Scylla got a reaction from Ginger Snaps in Costco shake prices?
I saw my NUT last week and have been drinking the Premier Protein drinks. I love them so! But she told me they are not the best Protein shake around because they are not 100% whey Protein. She said that because of the inferior sources of protein you are probably only absorbing 10 grams of protein (as opposed to the 30 grams on the label). That was a huge wakeup call to me! Anyone else hear anything like that from their NUT?

Ground chicken or Ground Turkey- You can make burgers, chili's, Soups, meatballs, meatloaf, taco's, lettuce wraps. You can make "spaghetti" by roasting spaghetti squash and making a meat sauce or meatballs with the ground chicen or turkey.
chicken breast are ususally on sale every week. Buy the family pack, divide into 4oz servings either cook at once or freeze indiv. You can do sooooo many things with chicken breasts. Throw some in a crockpot (even frozen) with some taco seasoning, a jar or salsa, black Beans, cilantro, lime juice, or whatever you lke, put it on before you go to work come home shred it and have a taco salad or a tacos.
Omelets- Cook some low sod. bacon or turkey bacon add in some fresh spiniach, mushrooms and onions. Top with a little cheese and some plain non-fat greek yogurt and/or salsa
Or you could do mini egg muffins with the same ingred, as above put them in a (12) muffin pan and bake for 20-30 min at 350. These are the perfect make a head Breakfast. Grab, warm, eat:-)
Deli Meat- Turkey or Chicken rolled up in Romaine lettuce leaves and a slice of cheese with some mustard or lite mayo, or Okios greek yogurt dip
    For Snacks,
Dannon Light Greek Yogurt- 100 cal 13g Protein
    1-2oz of cheese
depending on my calorie intake and Protein for the day I may add in a Quest Protein Bar, approx 180 cal and 20g p
    cottage cheese with tomatoes
cucumbers soaked in apple cider vinegar with onions....summer thing:-)
Raw cauliflower with Okios Greek Yogurt Dip
60 cal. sugar fee pudding cup

    1) If you search on disboards.com, there a loads of people who have traveled after bariatric surgery and have good tips.
    2) allears.net has menus for every restaurant (counter service or not) that can help you plan where some good choices are for you. I think they (and maybe disneyfoodblog.com) have sections on lo-carb and south beach diets that would be helpful as well!
    3) Some ideas off the top of my head for each park:
Animal kingdom: Flame Tree BBQ has a 1/2 chicken meal or chicken salad
Magic Kingdom: Columbia Harbor House has a salmon entree with couscous and broccoli. Also a really good tuna sandwich if you don't eat the bread
Epcot: Tangerine Cafe has a chicken or lamb shwarma plate with hummus that is pretty good. There's a ton of crazy healthy options at the Sunshine Seasons food court
Hollywood Studios: I hate eating in this park, not a ton of options. The sandwiches at the Starring Rolls Cafe are good, if you picked them apart. Read through the menus and see what you can find.
We go fairly often to either Disneyland or WDW, but our next trip isn't until February. I hope you have an awesome time!

((Sharon)) I'm sorry to hear that your friend is being so unaccepting and unsupportive. It sounds like she doesn't know much about the surgery if she's calling it "cosmetic surgery." Maybe you could send her some links and attept to educate her?
I don't know if you have any co-morbities, but if you do you could tell her that the reason you are having the surgery is because of your health issues--not (only) because you want to be thinner. That's how it was for me. Sure, I'd like to be thin, but first and foremost I would like my high blood pressure and arthritis pain to decrease.
I was sleeved only about 5 weeks ago, so it is pretty new to me. I chose to tell very few people about it, as I suspected a few of my longtime friends would act similarly (mostly because they don't want to be the fattest of our group of friends, which I always was). The only people who know are my immediate family (mom, husband, kids, brother and his wife), my boss and two colleagues/friends who I trust implicitly, and three other close friends. Everyone else just thinks I had gall bladder removal surgery. I DID have that at the same time as the VSG, but no one else needs to know about the VSG part.

My surgeons office and nutritionist say that the first ingredient in the Protein supplement needs to say - whey protein isolate.

Tamara, have you followed up with your surgeon's office or NUT recently? Maybe a visit with them will help get you back on the right track.
I'm newly sleeved, so the information is fresh in my mind, but my surgeon's rules are 3 meals a day and nothing in between except for Protein shakes if you are not getting in your Protein. Also, no alcohol. I know a lot of people do imbibe after they are sleeved, but I know in the past drinking has definitely affected my diet inhibitions! It caused me to throw caution out the window and just eat whatever I felt like. I don't want to go back there, so I don't plan to go back to drinking at all. Plus, alcoholic beverages are just empty calories. I'd rather eat my calories!

Unfortunately your friend is the type of person why i don't tell a lot of people that i had surgery, People are ignorant when it comes to Gastric bypass. They think its so we can be thin and that we are doing it for vanity reasons. i started out at 336 and am now 7 months post op at 206. i can actually play with my kids now. that was the major reason i had surgery among other heath issues that were starting to pile up. Your "friend" needs an education about the surgery, although judging from the blog she posted she is very closed minded and regards her opinion above yours about it. Try to educate her. If she still wants to cut ties with you because you want to get healthy then its her choice. Some people just want to remain ignorant in order to back, and further their own agenda.

At the risk of sounding a bit brash...f**k your "friend". She sounds as if she's dealing with her own "fat acceptance" issues. You don't need those kind of people in your life. She's selfish. She created a whole blog post about YOUR surgery and made it about HER feelings. She doesn't care about you. She was never a friend. Cut that dead weight loose now. You'll feel much lighter when you do.

Hello! I'm a newbie here but I am part of the 200#'s to lose club also.
I've always struggled with my weight and had my first Weight Watchers experience when I was 11.
Ive dieted over and over again and always gained my weight back plus more.
My heaviest was 415. It was a horrible day when I saw that number on the scale at the doctors office. I had let myself go to the point of constant pain and 15 pills a day. Something had to change.
So far, after a lot of struggle, I am down to 360 and am finally starting my classes on July 3rd.
Thank you for starting this thread, I like knowing there are others out there that are in the same boat.

I am 5 months out - I have had pizza, but never a whole slice. I can't tolerate that much.
Here's what I do instead of doughy pizza from a pizza shop - I take a Carb Balance Tortilla shell, top with pizza sauce, pepperoni and fresh mozzarella cheese. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until done.
Seriously - it's a great thin crust pizza. My husband requests this pizza often. I also make one with BBQ Sauce and chicken, then top with cheese.
    It's a nice alternative.

Scylla got a reaction from WhoKnows in How many grams of carbs should/can I eat?
Veggies are not the carbs you need to worry about. Most veggies (except for corn, peas and potatoes) are pretty low carb.
I did Atkins for 18 months and lost over 100 lbs., but you can never really get to 0 carbs. Generally, under 40 carbs a day is considered low carb. Atkins induction (the first phase) is 20 grams of carbs per day.

I think the reason people post the same question over and over is they want to express their feelings/frustrations/joys and want a personalized response.
I'm guilty of that myself--I posted something about a 3 week stall yesterday. I did search beforehand, and voraciously read a good number of threads about stalls. I didn't feel that it was appropriate to just add my post as a reply to someone else's prior post.
