SDH got a reaction from MissersK in Smoking!?
The first seminar we went to my surgeon told all of us that if we smoked we wouldn't get the surgery. We were told that we would be tested even up to the day of our surgery. That was February...I quit the first week of March and with the help of Chantix I am officially a non-smoker for almost 7 months now!!! I made up my mind that I want this surgery more than I want to smoke and for the first time after MANY times of trying to quit I have succeeded. My surgery is in 2 days and I am ready for my nicotine test, I've already been tested twice since April and have passed them both! YAY! Good luck!

The only people I can't wait to see my success is my ex husband and his wife! Like your SIL my ex's wife never ceases to drop her not so subtle innuendos. They don't know I'm having surgery and it's non of their business. I will see them in June when they come down for my daughter's graduation. I should be 6 months Post Op.

9 weeks in and I'm down 46 lbs. Very happy! To SDH, I couldn't stand the chewable vitamins either. My doctor told me I could take the gummy vitamins and I'm tolerating them fine. The only exercise I've been doing is physical therapy 3 times a week for my torn meniscus. Still a work out as I leave in a sweat! It is so much better now and recently went back to playing tennis once a week. I'm also about to start a one month gym membership that was gifted to me. I hope the weight continues to come off quickly. The first few weeks was quite a shock to see 23 lbs in just 2 weeks. Has slowed down since I'm on full diet now, but I think once I kick up the exercise that will change. Hoping to be down 50 lbs by thanksgiving, and 60-65 by Christmas!

I've always leaned on the thought that God places people into and out of our lives for a reason. Maybe God is making room for your new season. My surgery date is also December 2nd. We are getting ready to shed away the old weight and baggage to make room for the new. "Its all a part of the plan"

Why bother being on the forum in the first place if you have it all figured out....I admire the fact that you do as you would be the only one I know of that does...Mr it is an everyday learning experience and I read and studied this program for 2 years...Personally I find the forum valuable in that you get to read how others are handling all the things that you have already figured out....Amazing!!!!!

SDH reacted to No game in What are sliders?
    Actually not entirely true...
To the weight loss surgery patient slider foods are the bane of good intentions and ignorance often causing dumping syndrome, weight loss plateaus, and eventually weight gain for gastric bypass, gastric band (lap-band), and gastric sleeve bariatric patients.
Slider foods, to weight loss surgery patients, are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. The most innocent of slider foods are saltine crackers, often eaten with warm tea or other beverages, to soothe the stomach in illness or while recovering from surgery.
Understanding Slider Foods The most commonly
consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker Snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese Snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free Cookies, cakes, and candy. You will notice these slider foods are often salty and cause dry mouth so they must be ingested with liquid to be palatable. This is how they become slider foods.
They are also, most often, void of nutritional value. For weight loss surgery patients the process of digestion is different than those who have not undergone gastric surgery. When slider foods are consumed they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum where the simple carbohydrate slurry is quickly absorbed and stored by the body. There is little thermic effect in the digestion of simple carbohydrates like there is in the digestion of Protein so little metabolic energy is expended. In most cases patients in the phase of weight loss who eat slider foods will experience a weight loss plateau and possibly the setback of weight gain. And sadly, they will begin to believe their surgical stomach pouch is not functioning properly because they never feel fullness or restriction like they experience when eating Protein. The very nature of the surgical gastric pouch is to cause feelings of tightness or restriction when one has eaten enough food. However, when soft simple carbohydrates are eaten this tightness or restriction does not result and one can continue to eat, unmeasured, copious amounts of non-nutritional food without ever feeling uncomfortable.
Many patients turn to slider foods for this very reason. They do not like the discomfort that results when the pouch is full from eating a measured portion of lean animal or dairy protein without liquids. Yet it is this very restriction that is the desired result of the surgery. The discomfort is intended to signal the cessation of eating. Remembering the "Protein First" rule is crucial to weight management with bariatric surgery. Gastric bypass, gastric banding (lap-band) and gastric sleeve patients are instructed to follow a high protein diet to facilitate healing and promote weight loss.
Bariatric centers advise what is commonly known among weight loss surgery patients as the "Four Rules" the most important of which is "Protein First." That means of all nutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat and alcohol) the patient is required to eat protein first. Protein is not always the most comfortable food choice for weight loss surgery patients who feel restriction after eating a very small amount of food. However, for the surgical tool to work correctly a diet rich in protein and low in simple carbohydrate slider foods must be observed. The high protein diet must be followed even after healthy body weight has been achieved in order to maintain a healthy weight and avoid weight regain.

