dropdeadweightdiva got a reaction from Elode in When are the "typical" stalls?
Admit I thought I had reached my bodies decided base weight last August but the scale just recently decided to drop another 3 pounds.. So the closer you get to goal the longer a stall can last.. In August I was 9 months out. I also stalled for months 6 and 7 before it moved again for month 8. Just keep in mind that things will slow down as you go and what you think is a personal goal weight may shift as you progress and your body decides differently. In the meantime get a tape measure it's much more reliable than the scale.

Hi I am in the process of going through the program at Garrett Wellness in Richmond. Just recently went to Richmond and saw the dietician for the second time and the occupational therapist for the first time. Not ready for surgery yet, but I am on the right track. I've done the first set of blood work, ultra sound, and bone density tests. Just got to work on the mental changes and eating patterns.

My dietician told me to use Benefiber, and not Metamucil, specifically for the reason that Metamucil will be too much for my sleeve. The Benefiber (Shopko brand is what I use - MUCH cheaper) has worked very well for me. Good luck!

I make a point of drinking all day long.. so when I am eating I don't crave fluids. My suggestion would be to have a decent sized drink about half an hour before you usually eat. Also if you find yourself craving fluids while you eat maybe have a yogurt or something that consistency during your meal so you kind of feel that texture but it will fill you up at the same time. I know for me I have learned that when I fall off the wagon onto the carb express I can eat a huge amount of food, especially chips and crackers..As much as this surgery is a tool it's not a cure and we still have to fight the head games. Also when I overdo carbs my head hunger jumps into full effect and I find myself drinking less than I do when I am focusing on Protein. So as much as I am not one of those 'no carbs' sleever.. I am aware that carbs are the devil, lol So just be aware of the carbs in the form of breads, Pasta, crackers.. i don't count carbs in yogurt, shakes etc as a rule in my daily intake.. I do still have a shake every morning for Breakfast and I add a scoop of Fiber to it and you will be surprised how much heavier that sits to help tide you over for the morning.. I also drink a butt load of nestea green tea zero and Powerade zero.. Agree with your doctor to move more but the thing people tend to forget about is weight training.. cpl days a week .. i can set you up with a program that takes 20minutes.. muscle burns fat so it really is an essential part of the process while you are trying to lose.. Also try to stay off the scale and take your measurements instead.. much more reliable tell as the scale will stay still but the inches will move..

Well for those of you still following the thread... Plastics here I come, goodness help me. Yes I will post before and after pics, but not until after the surgery. I am having an inverted T incision Tummy Tuck with NO muscle tightening. Why go through the surgery without tightening? Well I am one of the lucky ones to have the surgery covered here in Alberta. My surgeon waivered on whether or not I should qualify, even with consistent rashes developing, back pain and abdominal cramping during exercise.. He said it's still mainly cosmetic... We disagree, but I smiled and said nothing.. I didn't complain or react strongly when he told me no coverage. I did ask the cost though.
He was very surprised at the sheer volume of excess skin I am carrying around on my abdomen. He went on and on and on about it, playing with it like he was a child surrounded by a mountain of playdough.. It was pretty funny all round.
He decided that I should in fact qualify as he stared at the picture he took for his own reference after he told me it would cost me $10 000...
I never cried on the hour long drive after I found out I had kidney cancer, I cried all the way home this time. I was soooo happy, am sooo happy about having this done. On that note he did specify that he was not going to tighten any muscles.. To be honest I was relieved to hear it as I understand that the muscle tightening makes for a more painful and longer recovery. Now I just need to bust my ass with weight training, planking, etc between now and early July so I am as strong as I can be before going in.
Went for a walk with my hubby last night and holy crap have I slacked off over the last couple months so the weather is nice now and the excuses need to stop!!!! Self lecture over.
I did decide that I am very likely not having my bat wings done in the future. I think this one is my swan song for elective surgeries. I am simply getting too old for this shi*. I said 'I', if someone else my age, or older, desires plastic surgery for those things they can live with, more power to them, but I am almost over that hump.. pun intended.

My BMI the day of surgery was 31. Getting surgery wasn't about losing weight. I had lost 60 pounds prior to my surgery date. Making the decision for me was about keeping the weight off. 99% who lose without surgery gain it back and then some. 50% of those who have WLS keep it off for life. I went with the choice that gives me the best odds of life long health.

