My grandmother lost 2/3 of her stomach to cancer when she was in her late 40's. She died at 88 and never had any issues related to her stomach.

Two years ago, I was two weeks away from getting sleeved. I let my fear and doubt get the best of me and I backed out. Thought I'd give it one more try. Guess what, I failed again! Last October, I finally got sleeved. This time I was sure - I wasn't nervous or fearful. I had faith in my surgeon and my decision. Best decision ever! I only had 54 lbs to lose and I've lost 53. 1 lb to go! I'm still losing and will probably pass goal. It's a lot of work and dedication, but totally worth it.

thank you, I have heard scar tissue thing, and I have a feeling that is what it will be. I have to admit I am a stubborn irish woman, I was suppose to make the first week appointment and when I did try to make it they had no late appointments, so I got mad and said to them you had late appointments before the operation now you don't, so I did not see the doctor yet and like I said I have another 12 days, I went from 246 to 198 in 5 weeks, have not weighed myself this week yet, I think that is too quick to lose the weight, I will call the doctors and see if they can see me but today I have to go see my brother who is in hospice and has days to live, but thank you , I promise I will try, I feel I was fine in beginning then BAMM just couldn't eat or drink anything,

As someone who's going through exactly the same thing, here's what I would advise based on my consultations with a plastic surgeon.
    1. Take a good, honest look at your body and prioritize what you really want/need to change, and what you can live with. Due to anesthesia limitations, my surgeon told me that I couldn't wake up and be "fixed", but could choose two of the 4 procedures I wanted done at a time. For me, that ended up being the boobs & arm lift- the two things I felt caused me to feel the most self conscious and were the hardest to disguise, especially in the summer. The other two can wait till winter time.
    2. Get an expense estimate with the length of validity. Plastic surgery is quite expensive, and depending on what you're interested in, many insurance companies won't cover the cost. Check out financing options to help guide your priorities.
    3. Ask to see before/after pictures, and allow the surgeon to "manhandle" you to give a relative idea of the results. This part was a living nightmare for me to be honest- standing in a pair of (horrifying) surgical panties in front of a complete stranger who was pushing, pulling and tugging at parts of me that I didn't want to touch, let alone someone else But....it gave me a semi-realistic view of what he could do to help, and he realized my discomfort immediately and said something along the lines of "I know this is rough for you, but think of it this way. I see women just like you every single day. I'm not looking at what you are, but what you can become. I'm an artist, and your'e my canvas. Let me show you the beautiful artwork I can create." I was sold.
    3. If you're going for a boob job, don't be afraid to try them on for size. My surgeon had a special bra you could pop implants in to get an idea of how you'll look- kind of like those maternity belly pillows some of us tried on in the store when we started needing maternity clothes It's ok if you have no idea what would look good- he/she will, and will be able to explain the types of implants and what they would recommend.
    4. If the idea of scars freak you out...I asked my surgeon to use his marker to actually draw the placement of the scars on me. I "wore" them for a day and decided I could live with it.
    5. It's your body, but it's his/her specialty. My surgeon was recommended by my RNY surgeon as the best in our area, and I couldn't agree more. I did a ton of research online about him, his practice, and the procedures I was considering. If there is anything about any procedure that I'm not completely happy with, he'll "fix" it without charge. I'd recommend that anyone else do the same.
    Hope this helps!

..of weight loss surgery. I used to have trouble walking a single block because of the joint pain, extra weight I carried, and the shortness of breath. Today I walked from Manhattan to Brooklyn and back. No pain, no sweating like a pig, no heavy breathing.

