  1. I had my surgery in the states as my insurance paid for it. One of my friends did not have insurance that would cover he rsurgery,so she went to Dr Aceves in Mexicali. She did wonderfully. She and I are both RN's and her opinion of the hospital was top notch. Much cleaner than US hospitals. They gave her all her records and 2 days after surgery she was walking, and feeling great. I am very impressed with her care and her comfort level. She seemed to recover much faster than I did.

    August sleevers progress

I will be at 6 months on the 21st of feb. I have lost 80 pounds, and have gone from a 22-24 to a size 12 jean and a large top. I put on all my pre fat clothes and my thin suits fit. In fact a suit that was snug when I was"thin " before, is now way too big. My exercise is spotty, so today I walked 3 miles without difficulty. I am going to do a 5 k at the end of March. Walking is so much easier 80 pounds lighter. One of my friends just had the sleeve in Mexico last week. She was inspired by my success. Only one thing bugs me. I can eat about a cup of food at a sitting now. I guess should be happy, I used to eat heaping plates of food probably at least 4 cups of food before But I wish I could only eat 3/4 of a cup and be full. I do not want to get heavy again.
  3. I am 62 , had my gastric sleeve surgery a week after my 62nd birthday. I wish this surgery was done when i was younger but so glad I did it. Leaks are fixable. Weight that you have carried around forever is so hard to lose, and really bad for your health. I would not hesitate to have this surgery again.I am currently down 75 pounds and feeling great about my weight loss. I love not obsessing about food either.

    August sleevers progress

I noticed that weight loss is slowing down quiet a bit. Where I used to see 5 pounds gone a week, now I see only 1 pound. No real change to eating except added Almonds as snacks, but still keep calories under 900 a day protein above 60. Water 60 oz a day or more. So maybe we should all look at the fact we are 5 months out and we have all lost a lot of weight and our bodies are adjusting. I am also thinking we need to up our calories for about a week to reset our metabolisms so it can reve up a bit. I am scared to try it as I think might gain some weight, but if you stay on low calories long enough your body adjust to the low calories and goes into save weight mode. I am wondering if anyone who is down the road a bit longer than us Aug. sleevers might shed some light on this slow down phenonmena. I am now down 75 pounds in 5 months. Today is the 5 month anniversary of my new stomach. Only 35 more pounds to go.

    August sleevers progress

I find different days I can eat different amounts. Some days I can hold 1/2 cup of food. some days 3/4 c of food. Also different foods make a difference to the amount. Sat. I tried to eat 6 ounces of mahimahi, almost threw up. 4 oz of fish is all I can eat. Yogurt I can eat 6 oz.. My calories are between 700-900 60-70 grams of protein. I do not count carbs, but drink about 64 ounces a day. Sophiepants, I am 5'6" too down 73 pounds as of tuesday. I do not use MFP. It is too long to use. I keep everything in a journal, which I carry everywhere with me. I like being accountable for what I eat.

I should clarify my stats, starting weight at home pre op was 246 but they forgot to weigh me preop in the hospital, after fluids and surgery in the hospital, first day post op I weighed 254 so somehow that is what my profile reads. I consider 246 my starting pre op weight. Barb

Wow Sophiepants and Will, I am really jealous. I was sleeved on 8/21/13 and have lost 72 pounds, my Dr says I am ahead of the curve but you two are phenomenal! I know we all lose at our own rate, but you two are superstars. I am an older girlie, 62 going on 15, and it is true as we age it gets harder to lose. I wish this surgery was available when I was in my 20's or 30's. would have saved me tons of weight loss grief. But so happy I had it done. Lets all hope we see our goals in this new year. Now a 177.5 lb Barb, only 30-40lbs more to goal.

    Anxiety and Irritability

I am having the same exact feelings happening to me. I am also on a low dose effexor, but find myself angry and short with people, especially my boyfriend of 26 years. I yelled at my best friend the other day granted she was rude, but I usually handle rudness with rational talk not yelling. I think it is because I do not have the food to mellow me out like I used to do. I used food to stuff my feelings. Now what do we do. I want to take up boxing to get my aggression out safely. I do not want to be a mean person.

    Hair Loss

Please if anyone has gone through this loss of hair and has help, share your success. I am losing hair in huge handfuls. 4 months and 1 week out and it started about 3 weeks ago. At this rate if it doesn't stop I will be bald.in about 4 more months. Help.
  10. I have worked 12 hour shifts for the last 6 years. I used to eat non stop, now after the sleeve( Aug, 21,2013- down 63 pounds) I pack 2-3 low fat greek yogurts, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 4-6 ounces of Protein to split during shift ( tuna, chicken, turkey, cheese), decaf tea, high protein chicken Soup from unjury . I keep forgetting breath mints, or sugar free gum. but at the end of a shift surely need that too. Best thing I ever did in weight loss, was this surgery.
  11. We will all mess up at some time or another. The sleeve slowed you down.It worked. Now you need to realize how bad eating made you feel, and realize that crappy food was not worth it.You have done amazing work with your weight loss and will continue. This time of the year is the worst, too much food screaming our names, saying eat me. It is so hard at times to say no, it causes me to be grouchy and irritable. It would be easier to eat the food and maybe the irritation would go away, but the price of feeling so guilty and bad, like you are doing now, is not worth it. Own that feeling and learn from it. You had the surgery to lose the weight and you are almost where you want to be, this is just a hiccup in your losing weight time. Back to the plan. Having Protein and keeping the correct eating feels so much better than a plate of cold greasy food. I know that for sure. I suspect you are back on track, you have lost so much weight, and will be at goal in just a short time. Keep your eyes on the goal, and I bet you will be 37 pounds less, in just a few more months.