I am so with you. I have experienced plenty of weakness!!!!! Okay, we have to be realistic. We are not going to be able to not ever snack or eat. We do have to find alternatives. All of the Snacks you listed, ILOVE!!!!! The chex mix I love cheddar flavored. I tried to make it healthier. I used whole wheat chex mix, J and D's bacon and salt cheddar powder 5 calories only 110 sodium 0 everything else.Throw in some fat free pretzels, and some nuts.Popcorn I eat orville Redenbacher whole grain it is so good to me.It is healthy and low fat. Urben accents butter popcorn seasoning for extra flavor all natural and healthy low calorie. I get the seasonings from Amazon. Wheat thins I really do t eat anymore. When I did it was reduced fat and only a serving. If I can help more please talk to me anytime. We are all going to go through our struggles and temptations. We just can't give in all the time. We will sometimes but we just have to pick ourselves up and keep trying. We only live once. We have to make the best of it and never give up! We can do this!

The truth is that the 65% you almost just need to follow your hunger, the other 35% is where up the dicipline starts to become the rule and continues to be the rule for life.
I am at my goal 195 lbs am 6 feet tall and am approaching 70. I still limit my carbs to once ir twice a week at one or two meals. I speed walk (I have knee arthritis) a minimum of 4 miles 4 to 5 times a week and do 50 to 100 ab crunches on those days.
I still eat 6 to 7 times a day but always make sure to control portion size.
The Sleeve is the best decision I ever made and I now am more confident about attending my grandkids weddings, many years from now.

I'm 8 months postop and I was 210 and now 108. I have lost 102 pounds. I believe it's what you put into this weight loss. I have cut out carbs and exercise at least 5 days a week. So, I wouldn't listen to just the 65%. Hope that helps. Jackie

dropdeadweightdiva got a reaction from ab123. in Does the weight loss look differently post WLS?
I started at 287 and it was 75 pounds before "I" noticed a difference, although other people did.. I am only 5'4.. It depends on your body type and your perception of how heavy your are, as we often exaggerate that fact in what we see in the mirror, as opposed to what's actually there. I had lost 96 lbs and regained it in the past. I feel that then I noticed faster but I was exercising much more intensely then and imagine therein lies the difference for me.

Easy answer. Transfer addiction. Basically exchanging one addiction (food) to another (alcohol). You being aware you may be at risk is a good start.

Go back to full fluids for 2 weeks... It can rebound your sleeve if you have stretched it and you should feel the restriction much better. Will power is an important part of this process and if you are able to do the 2 weeks make sure you listen to your sleeve, stick to Protein and fruits and veggies and avoid carbs as much as possible as they often end up being the gateway to falling off the wagon. Good luck.

I think this whole process is crazy hard on the best of relationships, so if the core isn't strong going in, then there are sure to be mountains that come up. Some people feel that as they start to find themselves they realize that they have 'settled' for way too long and refuse to do so any longer. It's important that you do what you need to do in order to be happy. On that note I agree with your desire to not be that person. I would be very careful in revisiting that relationship when you are feeling so vulnerable and unsure. You admitted that he is married and considering that, I don't recommend putting yourself into a situation that begins with 'behind the scenes', why take a step backwards. As a female in a relationship, put yourself in his wife's shoes. How would you feel if you had a husband and he was going for coffee with someone he wished he had married all those years ago??? Not exactly an empowering life choice

Sweetie, I would tread carefully on having coffee with an ex. It's a slippery slope. Solve one issue at a time. Finish what is going on with your partner and then move on to the next issue. You don't need to add more onto your plate right now. Take time to get comfortable in your own new skin and enjoy being with yourself. Only then can you truly enjoy being with someone else. I wish you well!

When people post their private business on a public forum, particularly having to do with a moral issue, you will receive a whole spectrum of responses...advice, compassion, enablers, judgements, opinions, and hard truths. The OP and anyone taking the time to read & respond has gotta take the good with the bad because it is the internet & responses should be policed by moderators and/or the site owner. I didn't see any cattiness going on here and why would it matter...
I'm sorry but I don't see how compassion fits into opening a door with a man who is not your husband...

Your fat cells are full of hormones and as they break down those hormones are released back into your system. So they say it's basically like going through puberty all over again, that or for women like pregnancy, so be prepared to be all over the place for the first while during the process. It should level out as your body adjusts
