Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

The last I heard was sometime mid January, if they could find someone to host it... I hope there is one, I would sure like to go! My surgery got bumped up 4 hours tomorrow. I'm beginning to get that "what the hell am I about to do" feeling and I can't seem to shake it. But then a moment of "you can do this!" creeps through and then I'm excited. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's felt this way! Oh well time to move forward and just get this done. See you all "on the other side" as they say

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Best wishes and super good thoughts for today's crew! Tomorrow I'm up, and my head is spinning trying to get all last minute stuff done and the snow here is not cooperating! Hoping that our bodies will not reject what we are about to do to them... it's a continuous fight, but we gotta keep fighting the good fight I suppose! Hang in there everyone and good luck!!!

Hey guys, how are all you previous sleevers doing so far? Two days to go and I'm getting nervous now! Anyone else coming up on a surgery date?

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Awesome, thank you! I actually have a New Whey variety pack box, but I don't think the apple is in it. I do like that brand! Great idea with the Mio squirts (I assume you mean Mio not Milo right?) Will try that soon, sounds good.

Jerzygurl may I ask which protein shots you are using? I've tried so many and wondering if there's some I missed. Thanks!

    DNR Order!?!?

Signing a DNR is a very personal decision. If you don't want that, then you should make that clear. The health care proxy (or MPOA as you put it) is another story. That should be assigned to a sound and responsible party who is willing to act in your best interest, should there be a need (lets hope there isn't in the case of our surgeries!!). And yes both you and the other party need to sign that. The DNR is only your signature. (At least that's how it is in my state) Me, I go DNR. Because I don't ever want to be kept alive on a machine or be seriously effed up otherwise... Just my opinion and thoughts! And oh yeah, aren't we all going in on the same day? ^^ PS: We are all going to be just fine!!

    Protein pre op

My center didn't mention a certain amount either. If you track your intake with MyFitnessPal you'll know exactly how much you're getting. I've been averaging around 120-140 a day (depending on which Protein powder I use) which is really good. Sounds like you're doing it right though, keep it up! I'm down 8 in a week which is a miracle for me... its very hard but gotta stay focused!

    For those healing right now..

Thanks for writing this! I already am so up and down with what to expect. Some days I'm so excited and then so worried. I already often have these weird shock moments that hit me during the day that something oddly strange is about to happen to my insides in a few days... I've been through some challenging situations in my life and have always been strong but the whole premise of what may happen (especially the bad) after this surgery freaks me out. I'm already thinking "what am I about to do to myself??" but then that goes away when I notice how much better I feel already during this preop diet. I'm so back and forth. Not worried so much about the surgery itself though... I just may be contacting you for some advice so be forewarned

How do I add protein powder?

FYI - whey protein powders can not be mixed in hot liquids (over 140˚ I think) - it gets weird and lumpy as you can see. If you want to mix a protein powder into hot foods, try using unflavored pea protein (NOW makes a very good non-GMO one, 28g protein per scoop). I make my broths with it - it can be boiled so you can enjoy a nice warm cup of Soup or broth. I mix it into my chili or any other dishes I can for the fam, and they never even notice they are getting a protein boost

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Got my final medical clearance today, and I'm good to go. Feeling much better about everything. Bases are loaded... batter is up, ready for a home run! Woot! Oh and off topic for those still on pre-op diet, I have a tip for fighting the urge to eat: rub a bunch of Vapo-Rub or Mentholatun under your nose! My husband just HAD to cook dinner for himself last night, and it smelled so good it was driving me mad (he kept apologizing lol). I went to the bathroom then the idea sparked. It surely blocked all the good smells! Haha it works Best of luck to everyone having their day today!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I am on day 11 and I no longer care about food! lol Yesterday, I could see my husband's food and think "I want some of that." Today I saw it and thought, "I want some of that." but when I actually thought about it, I couldn't even picture myself eating it or what it tasted like! lol I had no feelings about it at all! It was chili. Hope this lasts through next week and hope that all of you just starting on the diet get to this point too! You need to change your name to Wonder Woman! Holy moly you rock. Good for you. In my dreams I can only say "I no longer care about food!" BIG LOL... actually I really don't have a desire to eat, I just can't stand the hunger pangs!! Hopefully after tomorrow the hungry monster will give up and just lay still for a few days before he is pulled to his death next week

    Doubting Thomas

Thanks to all for helpful and insightful responses. Much appreciated! I am worried because I've had serious metabolic issues for years. Its so damn hard to lose even if I starve and kill myself working out. I'm a freak of nature what can I say I have expressed my concerns to the doc already, and he seems to think the surgery will help. I suppose I should trust him since he's been very successful. And ohhh yes I have done my research for months now! My biggest fear above all (dying of complications is second), is going through with it and not seeing results (or very minimal results) and then being sorry that I ever did it. I'm not expecting the pounds to melt away quickly. I know it's a process, and I'd prefer it to come off gradually at a slower pace anyway. Its not that I have no faith in the sleeve - I do or else I wouldn't have contemplated it. I just have no faith in my body cooperating with it!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Thanks I'm doing my best! Pretty much same as your diet but the only solids would be a handful of leafy green veg if absolutely necessary, no fruits. I'm so hungry to the point of stomach growling hurt, and the more I drink water it only becomes worse. I wish I could sleep off the next 7 days! I cannot WAIT for this evil growling monster inside me to be taken out and burned!! aack!
  14. Yes. Me. I'll be that one. Not so much as dying from the actual surgery but complications thereafter. On the other hand, I keep convincing myself things will be ok because I've seen people who were a lot more unhealthy than me who have woken up from the table and are keeping on with life, losing weight, and doing great. Not to mention all the great success stories here on the boards. Also when you have people who depend on you, the instinct is to be a fighter and pull through anything as hard as it may get, so yeah I guess we shouldn't worry, we will be fine

