  1. I had a sleeve 5 years ago. It caused me to have severe acid reflux. I lost weight in the beginning but gained the majority of it back. If I had to do it over I would have started with the Roux en y. I ended up needing to have the RNY anyway because of the severe acid reflux. I guess the only way you can correct the acid reflux is to do a RNY because it forms a wall so the acid can’t travel back up your esophagus. Since I’ve had the RNY I have also discovered it is also almost impossible to throw up. So I have horrible dry heaves when I am nauseous. The sleeve works for a lot of people, but it just didn’t work for me.

So Who do You Look Like?

People say I look like Sophia Loren, but one time at the mall a bunch of teenagers swore I was some Latino Disc Jockey/Rapper. They swarmed around me and were asking for my autograph. I tried to convince them I wasn’t who they thought I was but they didn’t believe me. I actually had to run away from them to get away! 😂 I still don’t have a clue who they thought I was & I’m not Latino.

    March 2019 sleepers

Sleeve to bypass done for acid reflux done on 03/04/2019. First 3-4 days were awful due to gas pain. I walked a ton, I prayed, I used essential oils, I laid on my left side, my right side, did Yoga poses, used a heating pad, put my knees to my chest face down and rocked back and forth & side to side, took Miralax, stopped taking my prescription pain meds and nothing seemed to help! I could burp but couldn’t pass gas. Finally by the end of day four after countless ours of praying .... it happened! I’ve never been so excited and happy to fart in my life! The surgery pain is minimal but that gas pain was wicked! Day five I felt AMAZING! I couldn’t believe the difference. No pain, I could twist, bend, and turn without any problems. I’m on day six and feel great BUT.... I got on the scale and have gained weight! I haven’t cheated! I’ve been on broth, ice chips and Crystal Light Water. How is this possible? I didn’t do this for weight loss but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope to lose some weight! Starting weight was 216.8. Pre-op I was 208. Post-op today I’m 213.8. WTH? My post op appointment is on the 14th. Anyone else have this issue? Interested in hearing people who have had the sleeve to RNY and how much you have lost. My doctor told me not to expect to lose a large amount of weight by having this procedure, but everyone I have known that has had it has lost at least 70 pounds or more. I’d like to think I will at least get into a healthy BMI range but feeling defeated.

    The dreaded gas

March 4th gastric bypass for me and gas has been by far the worst part of my experience! I’d rather give birth unmedicated to triplets !

    March 2019 sleepers

I never had acid reflux prior to my sleeve. My dad and five of his siblings have died of esophageal cancer so my doctor was kinda freaking out about it. The roux n y supposedly should fix the acid reflux issue

I am scheduled for March 4th. Would love to stay connected to you all. I am doing a sleeve to bypass revision due to severe acid reflux. I am also having a hiatal hernia repair and my gallbladder removed.

    March 2019 group?

I’m set for March 4th! Would love to be added to the Gastric Bypass March 2019 group, but I’m new on here and not sure how to do it.
  9. I never had hunger before this surgery, but now I feel like I'm starving! I can only tolerate warm water, broth & occasionally tea. I too have the rumbling in my stomach. I'm taking Protonix, so I'm thinking it is true hunger. The thought of food disgusts me. I have trouble and dread every sip of water I take because of the feeling like someone is squeezing my stomach & the air trapped in my chest.

    3 days post op

I'm 5 days post op and still having it. Warm liquids for me have helped it be not so severe.
  11. I was sleeved July 1st too. Discharged yesterday. Wondering what in the heck I have gotten myself into! WOW! Never thought I was a wuss, but seriously thinking I might be. I've already had issues with dehydration, nausea, back pain, and it feels like someone is squeezing my stomach every time I take a sip of water. I cannot tolerate anything but warm broth, water, and occasionally tea. Only pain med I can tolerate is Tylenol and it doesn't help much. I have gained 20 pounds and look like the Michellin man! So swollen! I'm scheduled to have additional IVF's tomorrow because I'm not getting in enough fluids. Headache, trapped air bubbles in chest, back pain & nausea is the worst. Anyone else having any of these issues?

    July Sleevers - Post Here!

I had my sleeve on July 1st. Gas pain, nausea have been my biggest problems. I walked 2 hours after surgery which helped more than anything. I've had a rough few days! The Lortab pain medication knocks me out. Then I get behind on my fluids. Then my blood sugars drop & I'm nauseated. Couldn't pee on POD 2. Gave me additional fluids and have been fine since. I cannot tolerate sugar free jello or Popsicles so basically it has been broth, tea, & water. I have been hungry! Different than before, but actually more than it was pre-op. feeling very frustrated. Any suggestions welcome!