    August sleevers progress

Hi was sleeved 8/21/13 weight was 246, went up to 254 in hospital due to fluids. Current weight as of last thursday 3 month anniversary 194 so I have lost 52 pounds in 3 months, not counting the water weight from post op, if I did ,would be down 60lbs . My Dr says I am above his curve, meaning I have lost more than he expected for my pre op size.Yay. Now waiting to be down another 25 lbs, my next goal loss.
  15. Mouse I was exactly like you I felt there was very little restriction. However I am now 3 months out and my restriction seems to be working full force now. It seems as as time goes on I get more restriction. I have a hard time with 4 ounces of soft fish now, where as before no problem. I hope yours works like mine. I am down 51 pounds in 3 months and my Dr says I am above the curve in loss. Yay.
  16. Gamer girl I take 1/4 pumpking and 6oz sugar free greek vanilla yogurt, mix the two add pumpkin spice and voila a thick pumpkin cheescake pudding. It is doing it for me right now when I think about pumpkin pie. I am going to add that bit of SF whipped topping for a littel extra sweetness. Sounds like it might make it a bit richer. Thanks for the tip.
  17. The cravings are not like they used to be. I wanted Movie popcorn, I ate 1 cup and did not want any more, where before I would eat an extra large by myself. I also found it not as satifsying as I used to find the taste. I want frozen yogurt and have made a deal with myself that at 50 pound loss I can have some frozen yogurt. Now I have to share with you all that my portion size used to be around $9 that is at 45 cents per ounze. A lot of frozen yogurt, no toppings. I am thinking a small amount will satisfy my craving for the frozen stuff,Maybe 6oz. I hope it will not be a trigger food that will try and spin me out of my diet orbit, but like the popcorn I hope it will be something I eat and think nice, but not as good as losing weight.
  18. Gamergirl, I woke up feeling better today so I am hoping that the increased D vit, is going to be the help I need. Believe it or not I only take tylenol or Ibuprofen for my really bad flareups. I failed on all the others. So I gut it out most flare ups with just conventional over the counter meds. Yesterday's flare up was a doozy, but today I feel better. I did also take a walk which maybe made me feel better(even if I limped along). I have a curious type of Fibro which is only really bad enough to whine about 2-3 months out of the year, the rest of the time the pain, I perceive, is mild 3-4 on a 1- 10 scale, so I just keep moving. Yesterday was a 10+. I also remember someone, maybe you, posting about having pain after losing weight. Its like all my joints are loose and my bones seem to be clicking in places they never clicked before. I think an adjustment by a DO is in order. I think you are right a trip to the DR is in order.
  19. I have fibromyalgia and it has been horrible the last 3 weeks. I can barely walk and the headaches are non stop. I was wondering if my loss of 48 pounds in 3 months has caused the increased pain, but reading this topic I am wondering if it is a lack of vit. D. I am going to try to up my dose and see if things improve. I am so tired of not feeling good. I can not even walk, which I really enjoy.
  20. I tried that Olive Garden Salmon could only eat 1/3 of it and next day gave the rest to my honey. I just did not like the taste. Maybe it was not the amount but the bad tasting, salty, salmon they served.

    Hungry?

I think it took me time to figure it out. Is it really a cup or a 4 oz cup you buy in the store? Somethings slide down fast and easy. I could hold a whole 6 oz of yogurt in the beginning but give me a piece of chicken and it is only 2-3 oz and I am full. I hope it works this way for you too.
  22. Maybe I waited too long .but no nausea , just the slimes. Then no other problems.
  23. Ok anyone know what this is about? I am 3 months post op in one week. Have not had slimes since 2nd day home from hospital. This morning coming home from my night shift I started having the slimes. I had not eaten in 4 hours and only had greek yogurt 5 0Z. I conquered the slimes and went home.It was just the strangest thing one minute fine and then watering mouth for about 30-50 seconds. Anyone had the slimes when not full?
  24. Gamer girl and Husband, a big AZ Woohoo to both of you. Amazing job. You both look great.. You are inspirations to us all.
  25. I wonder if it is a 3 month thing Miss Erika, I am approaching my 3 month date and I am really not wanting protein in meat form either. I am by nature a vegetarian, hating beef, the way it taste. I want to throw up,Thank goodness for Vegiburgers. Nuts scare me, one nut leads to many nuts, I am afraid nuts are a trigger food for binge. In the mean time, until the protein aversion goes away, I will be having a nutitious greek yogurt. Yum Yum
