    It's been a while....

GG. Glad to see you here. I have enjoyed your blog through out the last year. Terrific recipes, btw. Our starting and current stats are very similar . My original goal was 155, got down to 148 but 150 seems to be where my body is most comfortable. You are so right about carb sensitivity! I can restrict my calories all I want , but throw in some real carbs and- boing -boing -boing, up I bounce. Please post your PS experiences. I am approved by 3 surgeons and insurance for a TT , but I'm putting it off until spring. Scared, I guess, but it needs to be done. Lotsa luck!
  2. I found during my first year sleeved, that my stalls were accompanied by size changes ( drops) . It seems the the body needs to shift around. Relax - you've got this!

    By definition; I'm 'normal'.

When I hit "normal", I kept waiting for the balloons and confetti to drop. It never did. My broken mirror keeps focusing on stupid things like my FFOPA (folded-fat-over-pelvic-area) I have to laugh at my naked self, though. In the mirror, I see a blob wearing a "Janet " suit. My skin dangles haphazardly from different areas and the girls have gone from 44DD to 36 long! I definitely see the humor in this reflection. On the days this gets me down, I tuck my mushy 53 year old ass into my size 6 skinny jeans , zip up my knee boots put on something sparkly, and say "screw it. I've got this!". Stupid lying mirrors.

How to deal with fat friends

I struggled with this question pre-op, not because of privacy concerns , but because I didn't want to debate or defend my decision to have surgery. ( weight was 230 and bmi of. 37) . Post op , I explained to those who asked that I had sleeve surgery. I would rather people have the truth from me. The truth shuts down gossip pretty quickly. I am a nurse working in a large medical center and I will say that because of my candor, people (coworkers I barely know !) seek me out for advice , support and ask all kinds of questions. I feel blessed to be able to be help out.

    1 year today!

Congrats on your one year mark! You look beautiful. I just had mine last month also and I'm still trying to get used to the changes in my life. Shopping still confuses the heck out of me! I have no sense of "what is my size?" . I can not wrap my head around being a size 6. I definitely look better in clothing due to all the extra skin. My docs ( 3 of them) are encouraging plastics/ tummy tuck for me, but I'm going to wait a bit longer. How's your skin doing? Our stats are similar (5'6" and 150 lbs at 13 months p/o.) What a difference a year makes
  9. A true hour glass , hubba hubba profile . Excellent!

    Honest thoughts before my surgery

I was tired of being the "funny fat friend" and the fluffy grandma. I just wanted to be me. I hated shopping, photos and dreaded seeing old friends because of my embarrassment over my size. Flash forward, I'm healthy , happy and outgoing again. I must admit , my sleeve is gift I gave myself.

    Finally achieved a normal BMI!

Congrats! It's a great feeling to "be normal". It's an accomplishment that we in the forums understand so well.

    Halloween challenge

150 lbs today . I hope to cross to the 140s next week ( fingers crossed)
  15. 5'6 and 84 lbs down. These pics are at 1 week pre op and 10 months out. I have dropped another size since then.

    Salads

Even after a year, salads do not hold the appeal they used to have for me. It's like lettuce is too much work. It takes up a lot room , and doesn't leave enough room for protein ( chicken, egg, etc) . I am left feeling full AND hungry at the same time. Spinach goes down easier than ice berg or Romaine lettuce. My salads consist of tomato slices, cukes or other chopped veggies, but in pretty small quantities and mixed with meats or cheese.
  17. Hubba Hubba!!! Happy surgerversary
  18. I went to a retirement party for a former co-worker last night. I hadn't seen the majority of guests in over a year. I walked into the restaurant rocking my nicest skinny jeans and received my favorite comment yet . One of my former colleagues didn't recognize me at all and then came up behind me and said "I recognized your voice , but not your ass" . I literally lol'd . She was so blunt and genuinely surprised and she just kept hugging me. It was honest, funny, odd and sweet all at the time much like this entire last year. Happy one year surgeraversary to me !

    Telling co-workers!

I, too, work for the hospital where I had my surgery. Even though we have strict privacy laws/ rules, I decided to tell my coworkers about my surgery. I preferred to eliminate the inevitable whispers before it started. Keeping secrets is hard work. Dealing with this topic head on worked well for me, and has allowed me to educate others about the whole process.

    Excess skin - warning photos

Thanks for the photos. Like yourself, I can camoflauge my jiggly bits pretty well. I actually call my extra skin my " janet suit". The extra skin amuses me at times. It floats in the pool, and can be picked up and tucked in my pants. Hey it could be worse, right? PS Doc says I qualify for a tummy tuck now, but I will wait another 6 months I think.
  22. We did a pinball party. It was one of those places that are pay-one-price for all games. I ordered a couple of pizzas for the group as a snack, but we were mostly too busy to eat it. We all had a blast! ( and the leftover pizza was enjoyed by the staff. ) Happy Birthday!
