    Back In Stride !

I drove to the grocery store 2 days after the sleeve and walked the mall 5 days later. Our surgeon advised do not eat 3 meals a day and eat only when hungry, so missing meals should not be a problem. You will have bloodwork done to see how you are doing, at 4 weeks. I almost felt I had no surgery, there was no pain. Also had a hernia repair. Sounds like you are doing great. I always keep liquids with me - other than that I can head out for the day with little or nothing. Take care! Linda

    Time off of work?

Honestly? LOL. I was in the hospital less than 24 hours, also had hernia repair, took one dose of Hydrocodone when I got home, drove to the grocery store and walked around 2 days later. Shopped the mall 5 days later. I could have been at my job in ? 4 days, but just retired lol. I am 68 and I hope you have it as easy as I did. Just do not lift anything. Good luck!

    Am I a canidate I have two co-morbiditie

Have you talked to a surgeon? They can tell you. Do you have insurance? That makes a difference. Find a seminar in your area and talk to a surgeon and his staff. Good luck!!

    Spicy foods question

I put hot sauce on my refried Beans about 2 months post sleeve. We must have 50 bottles of HOT sauces in our house. We do not eat peppers other than Jalapenos and Poblanos, but the hot sauces are our condiments!

    Frustrated

Tell me why you did this. Only you know. I did the sleeve, with my husband, to have a life before we died. Scared, hell yeah! But diabetes, asthma, HBP, joint replacement, sleep apnea, swollen ankles, inability to walk, gasping for breath, scared us more. It has worked. After spending the first year of my retirement in a recliner, I did not want to die in that chair. We are 67/68 and we have lost a total of 160 lbs, we are kayaking, swimming in our pool, boating, offshore fishing again, and just walked all over NOLA for 7 days. You may be suffering a little post sleeve anxiety. God Bless you and have faith that you did this for a good reason, to save your life. I wish I had found the sleeve before all the comorbidities. Hugs, Linda
  6. This thread needs to continue, on behalf of the victims of the misogynistic Omar, who is a predator, conman and frontman for a surgeon in Mexico. Omar is a professional at courting and seducing vulnerable women and thank God for the people who stepped forward, shared their experiences, and are behind this thread. Jerry Springer? I think not. You might think a woman in a bikini invites assault. Having been involved with rape victims many years in the Court system, I can tell you vehemently that it is very easy for women to be blamed. Par1959, I just take exception to Omar the Lover luring women to this doctor in Mexico.

2.5 weeks out feeling lost- HELP!

Our surgeon said: DO NOT eat 3 meals a day. Do not eat unless you are really hungry. Do not count calories, Proteins, carbs, sugar, just eat healthy. We have done that, focusing on proteins, until I was told I eat too much Protein 3 months post op. I keep no bread, Pasta, Cookies, sugar, or Snacks in the house. Then again I am blessed it is just my husband and I and we were both sleeved. Also, both of us are diabetic so that is a major reason not to keep those things from tempting us. Works for us!!! Good luck and whatever works for one will not work for another, and trust your doctor.

Sucks to be a Newbie and be considered Offensive

Amen! We had no x-rays but my husband and I both had hiatal hernias which were repaired when the sleeve was done. Most people here, I believe, have hernias, from many posts I have read. I was home from the hospital in less than 24 hours, and I took one dose of hydrocodone at home (liquid in a bottle). I had no pain, neither did my husband. I drive to the grocery store 2 days later, and walked at the mall 5 days later. You will be okay. The unknown is what is troubling, and my husband and I were very frightened, because of our age and our health. I felt like I was walking on eggshells waiting for something to go wrong, and it never did!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking back, it was a piece of cake, but it felt very scary at the time. We were taking pills as soon as we were home. Many. There are pill cutters to cut pills, and some (not all) pills can be crushed. Your surgeon can tell you which. We left the hospital never to take Metformin and l blood pressure medicine, both of us (lightened that load!). I took Source of Life Liquid Gold liquid Vitamin because I was scared of the big vitamin. I went back on the big vitamin pill at 6 months post op. My husband cut the big Bariatric Advantage vitamin in half with no problem. Hope this helps! Linda

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?

Good post Hawk. Your opinion matters and I needed a little humor today, lol! Personally I cancelled our 6 month appointment for follow up with the Nut because I could not get straight answers. I can guess as good as she can. I also could not get straight answers from other medical professionals concerning my husband's severe diabetic problems, and thanks to Bariatric Pal we did find more information during the process. Sometimes you have to trust your gut instinct that you are doing the right thing.

2.5 weeks out feeling lost- HELP!

