A little over two years out and thrown right back into my fat days...
qnz234 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
i was at a retirement party for an SVP. a lot of big wigs were there. while on the line for dinner, a former manager, who never really spoke to me when i worked for him, asked me in front of someone and whoever else was in earshot range "Jennifer you've lost weight! what did you do?!" i simply smiled a huge smile and said "I had surgery!", turned back around and laughed inside at the look of shock on his face. PRICELESS! i loved every minute of it. what a prick! HA! im laughing right now...i swear the look on his face was everything. -
i had this issue...i had a random man at work come up to me and say "whatever youre doing, keep doing it. you look great!" i dont kno that man from a hole in the wall. but ppl watch. your real friends wont even realize how big you were. but ppl def fall out of the woodworks, and it can f**k up ur psyche...but it's a sad truth. i had to learn not to feel a way about it. i kind of got joy out of curving the ppl who wanted no parts of me then, and tried to talk to me now. petty lol i kno, but still it helped at the time. when i went to my support group and discussed this, the facilitator said something that we hav to keep in mind. most times when we are overweight, we are less confident, less approachable. when we lose the weight, we feel more confident and we exude it. people pick up on that, and are compelled to say something. when you put it that way, perhaps people arent all that shallow. it wont stop though. as long as there are people who havent seen you in a good while. but you will discern who's genuine. keep up with your good work!

Another Lap Band vs. Sleeve question..
qnz234 replied to Leesa926's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When i did my research, after my dr suggested i sleeve (initially i wanted rny), after i read about the lap band needing a permanent port, and all the possible complications with this foreign object in my body...it was already a no brainer. sleeve it is. they say there isnt long term data...but i found some decent statistic for patients overseas in europe. so just do thorough, relentless research. best of luck with your final choice. -
im in! currently 110, goal is 100...maybe 95...depends on where im at on the 13th, and how i feel. i DEFINITELY need some accountability.

Feeling fuller sooner at times and other times feel I can eat more?
qnz234 replied to Cuckoolady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
personally, i think it depends on the density of the food. meats i can only get down but so much...white fish i can eat a lot of, i can eat A LOT of crab meat thank goodness lol...shrimp...depends on how cooked...the tougher it is, i can eat less of it. the mushier it is...the more of it i can eat -
Swallowed gum and having a stomachache.
qnz234 replied to gwenbfine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i dont even think youre supposed to chew gum...introduces too much gas into your system. consult your surgeon -
What kind of exercise are you guys doing?
qnz234 replied to ldean7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, follow your surgeon's orders. walking is fine for now. you will get clearance to do more later. be sure that she doesnt overstep her boundaries. this is your journey, not hers. -

the other night, i was out with my bf, and i confessed to him, that sometimes when im out i still feel like the overweight woman i was before surgery. i forget that i've lost close to 80 lbs and i look damn good for my efforts. it's usually when i see a really slender or nicely built woman. sometimes people stare at me (im 4'8" btw), and im defensive (in my head and via my facial expressions), like wtf are u looking at? i'm two years out and this is still happening. am i the only one? i think i need to go to the next support group meeting. lol -

Last year I bought my first bikini ever in life. Because even as a youngin I had a little pudge and a tankini was as far as I'd go. But when I bought this bikini, I said fuck it! I may still hav some gut and back fat to lose, but damn it I've come a long way! And imma get this and I'm gonna enjoy the water! And please believe me when I tell, i will be wearing much less when I'm on the beach for my 30th birthday, whether I make my goals or not! It's time to live! -

qnz234 replied to qnz234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that is quite the possibility. i've always been a humble person, even before i gained the weight. so now it's just like a bunch of thoughts...is my gut showing? do my legs look crazy? lol should i not be wearing this? lol but then i have to tell myself, screw them...i've certainly seen worse, and damn it, it took a lot to get here lol...but if they are thinking good things...then i just need to get out of my own head. -

as far as regular liquor and spirits go, do be careful. lawd! when i tell u it takes NOTHING to get me drunk these days?! omg...i've gotten a bit better at knowing my new limit...but shit...i was a plum fool at first...so take it easy with the regular cocktails and such -
Initially i wanted RNY because my sister had it. but when i went to the dr, he suggested the sleeve. i wasnt too comfortable with my stomach being removed at first. but as time went a long, i realized the sleeve is the best option for me. mainly because there was no issues with absorption, no rerouting of my intenstines, and weight loss was slow and steady. almost like a non-wls person. but had similar results to the rny, and better results than the lapband. research, research, research. your surgeon will make a professional suggestion. go from there. we can all give you our opinions and stories...i honestly, for the most part, based my decision off of the statistics that i found while researching. even my friends who see my progress and want the surgery to, i encourage them if it's what they want/need...but i still say do your research. good luck.

you get used to them. ur stomach will make more noise than ever! my gastroenterologist says this is normal, and actually signs of a healthy system. those pains used to be unbearable tho...but these days...i acknowledge them...i attempt to eat with eyes, only to take a couple of bites and boom...im done. lol my bf laughs at me all the time. good luck to you all...

i drink it...just a small sip...burp, and keep on. i dont like flat anything. try it and see...but dont overdo it if your belly takes well. i was drinking too much soda at one point. cuz i love the burps! but it was causing other issues, so i cut back. and dont drink too fast...omg...painful! takes me 2-3 days to finish a bottle of soda unless im craving. beer, i almost never finish it...a few sips and im good. oh btw i dont drink regular beer...i drink the angry orchard and apple flavored ciders...or a specialy beer like the samuel adams thingamabob...good luck -

the only way you will fail after surgery is if you continue your old habits. i dont kno how long your qualification process was, but thats the time you take to get your mind right about eeeeeeverything. well at least thats what i did. trust me when i tell you, my love, even without a strict pre-op diet (i didnt have one), you wont be able to eat crazy...ur stomach is so small a tablespoon will hav you full. and that is no exaggeration. it sounds preposterous, i know. and it feels crazy too in the beginning. but when youre two years out, like me, and ur sleeve is STILL working...you will kno that failure was never an option. do not overeat! i repeat, do not overeat...it's so counterproductive. u will have a strict diet the first few weeks...and u will stick to it...afterwards, when youre on solids, now it's your time to shine. time to eat right with the occasional indulgence. you got this! piece of cake! pun intended -

awwwww that made me smile....thanks @@OKCPirate -
it's possible you gained some muscle mass...weight doesnt always equal fat. and hell if it is fat, hey, it happens. your new tool still works, besides, your body is also trying to figure out wth happened to it. "trusting the process" such an important phrase. trust the process, more importantly, trust yourself. youre on the right track. hell i need to get back to working out myself. thanks for the motivation on that front!

WHATS REALLY GOING ON?!
qnz234 replied to danetteperez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you dont want to lose too fast. that will cause more excess skin than u will probably already have, especially if weight lifting isnt in your regimen. for the average person who hasnt had WLS it is recommended that they lose slowly, 1-2 lbs for healthy, steady, and long term weight loss. people who are heavier will lose faster than you. thats just the way it is. if you go off of others, u will drive yourself crazy. worry about yourself only. like a previous poster said, it doesnt matter in the end how long it took. as long as it's gone. -