It's freezing in Scotland so I bought a new coat. It was quilted - something I would never have bought before as I would have looked like the Michelin tyre man - and it has a BELT!
I wore it for the first time today not intending to use the belt - no idea when I last wore one and thought I would look like a sack of tatties. But before I left, I buckled the belt to give my mind a treat and was shocked to see I looked ok! No lumps, bumps, I almost cried. My dietician said to me a couple of weeks ago that to others, I look normal sized but I am struggling to see it. But I saw it today. Woo hoooooo!

Good Luck on your surgery....if yours goes as well as mine you will be just fine....I had NO PAIN at all after.....( but I think they dosed me up through the IV. The first day. The day of the surgery I was not scared or nervous at all. I can say I don't remember much of anything at all. I remembering seeing my doctor in the hall before I got gowned up....and I remember talking to him in the pre op room......but I don't remember getting the IV's started (I had two) or talking to nurses, anesthesia drs, ...and after surgery I don't remember anything till the next day.....and I was awake, talking to my family, and walking the hallway .....lol ...the information my kids could have gotten out of me could have been dangerous...lol....but I had a wonderful experience and would do the surgery again in a heartbeat. I am down 30 pounds and am not going to stop until I hit 150 ... You can do it to!
I am sure we will hit little stall or derailments off the right track ...but as soon as you realize what is wrong , fix it and go faster and harder you can blow through the stall ...just ALWAYS get your Protein have a "stall"of sorts ...I was taking on Water because my Aunt Flo was coming for a a few days ....but as soon as she left the weight soon dropped !!
I am on the happy happy train to my exit at 145 (or150)
After my stall I lost 5 pounds must have been thar monthly excess fluids us women get....
But after her added weight I was thrilled but Dr Gluck in Muskegon...said I was doing everything exactly right and I may see this same episode every month so don't worry about it like I did....lol

First, thank you for your reply. I started a food diary today and will add all your tips to it so when the time comes, I'll be able to utilize your great suggestions. I am the same way you were - my mind is made up and I don't want my sisters' input. Jim was stuffing candy bars down his gullet so that's probably why it was hard to take. I LOVE chocolate.< /p>

Get you some gas-x and tell dude he gonna have to go in the next room with that food. You've only been out of the hospital a few days it will get better every day. sip something every 10-15 minutes and when he eats you go outside and take a walk. you will be amazed at how much it improves the gas. this is not hell. hell is being trapped in a body that holds you back from being the person you want to be. this is like purchasing a one way ticket on a crappy bus out of hell. sure the journey will not be easy or comfortable and will suck like hell but each pound down gets you closer to your goal and baaaaby when you get there you will enjoy it. keep your eyes on the prize. he flaunts his food today you flaunt your body tomorrow!

My husband can't stop shopping online for me. I have no idea why but clothes keep appearing at the house. So he bought me two tiny looking size 14 dresses. I wanted to let him see how they were still waaaay too small for me. I love dresses but they didn't look good with the excess weight so I was very nervous.

    But they fit!

And even though I say it myself, dang I look good in them! I have to admit, I didn't recognize myself in them. I didn't realize I am "small" enough to fit into them.

I used to read about others who said they didn't realize they were in a smaller size and it made no sense to me. Today I understood that.

I'm exactly three months out today (sx aug 2nd), 39 lbs down and in another pound I'll be half-way to goal. I've gone from an 18w or 20 to a misses 14.

For those of you who stress about stalls(I.e., me too)? Just know that in 3 months I've had 3 stalls that lasted 12 days, 12 days, and 15 days respectively. So out of 90 days, I spent 39 days stalled. And still got these results overall.

So grateful for the sleeve today. I have a thankful heart. Thanks for listening to me dance about with happiness
