    Terrible hair Loss

100 grams a day is an awful lot! Mine said 60-80.
  2. I went to the informational seminar in August, had to jump through a bunch of hoops and finally had my surgery in late April. It cost $500 plus the copays for various doctors visits. All told, about $750.
  3. My surgeon recommended Peri-Colace, which is available over the counter.
  4. I was sleeved about 5 weeks ago. I haven't had any cravings yet, but I did deal with a lot of "head hunger" the first two weeks or so (when I was on liquids and full liquids. Now that I am eating soft foods I have much better satiety and haven't had any head hunger at all. I had a restriction where I could not lift more than a gallon of milk (about 8 lbs.) for a month after surgery. Now that that time has passed, I am back to going to the gym for cardio and strength training. Right after surgery, my doctor encouraged me to walk a lot.

    Any April Sleevers?

Same surgery date and been stalled about 2 weeks since the 3rd week and now goin into my 5th week, I started meeting my Protein and today, another 2 lbs down. Good luck to u.. Hi ladies! Same surgery date, and same stall! Finally after more than 2 weeks my weight dropped 2 lbs. this week. I saw my NUT on Thursday and told her I was not really happy with the weight loss I have been having. She calculated it out and said I have been losing an average of 3.5 lbs a week (and apparently the average loss is 2-3), so I guess I'm doing pretty well. I had to turn in 4 days of food logs and she thought my diet was great. I have been getting in all of my Water and protein pretty consistently.

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining

We are planning a trip to Disney in November, 2015 (I know---far off, but we have a cruise in July and another cruise in March for spring break!). We usually stay on Disney property and have gotten free Disney Dining the past two times we've gone. Disney dining is great (especially when it's free), but I think we may end up renting a vacation home this time and just going light and ala carte in the Disney parks. I would feel so wasteful getting all that food on the Disney dining plan and only being able to eat a small amount of it.

    Protein bars

I have only tried the Quest CCCD Protein bars so far, but they are great! 21 grams of quality protein, very filling and delicious!

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining

Not sure if you are gone already, but I just saw your post. I totally agree with MelBrooks' post above. There are some good healthy counter options. My favorites at WDW are Tangierine Cafe (in Morocco at Epcot) and Sunshine Seasons (in The Land at Epcot). Delicious and healthy food! I also agree with MelBrooks that Hollywood Studios does not have many good options. The best healthy option we found was the 1/2 chicken meal at Fairfax Fare.
  9. Today I packed: 1 Quest Nutrition Protein bar 1 Light & Fit Greek yogurt >1/2 cup chicken salad

    Costco shake prices?

I saw my NUT last week and have been drinking the Premier Protein drinks. I love them so! But she told me they are not the best Protein shake around because they are not 100% whey protein. She said that because of the inferior sources of protein you are probably only absorbing 10 grams of protein (as opposed to the 30 grams on the label). That was a huge wakeup call to me! Anyone else hear anything like that from their NUT?
  11. ((Sharon)) I'm sorry to hear that your friend is being so unaccepting and unsupportive. It sounds like she doesn't know much about the surgery if she's calling it "cosmetic surgery." Maybe you could send her some links and attept to educate her? I don't know if you have any co-morbities, but if you do you could tell her that the reason you are having the surgery is because of your health issues--not (only) because you want to be thinner. That's how it was for me. Sure, I'd like to be thin, but first and foremost I would like my high blood pressure and arthritis pain to decrease. I was sleeved only about 5 weeks ago, so it is pretty new to me. I chose to tell very few people about it, as I suspected a few of my longtime friends would act similarly (mostly because they don't want to be the fattest of our group of friends, which I always was). The only people who know are my immediate family (mom, husband, kids, brother and his wife), my boss and two colleagues/friends who I trust implicitly, and three other close friends. Everyone else just thinks I had gall bladder removal surgery. I DID have that at the same time as the VSG, but no one else needs to know about the VSG part.

