  1. Sadly, I was self pay and the insurance didn't cover my surgery, only the additional portion that the hernia caused (extra time under sedation, extra billable surgery room, etc). Insurance paid that $6000 no problem, but I still got the $18000 gastric sleeve portion.

Pregnant and then lost the baby?

I'm so sorry for your loss. You probably don't know the cause of the miscarriage that early on but it could be possible you need to be further out from surgery as was originally recommended. I would wait the year and try again. Even without wls, most dr swill recommend you wait 3 months after a miscarriage before you try again. I've only heard of one doctor who said to try again next month to my friend and she miscarried that one too.
  3. Sizes have changed so much since I was my smallest at 17 (35 now) that I have no clue what size I want to end up as. I know with vanity sizing my daughters vintage Calvin Klein size 8 skirt from the 80s is the same size as her size 2 and 4 that are new. All in all, I just want to look "normal" and healthy, to be able to shop pretty much wherever I want and to feel pretty.

    7 days post op help

I didn't lose weight the first week either, I gained 6 lb from the IV fluids. The second week I lost that 6 lbs, the 3rd week I finally was getting below my surgery weight. I was a slow starter but it picked up month two. I'm now 12 weeks out today and am down 41 lbs from my surgery day (75 lbs since pre-op).

11 weeks out and weight loss stalled......

food ideas...I am 12 weeks out today. I am a low carb eater so you can adjust to fit your lifestyle. Breakfast: I usually have Greek yogurt, scrambled egg w/ turkey sausage, cottage cheese or a Protein drink Lunch: deli meat and cheese, veggies w/ Greek yogurt ranch dip, leftovers from dinner, cottage cheese w/ marinara (heated up, sometimes w/ turkey pepperoni and mozzarella on top) Dinner: I eat whatever I make my family, only will modify for myself. Last night, chicken breast w/ jalapeño havarti on top, grilled w/ mushrooms, small dollar of mashed sweet potatoes (I had to skip the salad, no room). Night before was tacos. I put my toppings (seasoned ground turkey, black Beans, cheese, salsa and Greek yogurt) in a bowl instead of tortilla. Tonight will be baked tilapia, steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower and leftover sweet potatoes. Snacks: almonds, string cheese or cheddar stick, protein frappe or iced coffee, occasionally a few wheat thins smeared with a Laughing Cow Lite wedge, Protein Bar if I'm in a pinch or on the road. Hope this helps a little. Also, when I'm not losing or losing only a little, that's when my body changes the most.

    Sneezing

    I get a double hiccup.
  8. I will be traveling for about 2 weeks to DisneyWorld. I need any tips on dining at Disney (I have the quick service dining plan...it is free so I'm not concerned with throwing stuff away) and also on getting all my protein in. I usually do premier drinks but they are too heavy to pack. I will be 5 months out of surgery during the trip.

    Are you ok?

I am still over 270 lbs and I've had a handful of people recently remark about my weight and ask me why I've finally decided to lose weight (I'm mid 30s). Wow, people are rude!!!!

No weight loss since week 1

It's ok and it's normal. Follow the plan and it will pick back up! Your body is still recovering for surgery.

    Afraid of failure

I'm not gonna lie, I'm only 3 months out and it already takes work!! It takes good choices and self control still but, man, it is so much easier with my sleeve! If you're willing to be co-laborer with your sleeve then you'll do fine.

Vsg 4 weeks out and struggling

Surgery date , I was 313...four weeks later I was 300 and I followed the post op diet to a "T". Um, I don't think you can be down about 14 lbs in 4 weeks when you are starting at such a low weight. Keep things in perspective and you'll be just fine. Slow and steady wins the race...

Whats going on with my sleeve?

I didn't really feel restriction until I moved on to real food. Don't sweat it, this will work!
  15. Love the ending about making fat people write a letter...perfect!! I would concentrate more on physical and social limitations. I didn't have to write a letter (insurance excluded...self pay...sigh) but I made a list for myself and my husband as part of the decision making process. Here are a selected few for ideas (I had a lot). -flying with a seatbelt extender and can't put tray down -not fitting in restaurant booths -chair arms digging into my hips -huffing and puffing my way up stairs -being excluded from activities because of exceeding the weight limit

Are you pre-WLS? Take pictures now.

Love your fat person descriptions...cracked me up! I second the picture taking, at least some front and side views for comparison. My surgeons office took some at the consult.

6 weeks out... Is this normal

My hunger was back at about a month, I've heard many different experiences on here. Even though my hunger is back, it is very freeing because I can eat a small amount and control it rather than it raging out of control.
  18. My hiatal hernia was fixed during surgery and I've been on omeprazole since the so not sure that GERD is cured, just controlled so far. As far as I've been told they have to fix a hiatal hernia to do sleeve or bypass because the have to pull the stomach back. The poster with intestines and stuff through stomach muscle is not a hiatal hernia but a different kind.

    Stomach scope procedure

Don't stress,it's a piece of cake. I was a little sleepy the rest of the day but that's it.

How do I keep carbs at a minimum at this point?

Some low carb things I had at your stage... -Dannon light n fit Greek yogurt (8 carbs) -premier protein chocolate shake (5 carbs...30 protein) -cottage or ricotta cheese heated up with Classico sauce and mozzarella on top -I never ate oatmeal or beans, rarely fruit and could only fit a few bites of veggies. I am almost 3 months and stay below 50 carbs almost always. In a pinch I had the refried beans at Taco Bell this week which was 21 carbs in itself so I can see how hard it would be to low carb with beans, grains and fruit being your staples. Unless you are super carb sensitive like myself I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are plenty of people on here who eat what they want in moderation and do great. I am just someone who has a problem with carbs so I try and stay away if I can.

    DAY 3 Omg, The pain...

I second kindles answer. Gas x is absorbed in your intestines, it's not gonna help your cavity gas although it sounds good in theory. Play "Jersey Shore" and get your fist bump going as often as needed, walk, do any movement that you can. Day 3 was the worst day for me with any of the pain and day 4 on out was big improvements, hope yours is the same.

    Shakes How long?

If your shakes have that little protein I wouldn't bother with them either. I drink premier protein with 30 grams so I really need it most days as I can't hit my 75+ just with food always.

How long after your sleeve did you see a big change?

At 30 lb my two closest friends noticed, at 50-60 lbs everyone noticed. I still don't see it a lot. I've lost all my weight from the waist up so in full body mirror or photos I still seem to look the same. Face shot and I could see it at about 50 lbs.

    DAMN!

I'm almost 3 months out. When I just have to have pizza, I eat the toppings only. Didn't try it until 2-1/2 months. Figured it would be fine since I eat melted cheese w/ tomato sauce and cottage cheese as a snack anyways. It will be an every once in a while thing for me but I'm very pleased that I get full off the toppings of one slice.

    Apps for calorie/protein tracking?

I second myfitnesspal I especially like on the pie chart and goals that I was able to customize my macronutrients because they automatically have high carbs in their program. I've learned so much about nutrition just by logging all my food (if you bite it, write it haha). And the little pat on the back they give is nice when they notice your weight loss.
