Long term vsg implications
swimbikerun replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I prefer to warn people about investigating their surgeon very, very, carefully. Mine did a number of things because he had his own biases and didn't check or send me to someone and blew me off when I asked if the gastroparesis could have been causing my problems after surgery. I live in Hampton Roads area. -
Long term vsg implications
swimbikerun replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have gastroparesis and they use the bariatric surgeries for them. I have neuropathies, etc. because of when I get food in, what, etc. I still have the gastroparesis, developed reflux/GERD and IBS. It happens. You can still live, you just might be visiting the doctor more than you thought and eating differently but its survivable. -
Red meat, fair amount of dairy, lots of things. As long as I am not on a PICC line, midline or anything but an occasional banana bag or fluids, I'm good with it.

Sleeved on April 13th and oblivious what to do.
swimbikerun replied to sc09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You keep calling. Use the patient portal if they have one. This soon out after surgery if a doctors' office isn't getting back to you, they should be reported as many places as possible. This is not the time to be using a forum where any one and everyone can give advice that may or may not be what your surgeons office does. -

Did a 10K 3 weeks and 1 day after surgery. Released to swim 2 days short of a month. -
As someone who had a surgeon problem, I can understand and commiserate well. I am so very sorry about the personalities.

3 meals or 6? How much do you y'all eat? (Post- op vets)

Hmmm. It depends on the food. If it is salad or a sandwich I load veggies and don't care. Anything else, I make sure to keep it to once a day. That way I can't eat enough for it to be a problem.

Have you spoken with a doctor on it?

Long-term stories wanted
swimbikerun replied to QTR-nevermore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am over 5 years out. I guess you have to define success. My goal when I had the surgery was to be able to do the things I wanted to do in life. I didn't exactly reach that goal for other things but it wasn't a total loss. I've learned a lot about what you want in a surgeon and support groups. I've learned just how rotten people are, and how some are good. There is more to life than losing weight. Your life gets affected by more than the weight loss. We need to talk not only in terms of weight loss but of life. -
This doesn't sound right by any surgeon I have ever heard of. Ensure is a lot of sugar also. Something isn't right here. Is this surgeon online and do they have or are recommended with anything by the ASMBS? Totally smells - and no offense.

Choosing a Weight Loss Surgeon: Beyond the Numbers

Can I add to this since I had a surgeon who ended up following me on public property a few times? -
On a vegetarian diet, vegan diet, there is NEVER ANY recognition of protein deficiencies. B12 yes, but never protein. I have no idea why people can say there is no protein in anything but red meat or poultry. If you look up the makeup of foods, there is protein in a lot of things.

Rectal Intussusception/Pelvic Floor Prolapse
swimbikerun replied to Indegestible76's topic in Fitness & Exercise
This isn't something any one on the boards here can help you with. You'd have to talk to the surgeon or get a second opinion. -
Have you spoken with the surgeon's office? This is common and they should have warned you about it. Its more than likely due to sugar/caffeine removal and lower calories than anything else. I didn't cold turkey anything. I spent 3 weeks before weaning off caffeine/sodas. Not touched a drop in years. I didn't have a problem but if you cold turkey anything, that's what will happen.

Why aren't you asking yoru doctor since you are still under their care and its so soon after surgery?

Dallas Area Surgeons....Fraud ??????
swimbikerun replied to rking's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
No, but glad you brought it up. Everyone is more into the Christopher Duntsch issue. -
YAY! A good back rub and long pets are probably appreciated too. That would get your arms moving. One of the problems with many of the exercise recommendations (for the most part) is walking or running, then a bike or something. That doesn't really get those arms moving. Moving the arms, core, etc. help.

I'm glad you got out and exercised. Remember though, how you felt when you were out of shape and pushed into doing some exercise you don't want to do. Give them a small start and build up as you are doing (I hope).
