  1. Dayumm!! You seriously turned back the clock.
  2. The idea of invasive surgery SHOULD provoke our spouses concern about the safety of the procedure. It did concern my husband quite a bit, but it was my job to educate him, like I educated myself, of the risks vs benefits. He has a right to his opinion, but you have the right to make your own decision. He's probably worried about you, and how this will affect his life ( and it will to a certain extent) .Let him know why this is so important to you, and stand confident with your decision.

    Quest Protein Bars

I always have one in my purse. It prevents me from eating crap when I am hungry and away from home , running errands and such. 10 months out and still have not stopped at a single fast food joint. I am fortunate that they aren't a trigger food for me . Love them so much that it am taking them on my cruise vacation as a back up plan instead over indulging or skipping meals .

    NSV & officially overweight

Congrats on the loss and the lab coat. I not -so-affectionately called my lab coat my "cloak of invisibility" . You can hide anything under them . Proudly wear the smallest size you , show your stuff!

    Labor day Challenge

Oh no , Kelly! Feel better soon.
  7. I am coming up on 10 months also. You truly are a skinny girl now. I completely understand the head games portions of this trip. Walking past windows and seeing my reflection but it still doesn't feel like me. The reflection is someone I am hoping to be . My head needs to catch up with wardrobe! Awesome job!

    Labor day Challenge

Thanks for taking the baton, Gomekast. My weight today is 156 ( up 2 from last challenge, hrrumpffff!). My goal is 148 for Labor day. We'll see, I need to kick my self back into high gear.

    Soooo... Whad I miss?!

Your post is so timely for me as I have a 7 day cruise to Bahamas coming up in 2 weeks . My take-away points : 1) A regular size bottle of sunscreen will be sufficient for safety and an overall glow. 2) liquid hydration is very important. Start with Water and move on the premium goods. ( yup, I can do that!) 3) Get a cute hat 4) Practice a proper "elbow thrust" to prepare for the buffet. I want the fresh meats, not leftovers! 5) leave the prized jewels at home. Dancing the night away can be a contact sport. 6) Less ican be more . Welcome back !
  12. I went forward with my WLS plans full steam ahead after I, too , lost my father. Though he passed quickly from cancer, he struggled with diabetes , heart and respiratory trouble , arthritis all associated with obesity through the second half of his life. I feel in my heart that I did this for both of us. My condolences on your loss .

    You're so vain...

I'll admit it, I wanted to be healthier , but dammit, I was tired of being the fattest friend in my group. That was my true agenda . There , that was cathartic!

    From waddle to wattle

I'm 52 definitely a Turkey-terian. My neck was the very first place I saw sagginess post op. Oh well, everything else is much better than before. I have let my hair grow a little bit this summer and low and behold- a tight, neat ponytail or twist minimizes the neck situation a bit for me. At least I believe it does and that is half the battle!

    Profession after surgery?

I am a nurse by profession, but I am a good cook. Before my VSG, I didn't bake because I was afraid I would eat what I made. I love cooking and baking now , I am no longer afraid of eating the "goodies". Like the others poster mentioned , I crave protein based foods now- not the sugary empty calorie ones . Weird

    Whats your "full" signal?

After 9 months, a runny nose is still my first sign.

    Bad taste/bad breathe

Seriously, this means you are doing the low carb thing correctly. I invested in listerine breath strips at Costco. They helped a lot.
  19. I am at my goal of 155. At this point, 9 months post op, I am losing approx 1 lb a week; 4-5 per month. I have no clue when this stop. I am so grateful.

    Weight Gain Panic

I have found that when my weight loss halts for a little while, my body is changing sizes. ( moving down) . Relax. This will happen from time to time .

    White tongue! eeeekkkk

It could dehydration or thrush ( yeast / candida) . Thrush is common after antibiotics or steroid usage. Since you are 4 days post op, this is possible. Dehydration is also possible but you would probably have other symptoms such as concentrated urine or poor skin turgor. Normally candida can be helped by yogurt or acidophilus capsules. At 4 days out , you need MD assistance for medical instructions. PS it will get better, promise!
  24. Are you still on your blood sugar medications? You can be hypoglycemic. You should definitely have your blood sugar checked . Borrow somebody's if you have to. Make sure to discuss this with your surgeon. He may want to review your current medications and hydration status . Feel better
  25. After my second " why don't you try dieting and exercise one more time" speech, I changed my response. My inner smart ass came out. I thanked them for new insight that dieting and exercise would help me lose weight, since obviously I had NEVER tried it before. Not my finest moments, but what was said, was said. But I must add that this put a quick end to their zealous concerns.
