I fail to see where Iggy has been a bully at all.
Yes, she has an opinion of the surgery that is tainted by her experience, but I believe all our experiences have influenced our opinions.
Yes, she posts her views often. There is nothing keeping anybody from posting about their experiences right along side of hers.
Really, the only limitations placed on these type of posts are basic common courtesy. Things like don't personally attack each other & don't be offensive just to get a reaction. I will admit, I am a bit partial to Iggy, partially because I was here to witness the hardship she went through, and see how level headed & non judgmental she remained as she was going hrough the whole ordeal. And really, if I would have gone through 1/2 of what she did, I'd be telling anybody that even considered WLS that it's the worst decision they could make.
Fortunately for me, my experience was quite the opposite, as is true for most of he people here. The overwhelming majority of us have had great experiences, it's not Iggy's fault if we don't say it enough.
I come here and support people in their decisions. As do most people that are more than a couple months post op.
I ask of everybody, if you believe this forum has an overbearing dark feeling to it, bring in some light. Tell your good stories. If someone tells of a bad experience, put yourself in their shoes for a minute, and ask yourself how you would act if you had their experience. Attacking someone for posting advice based on their bad experience is not going to make this a better place, it will simply push more people away.
Here is another thing to consider. This forum needs people like Iggy. Without her, or other people like her, what would we have? A forum full of positivity? Absolutely not. We'd have a site that anybody coming here would think s a contrived promotional tool. Showing the good & the bad together is a big part of what lends validity to our little community here.
I truly hope we can all just accept each other for who we are, and let go of whatever animosity we might be holding within.
This is a great place to come to, and it will continue to be.

I'm amazed that any newbie would ever feel comfortable posting in this childish and hostile environment. Really, people. Can't you keep your personal animosity to a minimum?
As for the repeated insistence that the OP is a fake for only posting once, why one earth would the OP post here regularly? Did anyone read the original post? The OP didn't have a sleeve. Why on earth would a family member of someone choosing surgery be an active poster on a forum for a surgery they aren't having? I can tell you, my mom isn't hanging out on VST. Try not to dismiss her off the bat if she shows up one day and posts once!
I do not agree with everything iggychic says but she has EVERY right as a patient that has had surgery to share her experiences, positive or negative. Whether or not I agree with her approach every time simply does not matter. The same goes for anyone else. As I said before negative feedback is VALUABLE because complications DO happen. Do not expect that the 1% that experience them are going to be thrilled that it happened, regardless of whether or not they knew it was a possibility.
If you want sunshine and rainbows all the time the real world is not a place for you. If you weight your value in life by the number of people that "like" you in a public forum or on a social website, you might have a reason to be so offended when people disagree or have conflicting opinions. But for crying out loud, nobody's value or worth is determined by those things, regardless of what they think.
In any case, as we don't have a post from the person that chose to undergo surgery, we don't know how she felt. The reality is that her family could be devastated but she could feel that she knew it was a risk. She could also be angry and resentful. We don't know, because she didn't post. But attacking the OP for sharing a story, even if the method wasn't ideal is ridiculous. I've had my comments watched or topics locked for possibly offending people and making them scared to post. The way this entire thread has de-evolved is exactly what I think the moderators are trying to avoid. I'm certain it'll be locked shortly.
People disagree and not everyone words things the same ways. We don't need to revert to our kindergarten selves when it happens. We can still be adults about it, can't we?

Ok people. I've just read this entire thread, and came to the following conclusion: spending pages attacking someone's comments you deem to be judgmental is JUST as judgmental as you think those comments may be. If people would just give their own advice, and not comment on someone else's, no matter how you feel about it, it wouldn't turn into a flame war. Just my 2 cents.

Way too much salt! Sorry girl. It's going to be hard enough to stay hydrated immediately post op without adding tons of salt to your diet.

I made no presumptions in my post - I stated clearly my thoughts. You are the one who made presumptions. I mention nothing of tough love. You are not the respect police or the forum FBI. Forum hypocrite, maybe. You see, you seek constructive comments as long as they are written in the way you want them written. However, we all do not share your brain, so if someone has a different constructive comment than your own, then you will just have to deal with it. Nobody is going to change how they post just because you say so. I know I certainly will not.

I am 5'9 and would love to be 190. I haven't been 190 since before high school. I have 150 pounds to lose to reach that goal. That number seems so huge--that's another freaking person! Mostly, I want to lose 100 pounds and get closer to a healthy me. I will keep evaluating my progress as I go and keep on trying. Good luck to you!

I hate when others love to remind us that people who get WLS gain the weight back. And? That's life. Right, wrong, or indifferent we make mistakes. I'm morbidly obese so I see it as I can either take a risk and use this surgery as a tool to help me get on the right path and make better choices for myself. If I gain weight back---I will have to start all over again just as I would if I didn't have the surgery. So it is better for me to try to lose weight on my own, fail, then give up and hate myself?
I hope I remain successful once I get the surgery. But I see it as a 2nd chance at life not a cop out or the easy way out.
