January 2013 I made a promise to myself to finally get fit. I had been heavy all of my life but things finally came to a boiling point when I weighed in at 391. I realized I was less than ten pounds away from the big 400. Not only did my weight spiral out of control my health did as well. I had always been heavy but didn't have any other existing health issues. When I received my bloodwork results I learned that I had become a type 2 diabetic. I had also developed Edema, which is a painful swelling on my ankle.I also learned that I was vitamin D deficient, had thyroid problems and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I was 28 and had a list of health problems. It was the slap in the face I needed!

I joined a surgical weight loss program which required a six month commitment before surgery per my insurance requirements. During the six months I worked on my diet and exercise as well as with a team of doctors, psychologists and dieticians. After a rough six months my surgery finally came. I lost 42 pounds but it was not enough to have the gastric by-pass performed safely so my doctor performed the sleeve. I trusted her decision and was so happy to have had a safe, successful surgery.

I was in a lot of pain post-op but with the grave of God and the patience and love of my wonderful family I was home and on my feet within a few days. I am only 1 week and five days post-op and add almost healed.I've lost 20 pounds in less than two weeks! It feels wonderful.

I have lots of food cravings but I'm learning to power thru them. Getting stronger everyday. :-)
