Protein Shakes VS. Real Food
MindiJean replied to Ellenenchanted's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon is at a Center of Excellence for bariatric surgery. There are a few surgeons there, as well as nurse practitioners and nutritionists. I have only one day pre-diet which consists of high Protein low carb foods, and then post-op will have pureed foods while still in the hospital. -
Biotin - 5000 mcg - 120 Capsules
MindiJean replied to Ms.Yvette's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take 10,000 mcg Biotin and used to suffer from migraines, but have no since taking biotin! And high fives from another chemo survivor....we are not our hair. -
I've had concerns because my diet seems very different than others. But then I found that the Cornell Weight Loss Surgery Diet is very similar. http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf No pure liquid stages. No three weeks of only clears. I'm not sure if I should be screaming for joy, or feel badly for those who have such hard restrictions, or to question MY Nut?

Going to Sam's Club soon
MindiJean replied to MindiJean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! -
I'm taking a trip to Sam's Club soon. My surgery is on November 20. My pre and post op diet does NOT include Protein shakes. My surgeon (at a Center for Excellence) prefers you get food into you as soon as possible, with a low carb high protein diet beforehand and a pureed diet for two weeks post-op. That being said, can you guys post some suggestions for what I should put on my Sam's Club shopping list?

LOL...baby gak. Okay....how about canned items? canned meats? already prepared items is what I'm looking for? Although I have heard that baby turkey meatballs are good!!

What was the reasoning, do you know? It seems that most are in and out in a day or two!

Has anyone had their surgery done at Froedtert in Milwaukee? If so, what was your experience like?
-
I'm not concerned about what I'm going to be eating pre and post, I was concerned because it was so different than the other pre and post op diets I've seen. I'm used to things being hard in life! I'm having this surgery so that I can lose weight in order to have a big surgery done to fix my basketball sized hernia that developed after my big surgery two years ago for bladder cancer, where I had my bladder and uterus removed after chemo. Life isn't easy....just keep swimming.

Does anyone buy their Vitamins there as well? I just saw that they have canned roast beef....I wonder how that tastes pureed? -
From what I understand, it's things like canned tuna and canned chicken, pureed in a blender.

Survival skills for the 14 day pre-op diet
MindiJean replied to Italiancurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you have such an icky diet! Mine is the standard protocol for my hospital. I'm going to Froedtert in Milwaukee to have the surgery. They don't want us using liquid as a way of life and so start us off on pureed foods in the hospital. This hospital is a Center for Excellence, so I figure they must be doing something right? I have a big problem with most sugar free items and artificial sweeteners, so I cannot imagine having three days of clear liquid. -

MindiJean replied to Italiancurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry! Do you want me to delete it? It just amazes me how different everyone's pre and post op diets are. According to what I typed in here, it's 48? -
Survival skills for the 14 day pre-op diet
MindiJean replied to Italiancurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op (surgery on November 20) is really not much of a pre-op. I've been low carbing it for years, and this is very similar. -
What is your "(non)guilty pleasure" food?
MindiJean replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder how this product is? It seems less expensive and has Stevia as well! http://www.amazon.com/True-Lemon-Assorted-Beverage-Lemonade/dp/B00BBJTBE0/ref=sr_1_21?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1382313381&sr=1-21&keywords=Crystal+Light+Pure When I was going through chemo, one of the only drinks that sat well with me was lemonade. And I'm diabetic and so went for the Crystal Light, drank a ton of it and got a horrific headache. And then read the ingredients. -

MindiJean replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot handle aspartame or sucrulose or any other fake sweeteners. Crystal Light does make a Crystal Light Pure that is made with Stevia (no reactions to that). It's hard to find sometimes. Walmart carries a few flavors. -
Before and After Pics
MindiJean replied to Roserie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say.....one of my concerns was losing the girls. From these pictures, it appears that the girls still remain after the weight is lost? -
The meds that I am on currently are for hypothyroidism, I'm on two insulins and Metformin, a blood pressure med, a CPAP for sleep apnea, Prevacid, a med for cholesterol, Spiro for Water pill and facial hair, and a few different meds for OCD/PTSD. I know the psych meds will remain, but my hope is to get off the insulin more than anything!

How long did it take for you to feel normal again?
MindiJean posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long after surgery did you personally start to feel normal (or a new normal) again? Can you remember when you were relatively pain-free? How long did you have lifting restrictions? My husband and I are foster parents (as well as foster to adopt) and we take in babies and toddlers for the most part. I'm wondering how long I should take off from fostering after surgery? -
