I sort of hate the tone of many of these replies.
So, if surgery 1 didn't work for a person, they need to just be unhealthy because that's what they deserve? I'm not sure about that one. At least they keep trying. JMO.
Not referring to the OP btw.
I'm not a revision patient, but really if things were different I would absolutely explore all options.

Are you taking a ppi? If not, try it and see if it helps your hunger.
Also, 6 pounds in a month is fine for lower bmi. The weight is going to come off slowly but steadily. It adds up!

So, no sneezing. But I will say that in my late 30s I realized that I had developed a gross throat-clearing problem when full. Now, my hopes that it would fade away after sleeve were not to be. But, happily, I was able to identify the cause (sugar and lots of it!).

OTOH, my cousin had a sleeve first (later changed to DS after gaining a ton of lbs in grad school) and now swears that her body signals over feeding when her left ear turns red and becomes hot and itchy.

You are not going to get much protein at all from ANY food in the first few weeks. That is why the docs recommend shakes to supplement.

The idea that you simply must eat animal products is ridiculous.

I made a big pot of sweet potato chili tonight. I basically followed this recipe:

except I used 1 can of black Beans and 1 can of red kidney.
I also added some Gardein meatless ground beef and corn. It was yummy!!

Hey everyone. Sorry, it’s been a while. I made an Indian dish called Chana Saag. First time making it. It’s vegetarian and smells so good. I’ll be serving it over rice for my hubby. No rice for me—still makes me too full too fast. Super easy recipe too, hope y’all can try t out sometime. I added extra curry.

I found that if I got the urge to smoke, I told myself go do something else for 5 minutes. I can always smoke later if I really need it. It worked and I never did get around to smoking. It's been over 5 years and I have less than no desire to ever smoke again.

The cravings pass really quickly. It is totally doable, don't psych yourself out! You got this!

Wow I can’t believe the lack of Vet topics we have in this part of the forum. My Husband and I will be 4years VSG next weekend. When I first started researching VSG for us this was my bible. The amount of Vets that had so much good advice and were willing to share it freely. I know we all get on with our lives but I also know that we each have our own struggles and concerns.
Let’s try to be there for each other and make sure those that do pop in or comeback know that we want to help and that we appreciate them sharing their experiences.

LOL SGC - It is a joyous thing to see people embarking on to a new life
Buying clothes is something that a lot of us find is something we could not enjoy for so long - It is wonderful to be able to go in to any store and buy anything we like!!
I remember going in to a store and asking about something in the window (The last one of that jumper) They said ''It won't fit you!'' I made the lady get it out from the window - It DID fit me fine - I was wearing multiple coats as I am always cold now that the weight is gone.... I bought said jumper. Wore it one time - Hated it!! - LOL - It was itchy as sin and I ended up chucking it out - But at least it fit me and I proved that to that stroppy woman! LOL
Enjoy your shopping - But take it easy as you are still healing.

I waited until I reached goal and was nearly 6 months on maintenance. Then I decided to go with my arms first because they bothered me the most.
The result was incredible!!! I had always had what we lovingly called grandma arms.
Then of course, my tummy and breasts really bothered me now that my arms were awesome. So I had a full abdominalplasty, breast lift and augmentation in January 2017. Again, the results are incredible. Completely flat tummy and awesome breasts!!!
Then my I swear it looked like my face melted off and really bothered me so in July for my birthday I had a full deep plane face lift, Endoscopic eyebrow lift, Lower Bleph and fat transfers. My face lift took what looks like 20 years off my face!!! Most of the swelling was gone in 3 weeks and my body is still absorbing sutures and changing a little in a positive way. I still have slight bruises under my eyes but so slight, only me, hubby and surgeon even know they are there. I was presentable in 3 weeks post op.
In between all that I had to have both my shoulders repaired (Rotator cuff and AC joint). Having that much going on in a 1.5 year span has actually caused me to be less active than I would like and about 6 months ago, I began to gain some weight. The dreaded 15%....it is very frustrating and although I am working on it. For me that is nearly 20lbs.....I still look fantastic but that weight gain is freaking me out and the worst is....it is not so easy to lose it as it once was.
If I can drop 15lbs.....I do plan to have 2 more procedures. My butt is completely flat and looks like a sharpe dog, and my thighs need a lot of work, especially where everything droops around my knees. My surgeon is suggesting finishing my abdominalplasty on the back side which ultimately will result in a lower body lift, she would then get the fat from my legs and use it to lift my butt as a part of that first surgery. Then 6 months later I would have a thigh lift as my last procedure.
I have not decided for sure if I want to go through more and I certainly wont do anything until I drop at least 15lbs, would like to drop 20. Of course the cost of doing all this work has been very expensive but worth every penny. I chose a surgical team that I had complete faith in and they have not disappointed me at all. The pain from plastics is pretty extreme and I am someone who has a very high pain tolerance and dont like to take pain meds. My plastic surgeon tells me I am the opposite of most....my arm lift was the most painful of all. I guess the abdominalplasty is supposed to be the most painful. I had my breasts done at the same time and I honestly think they were more painful than the Tummy Tuck. LOL...
My face was not painful at all. I think I took pain meds for 3 days total. That is more about ice packs.....
My TT and BL/A took the longest at nearly 10 total hours and I stayed in the hospital. My arm lift took over 6 hours and my facelift took 9 hours and was completed in a hospital not in the doctors office. Because I had such an extensive neck lift and an endoscopic brow lift, he knew I would get a better result if he used a general anesthetic. I was happy because there was no way I could last that long laying on a table while awake.

Anyway.....plastics has been awesome to me. I learned that the most important thing is finding a surgeon that you trust, and not to shop for price. You get what you pay for and what people fail to realize is that after care is critical. If you do any of this work, you are looking at hundreds/thousands of sutures in your body.....there will always be something that comes up that your surgical team will need to follow up on. Especially with weight loss surgery patients.

My doctor said I can wear a compression shirt instead of the binder. With no drains and no binder, I'm finally able to wear normal clothes. I did go a little nuts accumulating clothes. I bought about 13 shirts and 9 pair of pants along with 3 belts, 2 pair of shoes, new socks, and even a new wristband for my watch. Once I bought one color I needed another matching color and of course shoes and a belt to go with it. I'm still going to wear the binder when I'm not going out. It's only day two since the drain has been out and no seroma yet.

Could you share more about the reason your husband is not approved? GERD is often fixed with bypass, so I'm surprised that would be a reason not to do bypass.

And about smoking, has your husband considered quitting smoking? My surgeon was very strict that he does not do surgery on smokers. But he would if someone had quit.

That's sad news, but maybe it's not the end of the road. You can always try a second opinion. I switched surgeons midway, so don't give up hope.

woo woo reacted to Berry78 in B12 injections or pill?
Thanks for this post! I found out some stuff.
Basically, pill or sublingual should work (shots are good too..and necessary if you are already deficient).
The pill or sublingual needs to be 500 micrograms of hydroxocobalamin or methylcobalamin, taken in one or more doses through the day. (1x500 or 2x250, etc)
We only absorb 1/100 of the dose through passive absorption in the small intestine (5mcg out of a 500mcg dose), and our daily requirement is 3.5mcg.
Since we can store excess, if you forget your b-12 for a month, you'll be fine as long as you weren't deficient to start.
I looked at my vitamins.. 25mcg a day. 25/100=0.25mcg/day of the less readily absorbed cyanocobalamin. So, what should I do? Yup! Got to go Vitamin shopping! Thank goodness I had reserves!
