Once I was able to hit 800+ (4 wks) I would lose much quicker. I'm now 2-1/2 months post surgery, I get 750 on a low day and 950 calories on a high day. I always lose more the days/weeks I eat more calories. I can't imagine being your size and only getting 600 calories in at a year out (I am your size, by the way. Started 347, today I'm 276.) maybe your stomach is much smaller but, man, my surgeon wants me getting in 1100-1300 healthy calories as soon as I can.

    I'm curious...what do you mean?

    Frozen yogurt

I track everything on my fitness pal. It has tons of Menchies flavors. If I remember right, the sample cups are about 2 tablespoons each if not over the brim.

    So, what's your hurry?

I was on this forum for a year and a half before my surgery so I saw enough people freak out about stalls or things like 'I only lost a pound a day this month' that I knew not to freak out, knew to expect stalls, knew that eventually the weight would drop if I followed my plan. Glad I was well prepared because it has sure helped since I am a fairly slow loser even though I'm a heavyweight.

    Not losing :(

Focus on getting hydrated and getting your nutrients up and the weight will follow. Plus, 30 lbs in probably a month and a half?? That's a lot to lose to say you're not losing!!

    Fashion

Thank you ladies for the entertainment. It went well with my Saturday morning coffee.

    Bigger Boobs, REALLY!?!?

If you go up to a 40DD you'll probably be fine. Plus, every brand fits different too.
  10. I've eaten too fast when I'm busy talking, probably chewing fast and swallowing so I can respond or join in the conversation. I have to put down my fork after every single bite and take 1/2 the size bite I think I should. Every few bites I try and pause for at least a minute to check my fullness gauge. I can no longer multi-task while I eat like I used to, no reading, cleaning, driving, etc.
  11. In my opinion, it depends on how overweight you are. I have no medical conditions caused by my weight but I was 347 lbs and 5'7". Not healthy! Eventually it would have caused medical problems so I paid for my own surgery to curtail that. My insurance doesn't pay for any wls unfortunately so I have a 5 yr loan but will hopefully add many more years to my life. I'm excited to see what the future holds as I continue to lose, I am already way more active with my kids and husband.

How much did you lose at 8 weeks ?

I started at 347, lost 34 pre-op (2 months self motivated diet waiting for surgery...it's so much easier when you know there's a light at the end of the tunnel). In the 2 months post op I lost 32 more. I am on the slower side for my size but like previous poster said, I would've lost faster had it not been for pre-op weight loss. I'm happy with it though, it helped prep my mind and body tremendously. I'm 2-1/2 months out now and my total loss just hit 70 lbs. just to add, I didn't lose much the first month. When I could finally hit 700-800 calories that's when my body complied and lost faster. I've lost 5-6 lbs a week a few times and 1/2 lb once in month one.

Whole wheat pasta and brown rice... Yes or no?

If you "have" to have pasta or rice then it is a better choice, but my NUT pointed out how high in calories they are so I haven't touched them since 2 months before surgery. Just another one of my former weight loss mistakes...changing to whole wheat pasta and brown rice and wondering why I wasn't losing weight!

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining

Ooh, good to know about the surgery card. I had only been going off of what I read since I haven't been there since surgery. Worth a shot
  15. I just realized I finally have less than 100 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight!!! I'm so pleased with the results of my hard work and the surgery. In my case it is not all the sleeve doing the work! I lost 35 lbs in 10 weeks before surgery and another 35 lbs in the 9 weeks since surgery. I'm thankful for the tool but do realize it's up to me to use it wisely. I haven't been this weight in 15 years. Oh, and even then I was on Jenny Craig and miserable from the tiny portions and cardboard flavored prepared meals. Loving life

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining

Pelican lady, I've read quite a few Threads on disboards and looks like they don't generally honor the card from surgeons. I would call the individual restaurant and ask to be sure if you are really counting on it. I have heard of a character dining place that just charged an entertainment fee if you are going with your family but not eating. It is a case by case basis and they don't have to honor it. My fingers are crossed though! Deanask8te, everyone in a Disney room must be on the same dining plan or none at all. We are going the first of September so it is free dining for us.

How did people react to your weight loss?

I totally changed my eating and started exercising 2-1/2 months before my surgery (after initial appt with surgeon) so I had lost 35 lbs before surgery. It has been 9 weeks since surgery and I've lost another 35 since then. I think that helped ward off some of the attention.
  18. Thank you to all the vets who have continued to post on this thread. It is a great reminder that we are in this as a life change and not a miracle fix. We will always need to keep in mind that we have an angry beast following us around ready to pounce when we let down our guard too much.

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining

Thanks, everyone. Not going until end of summer so I am still checking out the sites and info recommended. Yes, I do recall Hollywood Studios not having great choices, thinking back, we always got burgers. I always had the mind set of being on vacation was splurge time and didn't watch what I ate. The dining plan comes with dessert included 2x a day plus we would always do a pastry for breakfast. No more!!! I'm sure I will include a few treats but in general I want to make smart choices. I've been trying out powdered protein coffee mixes that I can mix with the hot water at the hotel for breakfast.
  20. I've been eating "chip ins" on occasion. They are kind of like tortilla chips but also popcorn-ish...hard to describe. They are salty and crunchy. You get 20 for 120 calories. I eat 10. Perfect little snack to curb my chip and cracker cravings. I had the sleeve, so no malabsorbtion, so I can't attest to the undigested fats problem you are having with the duodenal switch.

I would guess the pain is from eating too much or too fast. That's the only time I've ever felt discomfort.

    worried new sleever here :)

The pyloric valve at the bottom of your stomach that your food exits through has not been changed so liquid doesn't leave any differently. Food doesn't either, the problem is when you drink and eat together the liquid can flush the food out quicker leaving you hungry sooner or it can back up and make you vomit since there's nowhere for it to go when food is filling your stomach.

    Trapped Air....

Wow, I was super jealous when I saw on your profile that you started at 400 and are already at 312!! I had my surgery shortly after yours and have only lost 35 lbs since then. Made me feel better when I read your post that the starting weight was 4 years ago. We have about the same surgery stats! You've done great so far! Maybe try slowing down when you are eating, make sure you're not drinking for an hour after you eat, etc. hoping this trapped air thing gets better! Keep up the good work!

    Is juicing ideal

My Nut says no fruit juice after the first few weeks. If you want fruit, eat fruit. It has the needed fiber and stuff but juice is like sugar in a cup.
  25. About two weeks. I usually have a premier protein drink with 30g and a Dannon Greek light n fit yoghurt (12 g) and can get the rest with meats and cheeses nibbled on during my meals and snacks,