I am genuinely sorry you haven't experienced lasting success post WLS. I went through that - I lost about 70 pounds with the band, regained it all plus a whole crap load more. Most on this forum know the emotional pain of losing and regaining huge amounts of weight (I had ton it before too) but somehow having it post WLS is even more... devastating. I was in my 30s when I had the lapband, I made a genuine effort to educate myself pre surgery, I tried very hard post surgery and yet I failed. In hindsight, a big part of the problem is that tool never worked well for me and the side effects made my life hell (talk about reflux - I had to sleep upright if I had ANY fill!) but also that I just didn't have all the pieces together myself either.
While i am in the minority, I actually agree with much of your sentiment. WLS is not a miracle cure and even though we all say we know it's "just a tool" in reality many don't understand that the tool doesn't work very well over time. It works great at first, and then one day you realize... holy crap... this REALLY IS just a tool and I can regain weight even with my tiny tummy.
I am always in the minority opinion on this one - but I also am "uncomfortable" with younger/not as heavy people diving into weight loss surgery. Especially if they really haven't seriously tried lifestyle/behavioral programs. In fact, when I was revised to the sleeve, I was looking for a long term behavior program. I had the good luck to be screened by the director of a 2 year program who told me that my disease of obesity was far too advanced and she felt I would not be successful in her program (I was late 40s and at least 150# overweight and had been obese or overweight many many years).
However, much of your other information shared is not correct and is misleading and while I don't intend this as a criticism, I don't want newbies to read it and not comprehend the misstatements of fact. (Everyone is entitled to their opnions - but not their own version of the facts!!!)
Muscle loss is an important topic no matter HOW you lose weight. strength and muscle building (and aerobic) exercise is more about MAINTENANCE than it is about weight loss. why is that? If you don't maintain (or regain after losing) muscle mass your metabolism drops and it is really much harder to maintain.
I lost a crudload of weight post sleeve and I think I look GREAT. People who didn't know me before are always shocked that I lost so much because I look healthy and athletic (thats a joke!) like I have been trim and active my whole life. That "looking old and unhealthy" is a complete myth. I have had people look at my before (age 48) and after (50) photos tell me that I now look like my "before" pictures daughter. That is how much younger I look post weight loss.
I think many people who are dissatisfied with their looks, dissatisfied with having a smaller tummy (for me a blessing!) are in truth struggling with other, underlying issues such as dismorphia etc. Don't get me wrong, I have "issues" - ha! As a wise woman once said on these forums "you don't get to 300# and not have SOMETHING going on contributing to this". The physical disease process of obesity is the rollercoaster i couldn't get off without surgery, but the "issues" contributed to me getting there in the first place. The difference is i am now mature enough to seriously face that emotional stuff. Not perfect, but getting better and better.
Good luck in your future and know that you can regain good health quite readily by going back to basics as far as eating (sleever rules!) AND by exercising and becoming active. Perhaps focus less on the scale and focus more on good health.

I don't like the whole "Goal" thing we are all made differently for a reason, I started at 388 in January, GSV on June 10th and today am at 318 -320lbs, my doctor said my goal weight is to be 160lbs, I said my goal was 190-200lbs, I work out hardcore and love building muscle, I also have a cheat day once a month, people on here are great for the most part but on occasion I will see something that borders on ludicrous, I caught alot of slack for saying that I use milestones instead of the scale, but twice I have seen the same peeps that admonished me freak out over the dreaded "Stall" if I doing so bad then why and how have I lost over 70 lbs since January, and 9 waist sizes, and I've even managed to break my personal best at the gym twice this month, and guess what ? All I really care about is that my Apnea is almost gone, my blood pressure hovers around 125/78, I don't have diabetes, and I will be here longer for my family, oh yeah and I care about the Kayak my wife is getting me, yeah the Kayak , that's a biggie!!!!!!!! You are doing nothing wrong, and as long as you are trying and kicking, won't be!!!!!
Be about happy, and don't fall into the misery likes company thingy, unhappy people are never content, they take care of the weight but forget about the mind!!!!

I can offer a different perspective. I haven't been following the rules and I have gained about 13 lbs. I'm 19 months out and did very well for the first year. I don't think they're being mean spirited, just trying to help you. I wish I would have had someone in my face. I wish you all the best on your journey.
