  1. Ty all. I'm also super stressed about the preop diet. My surgeon says 2 weeks of protein shakes and water only. No idea how I'll survive it.
  2. I'm a nurse, and I would say try the sleeve. It also treats diabetes. Rny will not cure u, no surgery will, if u are not compliant nothing will save your kidneys.

  5. I just left my shrink appointment which was the last hurdle I needed to jump through..called the office and asked when we can submit to Insurance and they said my insurance does not require prior authorization so my date should be in about 4 weeks. Holy h e double hockey sticks. That is soon! I'm so beyond excited!!

    BCBS of MI PPO? Anyone?

Hey! Just left the shrink. Called my surgeon and they said bcbs of mi does not do prior authorization so your requirements are verified by the office, you have surgery and then they submit to Insurance. Good luck!
  7. I could lose 90-120lbs to be healthy. Anyone lost around that much and not have droopy skin?? Post your pics if you dare
  8. Wow!! Thank God I have my psych eval tomorrow or I might go nuts. I was just tagged in a photo and I had no idea I looked this way!! Holy f**k!! That's the only way to describe how im feeling. I'm so happy I found this site because all the positive outcomes have helped me know that this is for sure right for me. Well, that and this horrifying pic.

    BCBS of MI PPO? Anyone?

I have bcbs of mi and am having surgery at Hurley. My psych eval is 7-30 and then we will submit to insurance. I'll let you know how it goes.
  10. All I had to do was get a waiver from my pcp, who didn't require anything from me, get my medical records from the last 2 years and a psych eval. I see other people getting endoscopy and other things. It's odd to me that this is all I need? My psych eval is Tuesday and then were submitting to Insurance. I'm scared they will come back at me with "Oh we forgot u need this and this and this." did anyone else not have to do much? My only comorbidity is high cholesterol.
  11. I have 7,2 and 2 month old daughters. Baby will be a few months older when I have surgery but I always question if I'm doing the right thing by them. I don't want them growing up with a weight obsessed mom. My 7 year old the other day said "soon you will be able to wear pretty outfits instead of yoga pants, aren't you glad about that?" ugh I didn't know such a little person could have any idea that I HATE what I wear most of the time. Just wondering if anyone else has small children and how they are reacting to surgery?

    Damn..you are fine!
  13. Uhhh I'm going crazy. I have met the 6 months of diet, gotten my medical records, gotten the medical clearance..now I'm just waiting on my psych eval. My appointment was the 9th but my sitter showed up too late and I missed it. I cried, and reschuled for the 30th. I am going insane! I know it's only a couple weeks but surgery is all I think about. Every time I look in the mirror I think "it's ok, you will have surgery soon." should I be torturing myself with another diet that I won't stick to while I wait for a surgery date? I have 3 small kids and work full time as a nurse so it's not like I don't have anything to do but surgery is always floating around in my mind. I just want my approval already!!
  14. As a nurse I know different types of anesthesia require intubation and some don't. I'm not an OR nurse though so I'm not sure if the sleeve will require me to be intubated. That part freaks me out the most.
  15. Is this a normal thought presurgery? I can't stop thinking..what if I die and my kids don't have a mom all because I wanted to be skinny? I'm a nurse so I know the risks of surgery and I actually had a patient once who stroked while having gastric bypass and now she's thin but she poops and drools on herself in a nursing home all day. Does anyone else worry about dying or am I the only nut?

    MICHIGAN SLEEVERS OUT THERE?

Lori my surgery will be at hurley with dr.farhan also. It seems like hes pretty much an expert. I am a litte worried though, because I have a few acquaintances from nursing school who work on the burn unit/bariatric icu at Hurley and they all say they would never get the surgery. They also say the bariatric patients are treated poorly. How was your experience there? I assume my surgery will be in September as I just have to do my psych appointment next week and then I'm done with my requirements. I'm happy to have found someone who had dr. Farhan and is happy with him
  19. I already had my six months of weight loss documented, and the only thing I'm waiting on is the psych eval which is next week. After that how long should it take for approval? And do they approve on a case by case basis, or am I good as long as I meet the standard criteria? I have bcbs of mi. Thanks!
  20. I had a pretty messed up childhood, suffer from moderate anxiety and hate my job. Will any of this prevent me from being approved for surgery? I feel like I should just lie and pretend I'm perfectly normal. What exactly are they looking for?