There is a liquid Vitamin I have taken for a year called Source of Life Liquid Gold recommended by a natural pharmacist friend (bought online on Amazon, it lasted ? 3 months - big container). I could not take the big vitamins. Please get yourself on a vitamin regimen. You will begin losing hair, Fact of life and I am not trying to scare you. I have done everything right and lost hair to where I chopped it all off and bought a wig. But vitamin deficiency is not good so take notes with the responses and do the best you can. There is rhyme or reason to eating and drinking and you will find out in an Emergency Room. I got dehydrated and learned the hard way, Take all the responses here and get with your NUT and surgeon and get informed. Best wishes and take good care of yourself!!!!!
  11. We take the injections religiously for 8 months. I feel no different but feel they cannot hurt. Good luck. Linda
  12. Gosh, the answers are so different. Less than 24 hours in the hospital, one dose of pain med at home, at the grocery 2 days later (drove myself), shopped at the mall 5 days later. No nausea, just high on happiness but rested anyway. Never in 9 months have my husband and I had a problem with the sleeve. We are 68/67 years old, and down 100 lbs and 60 lbs. You will get tired of the liquids, the mush, the shakes, whatever....but we all did it and you will too. Just become an expert on your health and nutrition, and never ask someone here what should you do if you have a medical problem. Trust your gut instinct and call that surgeon! My best wishes to you! Linda
  13. I had no pain and nausea and was in hospital less than 24 hours. I wish everyone could be so lucky! Make sure she has adequate medical care before you leave. Did she have the leak test? Have you talked to the surgeon? I am so sorry to hear this and I know you are afraid, but I read this all the time and in a day or two things turn around 100%. Saying a prayer for her tonight. God Bless.

    Women critical of other women

Maybe not so much rude people ...................maybe just dumb. Smile, shake your head and move on. Avoid the negatives, focus on the positives. Don't dwell on stupid remarks. Instead, look for a post and be an inspiration to someone else and it will brighten your day to hear a heartfelt thank you. God Bless, Linda

    Hiya! Sleeved August 12th

Focus on the future and not the food. Popsicles, broth, popsicles broth lol! Thousands have been where you are LOL, and that is such a distant memory 9 months later. Just improvise, add spices, mush and puree. Do not get ahead of yourself with the food. This is a life changer, and the honeymoon period is over for me and I am now having to work really hard to try to lose more. But it is the best time for you so stay focused and keep busy, keep your mind off food. Take a walk, do anything. I am happier than ever in so many years and my life (and my husband) has changed drastically. Wishing you so much happiness.

    Dont be a b***h

There is another thread ongoing right now, and Shersun adds this to her post. I don't take anything personal unless it's a compliment. I am a lot older than most people here. I have been posting since ?October, 2013, and never met a bxxxx here. Please look at the number of posts I have made. I am opinionated (like your Grandma lol). I try to roll gently and give good, solid, and kind advice, and I probably target more older people because bariatric surgery can be a life or death matter for some, like my husband. This site is to build people up. Please do not take a few snarky posts and turn it into something. Bariatric Pal is the best thing going. In almost a year, I have seen two people stomp off and say I am done here. Well I can tell you it is their loss, because there are many kind and wonderful human beings here, committed to helping each other. I would not have it any other way here. I can tell you if I think you are hurting yourself if you ask me a question, and if you get mad that I said you should not do this, does that make me a bad person? Relax and make friends here. It is awesome!!!!!! Linda

    Pre op depression

Hello there! Well, I think that being women, we sometimes carry the weight of the world on our shoulders anyway. I can probably admit to some depression for a good portion of my life. I felt wonderfully happy prior to surgery, and after, I had a few emotional times, and cried for no reason. There are days I do not have to leave the house, but I am thankful I have a husband who recognizes that we need to go out sometimes. We have been traveling since May, and if it were not for being sleeved we would still be sitting......... I can tell you the sleeve will change your life. But not until you are ready. I would suggest if you do not have a significant other, try to find a positive person/friend and get out and about, shopping or doing something, even a walk in the park. I have been cleaning closets and the garage to keep myself up and moving. I am glad you are seeing someone. I really do not have the answers but I want to wish you the best. God Bless. Linda

New to the process - help?

Your doctor's office will tell you tomorrow. What you will learn here is that of the thousands of members on Bariatric Pal, each of us have different doctors, different eating plans, insurance requirements, tests, pre-op classes, nutritionists, psych appointments, but once you get the ball rolling it moves quickly. Best wishes as you go through the process. Listen, learn, read, ask questions and get prepared! Happy for you!

Sucks to be a Newbie and be considered Offensive

Shersun, I like your I don't take anything personal unless it's a compliment. I have had to learn to get a little thick skinned here and put my tender little feelings aside, and it has helped me greatly here. I need Bariatric Pal in my life!

Sucks to be a Newbie and be considered Offensive

No need to apologize here, just move on! I have learned to do that here, sometimes we just say something and boom, it hits a nerve with someone. My husband and I were both sleeved, and it has truly changed our lives. We were terrified of the unknown, but the alternative was sitting in our recliners dying by not being able to do anything. There is a lot of support here. You will be able to contribute to help someone else so hang in here, Life will be sooooooo good!

    eating too much?

After the sleeve, our surgeon said: 1) Do not eat 3 meals a day. 2) Do not eat unless you are really hungry 3) Do not count Proteins, calories, fats, etc 4) just eat Healthy. We have abided by the rules and are are happy with the results. We are 67/68, so it might be our age, but I can tell you, even though we cannot jog, run, exercise, and swim through the mud, we are still happy! We are climbing stairs, kayaking, walking, swimming, and one year ago we could barely move. Different strokes for different folks! Good luck everyone as you find your way.

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?

Relax, not judging you! Life is good! I am far from perfect and I know I got a bit snide at times. But I guarantee 97% of my 1,781 posts have been helpful and encouraging with the exception of one thread I have gotten really upset about some wrongdoing. Sometimes Hopeful I think we can get caught up in the haters' rants, and we all know we cannot make everyone happy. Just stay with us, relax, and cheer the best you can, and when someone is ranting, try to find the positive or leave the topic. This is working for me!!!!