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi all, a question for the pre-op dieters or this month's sleevers. Have any of you NOT lost any weight on pre-op, or lost very minimally? Going on day three here and gained two pounds even though I'm peeing like a race horse! I swear I could eat a sheet of drywall if it was put in front of me right now. Trying very hard to stick to the plan, this is a ton harder than I thought it would be

    Help! Struggling With Liquid Diet

I don't think your "cheat" will hurt you. I start mine this weekend for a 12/17 date. Pretty much the same plan as you describe but was told a handful of non-starchy green veg (greens, cukes, broccoli, etc) was ok if you really needed something to chew. I experimented with mixing pea Protein into broths - it "creams" it up giving some substance and texture which is a nice change from the sweet stuff. Knorr makes a tomato-chicken broth base as well as shrimp flavor, which is a great change of pace to break up the monotony. I hope I make it through these next ten days... it's not going to be easy thats for sure!

    December 2013 Sleevers

Haha oh boy tell me about it... I start mine tomorrow for real but have already done a test drive for two days - it's not easy! One thing I tried (and I suggest) is to get some of those fiber gummies (sugar free) and slowly chew a few then drink something. It staves off that horrible hunger feeling for a bit until it's time for another shake. Plus they help keep you regular!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I know most if not all people here agree with the sentiment that anything with collagen protein is not good. I have to disagree, having extensive experience with a protein deficient family member who was hospitalized for over a year. Nothing that the hospital gave him to increase his protein levels worked. Beneprotein, Juven, etc. I took it upon myself to bring in some protein shots. Like mentioned in the quote below, we needed the most concentrated bang of protein per volume. I started with Sunkist Protein shots, also switching up between Proasis, Profect, New Whey, and Dymatize Liquid Aminos. Within 6 months, patient's pre-albumin levels rose from severely deficient numbers (3-5) to staying stead around 28-30 (normal) upon release from the hospital. Not to mention that wound healing increased exponentially during the time of supplementation. The NP's and doctors asked me what I was giving him. They were pretty impressed and in fact almost banned me from giving supplements because they weren't on the "approved meds list" - more likely because they weren't happy that they couldn't solve the protein deficiency themselves Now I'm not a nutritionist by any means, but I've seen proof that protein shots DO WORK (in myself as well when I had a recent minor surgery). So my point is, do not disregard any sort of concentrated liquid protein just because there is hydrolyzed collagen in it. As long as the product contains sufficient aminos, it is a good protein, IMO. New Whey is a good one. Dymatize Elite shots are excellent as well and have no mention of collagen (just whey/casein). Dymatize Liquid Aminos taste amazing and have 25g protein in 50ml. Definitely a good protein bang in small volume. Another mention - Cytosport Whey Isolate drinks. Comparable to Isopure Zero Carb but taste WAY better and cost less. 32g whey isolate per 16oz bottle. I start my LRD tomorrow. Game on... I am definitely using all the above mentioned - now and after surgery as well. Just my 2 cents and hope this helps!

Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

Oh yes! I guess I forgot to add that, woops I am going in 12/17, I start the LRD tomorrow... Armed with all the shakes, other protein mixes, and sugar-free Jellos I could conjure up. I've done a couple days of it already this week and oh boy it's not going to be easy. Two things I tried and really like are the Syntrax Nectars and Muscle Milk (Cytosport) Whey Isolate fruit drinks (the Cytosport is comparable to Isopure Zero Carb, but tastes WAY better and a little cheaper). These will help break up the thick milky shakes routine I hope. Game on... Wish me luck! Still here, did you get a surgery date yet?? Last time we heard from you it sounded like your insurance finally approved it?

    Post-Op Week 3 - I Miss My Coffee!

Thanks for this post. When you write about being scared, it sounds like I could be writing this. I feel the same way, with a somewhat comforting thought in the back of my mind telling me that I still have a chance to back out within the next 12 days. A few months ago I was like "LETS DO THIS" but the closer time comes, I can't help thinking that I may somehow be screwing myself up for life. It's not fear of the way of eating or lifestyle change, hell I can handle that. I'm just weirded out about the whole stomach removal thing. On the other hand when I can't fit into clothes, or I have joint pain, or I can't buckle an airplane seatbelt, or I have to unzip my pants to bend and tie my shoes - I know I have to do this because I can't keep weight off on my own But I really wanted to reply to this because I will seriously MISS MY COFFEE too. Just like you how miss it! Just hanging out casually enjoying a nice cup here or there. And that first nice hot cup in the morning that gets the business going (if ya know what I mean haha). I don't drink a lot of coffee but I thoroughly enjoy it when I do. I've slowly tried to wean off so it won't be so bad come post-op. But that one cup in the morning.... it's going to be so hard, more difficult than sticking to the rest of the program!

    December 2013 Sleevers

I'm happy to read that everyone who has gone in so far is doing well. Congrats to you all and wishing everyone continued success. Please keep posting the updates! I just completed my pre-surg testing today. The nurses said I am in good hands with my surgeon. This has helped bring some mental relief today, feeling better about this now. Time for me to man up and get this party started!! woop woop
  24. Wow that is awesome. A diet like that is already pretty typical for me on a daily basis. With an occastional bad day or two here and there haha... Which is why I second guess this surgery because if I can't lose by staying by under 1200 calories a day then I must really need to completely starve. But that's a whole other topic :/ Anyway good luck to you, sounds like you're gonna do fine.