    Stomach Bruising

I had a lot of bruising also, and mostly where I had been given Heparin injections. I'm 5 weeks out tomorrow and they are gone now.
  13. Tamara, have you followed up with your surgeon's office or NUT recently? Maybe a visit with them will help get you back on the right track. I'm newly sleeved, so the information is fresh in my mind, but my surgeon's rules are 3 meals a day and nothing in between except for Protein shakes if you are not getting in your protein. Also, no alcohol. I know a lot of people do imbibe after they are sleeved, but I know in the past drinking has definitely affected my diet inhibitions! It caused me to throw caution out the window and just eat whatever I felt like. I don't want to go back there, so I don't plan to go back to drinking at all. Plus, alcoholic beverages are just empty calories. I'd rather eat my calories!
  14. Awesome! Thanks for the update! I'm right there with you--I was stalled for about 2 weeks, then just lost 2 lbs. this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a bigger loss next week!
  15. If you haven't gone to the E/R yet, definitely call your surgeon first thing this morning. They will probably have you come in to their office to decide what needs to be done. Good luck!

    Incisions

I am 1 month out and my surgeon said at my 2 week follow up that I could swim, take a bath and go in a hot tub at 3 weeks out.
  17. I had a one month follow up visit with my NUT yesterday and she had me bring my Vitamins in. I had bought Caltrate chewable vitamins with Vitamin D and apparently didn't realize they were calcium carbonate instead of calcium citrate! I am having a difficult time finding reasonably priced chewable calcium citrate. My NUT said they must be chewable, and not gummies. I think I might try Bariatric Advantage 500 mg chewies, but they are so darn expensive!

    Back pain ? Gallbladder

Left sided could mean diverticulosis, which I was diagnosed with about 8 years ago. I also had issues with my gall bladder, so it was removed last month when I was sleeved. Golf ball sized gall stone! the pain was definitely on the right side with that.
  19. Veggies are not the carbs you need to worry about. Most veggies (except for corn, peas and potatoes) are pretty low carb. I did Atkins for 18 months and lost over 100 lbs., but you can never really get to 0 carbs. Generally, under 40 carbs a day is considered low carb. Atkins induction (the first phase) is 20 grams of carbs per day.
  20. I like the Premier Protein drinks from costco (or Walmart). They have 30 grams of protein, are 160 calories and a very small amount of fat and almost no carbs. I drink one for Breakfast and it gives me a good jump on my protein requirements for the day. What is your protein goal? What kind of stuff are you eating during the day? Are you using something like MyFitnessPal or LoseIt! to track your protein? That's a good way to make sure you are meeting your protein needs.

    What to order at Outback?

I went to Outback for Mother's Day. I got a 6 ounce filet with steamed mixed vegetables on the side. I cut the steak up very small and ate about 3 ounces and ate about 1/3 of my vegetables. Then I had the other half of the steak and most of the vegetables the next night for dinner. I know that you can get the grilled shrimp as an appetizer, so if you are not feeling like steak you can always get that. I'm not sure if they will just let you get the shrimp on the side the way they serve it in the steak and shrimp combo. I know Outback has their menu online, so you may want to take a look ahead of time.
  22. It might. It depends on your insurance company and also possibly your surgeon's office. One of the requirements for me getting approved for surgery is that I had to lose 10% of the amount I was overweight. When I started the medically supervised weight loss, I was at 366. At that time, they said I was 220 lbs. overweight, so I had to lose 22 lbs. They would not submit for approval until I lost the weight. That said, every doctor's office is different, and so are insurance companies. Have you contacted Aetna to find out what their requirements are?

    Restriction

I am a little more than three weeks out also. I can gulp Water, but I have to sip Protein shakes because they make me feel full. I drink one for Breakfast during my commute to work every day and it takes me about an hour to drink an 8 oz. Protein shake. As far as other foods, I have been measuring my servings with a measuring cup. 1/2 a cup is about my limit at this point. Have you been eating slowly? I notice that when I make sure I am eating slowly I end up eating less (the old brain catching up with the stomach/hunger thing.)
  24. Hi there. I had my surgery a few days before you and am in the same boat! Apparently a lot of people stall at around 3 weeks out. I did a search on the forum and found MANY threads discussing the dreaded 3 week stall. It was comforting to me to read those posts and see that I am far from the only one experiencing it! We will get through this!

    I'm starving

Sorry to hear you are having such bad acid problems! I think your doctor may have just forgotten to tell you to resume taking your Nexium. Mine was going to prescribe an antacid for me until I reminded him that I was already taking Protonix. Give the surgeon's office a call--I'm sure they will just tell you to start taking your Nexium again. Can you eat Jello? I found SF Jello filled me up during the Clear Liquids stage.
