I haven't got my surgery date yet, still have a few pre-op appointments to keep first. I have a question regarding giving up caffeine. I am one of those people who get severe headaches when I need coffee. Usually 1 cup and it is gone. Do you have any suggestions on how I can give up caffeine before my surgery and not have to suffer through the headaches? This is probably one of my biggest issues so far. Thanks for any help.
My suggestion is to start "cutting" your caffeine way before your surgery. Start mixing in more Decaf into your coffee...then half caff, then go to all decaf well before your surgery. You may find then you can give up the 'ritual' of drinking coffee since you aren't getting the caffeine high anymore...another good idea before surgery. Replace with drinking Water, or mio, G2, etc. which WILL be part of your life post. I was a major caffeine addict pre surgery...we are talking quad espresso shots at Starbucks plus 2-3cups of coffee a day.

Congratulations to all of you on your weight loss success!!!! Reading your post are motivating me at a times I'm wondering if my experience is normal. I had my WLS on 11/14/13, SW 266, includes pre-op CW 242, GW 165. I thought to join in on the September group to learn from your experiences. Everyone on my November group seems be in what most are referring a "stall" and I'm right there with them. I'm getting in all my fluids, Proteins and small meals. My greatest challenge is not walking enough due to low back and right knee injury. I feel guilty when I eat my small meals, as if it's causing me not to lose weight. Few questions Did you experience this as well, this stall within your 4 to 6 weeks post-op? When did you start losing or seeing results again, like when on pre-op liquid diet? What are you using for your scars? Are you shedding lots of hair? What Iron Vitamins taste or works for best you? Thank you in advance for your feedback and experiences!! Mrs Rookie! : )
Hi Scorpion,
Yes, stalls are very common...I've been through three so far. Just our bodies trying to take a break and catch up. Just keeping doing the right thing and it will pass.
I never lost as fast as pre-op and immediately post surgery after the first month..but slow and steady wins the race... And your skin doesn't sag as much in my opinion.
I put neosporin on my scars for awhile, but nothing now....they seem to still be getting better with time.
I haven't had any real Hair loss issues yet, and I take Biotin every day.
I don't take an Iron supplement....don't know why...doctor didn't recommend for me.
Hope that helps. Just stick with the plan, stay focused, and it WILL work.
Good luck.

I'll join...better late than never.

Ok. I'll play this challenge... Better late than never. For the remainder of the month I will try the plank challenge and to get 40 miles walked. Additionally, do 40 crunches every day. Wish me luck.

Never mind. Just saw GG plank post. Thanks.

Hello to all those done in September 2013, especially 9/24/13. How is it going? I seem to be at a plateau. I am down 42 pounds but have been here for about a week. I find that struggle with wanting to snack at night. I do try to eat Protein first still. I hope to drop a few pounds soon. I do feel great. Merry Christmas to you all!!!!
Hang I there. Stalls are common. I'm at about the same rate if loss as you and hit a stall over thanksgiving but have lost a few lbs in the past 10 days.

I'm not sure about the artificial sweetener but the only Protein I can handle is the Premier Protein shakes chocolate. I hope you find something that works for you.

I'm not a doctor, but I don't think you've done any damage to your sleeve. I think you would be able to tell. I would try and go back to your doctors recommendation, but don't worry yourself about what you ate...I've seen lots of posts from people that were on puréeds after day 3!

I struggled with the same depressing comparisons since I had less to lose.i downloaded an app called Get-2-Goal for my iPad that really helped.

Ok' date=' I'm officially discouraged!! I don't weigh, but every other week and only down 20 pounds since surgery on 9/25 and can't even tell a difference in my clothes yet! Ok sorry, my rant is over now! LOL Glad everyone is doing great & not had any major complications after surgery!![/quote']I feel your frustration. U was sleeved on 9/24 and am only down 25lbs. The past ten days I've doubled my steps, been religious on eating, and have only dropped a pound in ten days. I know to expect stalls, but actually not getting frustrated is hard.

I'm 2 mos out' date=' sleeved 9/3 and I've lost 59lbs. My favorite Protein Powder is not chocolate or vanilla but Syntrax Fuzzy Navel. I drink it everyday. Still looking for a good vanilla powder and I don't like pure Protein Shakes. I heard if you make your shakes the might before and keep them in the fridge overnight they aren't so gritty.[/quote']What do you mix the fuzzy navel with?

Hang in there' date=' girl. I'm 5'51/2". Started at 230, day of surgery was 221lbs. That was 8/6/2013. Now I'm 177lbs. I got a little sidetracked and started eating treats (Halloween crap). So today in back on track, no head hunger so far today.
It can feel slow, but I promise, you are changing. I struggle with being patient, but each day is a day closer to goal!

Thanks for the encouragement. I try and remind myself that it took a while to pack on the weight, it's going to be a marathon and not a sprint to take it all off.
Good luck with avoiding the candy. I have issues with snacking temptations as well.

Does anyone have any good Protein Shake recipes or advice? I bought a bunch of Unjury powders in different flavors but can't seem to get away from my Premier Protein shakes from costco. I don't want to waste the powders. Any suggestions?

I'm a bad example but i eat Protein meats first... Ground beef with lots of crushed tomatoes ( spaghetti sauce), salmon, cheese, Greek yogurt, chicken, hummus, guac, Tomato Soup, meatballs, cauliflower mushed up, eggs. My Nut said I can eat most any protein/veg as long as it's soft and I chew it up good.

I got my surgery on Sept. 24. Was down to 213 DOS ( lost 10 pre-op). One month out I lost 19lbs (196), 5 weeks out lost total 23 lbs. now I'm in a stall.

Hi all. I'm grateful that I don't seem to have any major issues. I worry more that I'm going to eat too much and not lose. I'm a snacker and nothing seems to upset my stomach so it's a mind over matter challenge to not snack on sweets or bad carbs. I hope the willpower lasts long term, I've already cheated enough times to make me feel quite guilty and depressed.

Lory,
I had to ask for a tablet pain med that I could crush (liquid made me vomit) I hide it in a tiny teaspoon of Greek yogurt. ( I know it's not clear but figured it is better than dry heaving my guys out) I'd also recommend gas x strips? Lots of walking, and a heating pad or microwaveable PEAS from The drug store. I put the hot PEAS pouch where I had gas and it helped. Good luck and I hope for some relief for you soon.

hey ...i had my surgery on thurs sept.26...the 2nd day was a nightmare i was nausea so bad...i thought i was dying..everyday is getting better...i stopped crying that i made a mistake... I am getting my Protein in..and trying to get the rest in too.. i get like a grumbling noise when the fluids go down especially Water hurts going down...just wondering if other newbies out there having any problems...also havenot gone #2 yet
Don't worry about going #2...I had just a bit on day 4 post op first time. I had major problems but each day does get better. I had heartburn and warm liquids worked better than cold for me. Just take it slow, sip as often as you can and rest. You will get through this.

Also, start cutting other sources of caffeine...chocolate, tea, cokes, etc. I've never had a caffeine headache after I cleaned it out of my system and it feels great.
