  1. I had my surgery on 4/23. I was 314.4 the day of surgery, and was 304 at my 2 week checkup, so I lost 10 lbs. in 2 weeks. I am now 302 at just over 3 weeks out. I am doing all the right things, exercising, measuring my food, not overeating and I feel like I should be losing more with the small amount of calories I am consuming and the moderate exercise I have been doing. While I am happy for other sleevers' success and fast losses, I am getting really down when I see posts from people who had surgery around the same time I did talking about losing double digit pounds in a week, losing a pound a day, etc. I am 44, so maybe it's because I'm older. I told my bariatric coordinator of my concerns and she said that I've been on medically supervised weight loss since September and did a 30 day liquid Protein diet before surgery. She thinks the folks who are posting those huge losses probably did not. She said she used to see big losses like that in their practice before they started requiring a pre-op diet. I don't know what to think, but I hope that if this is a stall that it breaks soon!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

I think the reason people post the same question over and over is they want to express their feelings/frustrations/joys and want a personalized response. I'm guilty of that myself--I posted something about a 3 week stall yesterday. I did search beforehand, and voraciously read a good number of threads about stalls. I didn't feel that it was appropriate to just add my post as a reply to someone else's prior post.

    Exercise for disabled?

There are a bunch of highly rated chair exercise DVDs on amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=chair+exercise+DVD&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Achair+exercise+DVD
  4. As others have said, my reasons for choosing the sleeve were that my intestines would not need to be re-routed, that the hunger hormone ghrelin would be removed, and that I wouldn't have malabsoption issues with the sleeve. I would argue that your surgeon's opinion is not IT. You are the patient and the boss and the decision on what surgery to have is ultimately yours. You should take his or her recommendations seriously, however.
  5. Thanks for the comments, everyone. You've all made some very good points. I think I am going to move my scale to my basement bathroom--I don't go in there very much and won't have to stare at it every time I use the bathroom! I don't need that little black raincloud ruining my day and messing with my head!
  6. I take a chewable bariatric multivitamin by Twinlab, 3 chewable Citracal Plus a day and one sublingual B12 a day. I got them all at drugstore.com.

    Slim fast

The high Protein Slim Fast was one of my options on my pre-op diet. It is definitely better tasting than some of the others!
  8. I am 3.5 weeks out. I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. 10 days out you should be on full liquids and almost getting ready to move on to pureed foods. I think you should give your surgeon's office a call and let them know that you are not able to stomach anything but Water at this point. Best of luck to you!

    3.5 weeks post op...not losing

I am 3.5 weeks post-op also. You are losing way more than I am! I lost 10 lbs. in the first two weeks and 2 lbs. since my 2 week checkup, for a grand total of 12! I'm taking in an average of 600-700 calories a day. It just doesn't add up, considering that I am measuring my food, getting all my Protein, getting all my Water in, taking my Vitamin supplements, doing a lot of walking. I agree - results on the scale are a huge motivator. I am very disheartened right now.

16 days out and back in the ICU

How scary! I hope they can bust that clot quickly and get you back to normal ASAP! Best wishes for a quick recovery!

    11/2 week stall already?

From what I've read, yes. I was sleeved on 4/23. I lost 12 lbs. in the first two weeks and then nothing since! Must be the dreaded stall. Anyway, I know I'm not eating too much so I will just weight myself once a week so I don't give myself a complex!

    Zoloft?

50 mg is actually the lowest dose. i took it for depression a few years ago but had to switch because of the sexual side effects. Wellbutrin worked much better for me and doesnt have that evil side effect. Good luck!

    Facebook boo-boo....

Depending on the privacy settings of the FB group you belong to even if you are posting on a group's page, it still could show up in your friends' feed. I noticed this when a friend posted a question to a heart defibrillator support group he is in and it showed up in MY feed. Now I am much more careful about what I post in those FB groups unless the settings are "Secret."
  14. Interesting. I had my gallbladder out when I was sleeved on 4/23 and I haven't had liquid poops at all!

    Starting puree today.

Thanks for your concern, Shelly. I'm not going to est something I shouldn't. I wad just commiserating with the OP. I am well acquainted wit Liz, Christine and Marisa, my nutritionist.

    Starting puree today.

I totally know what you mean! I am hungry CONSTANTLY. Full liquids just isn't cutting it! I get to move to purees on 5/8. I have been tempted to eat something I shouldn't, but I am deathly afraid of eating something I'm not supposed to and having an adverse effect/harming my sleeve.

    Starting puree today.

You'd need to put it in a blender and add liquid to make it the consistency of baby food. Egg salad and chicken salad as they usually are would fall into the "soft foods" category.
  18. Same here. my surgeon removes the gall bladder if you already have evidence of stones. Otherwise, he prescribes bile salts for 6 months.

    Things I won't miss...

I won't miss: 4X clothing Seat belt extenders on planes Having to sit next to my thinnest child on planes so I can spill over into his personal space Having to stand at school open houses and parent teacher conferences because I don't fit in the student desks Not being able to go to concerts and sporting events because I can't fit in the seats or can't stand foe extended periods of time Not being able to join my family on biking and kayaking adventures Not being able to keep up with my family on vacations to Disney World

    Any April Sleevers?

No offense, but that is what people with eating disorders do. Not a good strategy!

    April 23- Sleevers

I'm doing well. I'm on full liquids and have tolerated everything fine so far. drinking 2 Protein drinks between meals and trying to drink and much Water as possible. no nausea since the 2nd day when i needed a dose of Zofran. Dealing with quite a bit of head hunger, which sucks.
  24. Hi everyone! At long last, and after nearly 8 months of jumping through the required hoops and doing medically supervised weight loss I finally got my surgery date-- April 23! I will be having the sleeve and a lap chole (gall bladder removal) at the same time. Depending on what my surgeon says the day of surgery I might also be having my umbilical hernia repaired.

    April 23 sleever!

Hi everybody! I was sleeved on 4/23. Everything was "a piece of cake" according to my surgeon--no surprises, other than the fact that I had a HUGE gall stone that was about half the size of a golf ball! (they took my gall bladder out, too). I was prepared, but I didn't have any of the shoulder pain and only had a little bit of nausea my 2nd day in the hospital, but anti-nausea meds took care of that. Still have abdominal pain, but it is definitely getting less and less. Only had to take one Norco this morning. I am on full liquids now (3rd day - 14th day post op) It is nice to have some soupy oatmeal or cream of wheat for Breakfast. It felt like such a treat! My kids were shocked that basically 2 tablespoons made me totally full. LOL Doing my best to make sure I am drinking a lot of Water and also drinking water mixed with Syntrax nectar Roadside Lemonade Protein powder. Kinda reminds me of Crystal Lite and has the benefits of protein. I hope all of my 4/23 sleeve-versary friends are doing well!
