Seela got a reaction from Jillian K8 in Can't Stand My Protein Drinks Anymore
I haven't actually tried this because I haven't had any problems, but my NUT gave me some other options... Add dry powdered milk, it adds a lot of protien. Add powdered egg whites = protein... Carnation instant Breakfast, sugar free with powdered milk or plain Protein powder. broth with plain protein powder (I did that, it was good). If you have greek yogurt, you may want to thin it out, it might be too thick for liquid stage until you get into puree or soft. good luck

Seela got a reaction from TRAVELRN in Joining Weight Watchers after Gastric Sleeve surgery.
Considering how newly sleeved you are I think you should definitely wait. Most of us lose a lot the first few weeks, then it slows down considerably for a while then it tends to even out again. Also, at only 7 weeks out 1100 calories sounds like ALOT. You should talk to your nutritionist. I can see doing well after a year or more out but certainly not this early. It's a totally different type of plan and having done ww and having had wls I just don't see how the two could mesh healthily in the beginning. Also keeping it from your surgeon and from ww is your first inclination that you're doing something you shouldn't. Good luck

Seela got a reaction from liannatx in Have you smoked or vaped e-cigarettes and not had complications post surgery?
I Vape non stop... even vaped in the hospital. .. have not had one problem. I told my surgeon, I don't smoke I don't drink I don't do drugs i dont consume caffine and now I don't even overeat so it's the last bad habit I have and I'm not stopping. He said he could live with that. I have not had any problems what so ever. If you can stop though, I would.

Seela got a reaction from txfirefly979 in I cried for an obese man
I'm a hair stylist and I never even considered wls. About 5 years ago a new client came in, a man, skinny little fella. I asked him what he did for a living and he told me he was a bariatric surgeon. I was instantly uncomfortable. Then he went on for 20 minutes about how I should get wls, about how the odd are stacked against me for doing it on my own, about how while I may be able to lose weight on my own but I would never be able to keep it off. Well, needless to say all that did was make me mad and humiliated. He came in every month. He didn't always talk about it but he often did. Not the best bedside manner, but a brilliant and successful surgeon. 4 years after our initial meeting I had surgery, with him as my surgeon. He pissed me off but if he hadn't I may never had even had surgery on my radar. I've never been so grateful to be made mad and humiliated in my life.

Seela got a reaction from TravelinGal in The Sleeve Gastrectomy and How and Why it can Fail (Surgery Current Research 2014 publication)
Personally I'm sick of hearing about how the surgery failed. I'm sure it does happen once in a while but honestly most of the time when I see someone that's had great success with wls then "failed" it's because they just stopped following their plan. Plain and simple. As a hairstylist I see a lot of women that have had wls, mostly bypass, and probably 75% of them have major regain about 4 years later. They ALL have the exact same thing in common. .. they have all given up on their eating plan and exercise. It seems simple to me (simple in theory not practice)... stay on your plan and remain successful. I think it is entirely unfair to say the surgery or procedure is a failure when if one "simply" (lol) continues to follow their plan it would not fail. We all are told in the beginning that this surgery requires a lifelong commitment and if we choose not to abide by those guidelines then the surgery has NOT failed, the patient has. I'm only just over 5 months out and I can already see how difficult it will be in the future, but if I end up regaining my weight (which I won't ) I will have nothing to blame but myself.

Seela got a reaction from Licia'sjourney in Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
I thought average was 60%.. now I'm gonna have to recalculate. . Lol... anyway I started at 250lbs and am currently 192 in less than 4 months (sleeved 10/21). I will be at 60% when I hit 184lb. My loss was 4-5days lbs per week for a long time then went to a couple of tenths per week now about 2lbs per week. I figure once I hit the "average" 60-65% it will start getting harder. I haven't done much exercise yet but I plan to start in the spring. I use mfp to log my food. I don't stress over it but it keeps me accountable to myself and I don't think I would ever hit my Protein goals without it. Also I would probably eat either 200 calories a day or 5000 calories a day if I didn't keep track. For me this surgery was about change. I may not always like it but I will continue to log my food and track my calories and protein so if I end up regaining in the future I can plainly see why and make adjustments. Also I struggle with getting in enough Water so logging helps me push it.

Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been here, but I had my surgery one year ago today and I wouldn't have been able to get through it without all of the support I received here. I started out a year ago at 250 lbs, size 20 and a year after VSG I am 155 lbs and a size 6!
