Hi Sara, I know what you mean I am also feeling like giving up, but my hubby and friends tell me not to give up until the last appeal is denied. So would you schedule your surgery for December break? Will that give you enough recoup time? Have you looked into surgeons? Good luck with everything, hoping for a positive outcome.

Hi Sara UAE, How is your appeal going? Thank goodness you don't have apnea, I have asthma as well and the cpap triggers it. Although, it would help the appeal, so not worth it. How long have you been at the 41BMI? Have you been over 40, other times over the years? I hope it all works out for you. This process has been so disheartening.

Thanks Italian-girl, the doc did not mention adding a personal letter to appeal. I will definitely do that. I need back surgery and at this weight the surgery would be very invasive (front and back incisions, with 2 surgeons) if I lose weight the surgery options open up. I am in horrific pain everyday. I have pre-diabetes, sleep apnea and high bp. I am scared, I have an 8 y/o autistic son and fear I won't be there to help him when he is older. He is high functioning, but that is with constant therapy and support. I am an only child and both my parents are gone. I will start the letter tomorrow, along with the letter with my son's diagnosis. Thx :-)

I have been denied by Aetna. My BMI Has been 40-43 over the last three years. I have high blood pressure that is controlled by medication. Have sleep apnea, asthma that acts up with the cpap. My doctor just did a peer to peer with a doctor from Aetna (non-bariatric) and he insisted my sleep Apnea was not severe enough. My doctor repeatedly pointed out that the sleep Apnea was ultimately irrelevant because my bmi has been over 40 for over 2 years and that I meet all requirements listed in their booklet 0157. The doctor indicated I will be denied again. Does anyone have any clue what I can do. My doctor is even baffled. Help please.

Thanks Nesa, I called today. Seems I need two comorbidities and my Apnea (I wake 100 times per hour) is not severe enough. I have hypertension and am pre-diabetic. So we r doing more tests to see if I have moved to the diabetic side. Thanks for the tip. :-)

I was denied as well. I am very confused. They say my bmi is too low. It has been 41-43 for 2.5 years and I have moderate sleep apnea. The girl that handles the insurance is on medical leave so there is no one to re-submit in the two weeks I have. I am sad and frustrated.

I am pleased everything is going well. I can't wait till I am on the losers bench. I only lost 3 lbs a month on the supervised diet so I am now 22 down. It would be nice to lose even 10 lbs a month :-). Have you had any cravings? Hunger? Notice any changes in skin? Hair? Sorry im so nosy :-P

Hi Everyone, I am in Lake Forest, but getting sleeved at Scripts Green in San Diego. I've done all my pre-op in Del Mar and love doc and staff:) anxiously waiting for insurance approval. Starting working out 4 weeks ago, hoping my body will handle the surgery better. Also because I am scared out of my mind.

Hi Nickie, I know every doc is different, but my doc said he had his patients take nexium or protonix twice a day for first month. Because many have problems with reflux. Also most will not have reflux or need the medication after the first month. Good luck.

Sounds like you are doing so well. I admire that you are going back to work so soon. I can only hope I will do as well. I have heard about the gas pains. Glad to know walking helps. It is facinating that moving helps the healing. That would be counter intuitive for me. So thankful for this site and the sharing, I am learning a lot. Still scared, but feeling more confident everyday. My insurance says they should know by the 15th yea or nea. Be careful tomorrow.

I am sorry your pain went up yesterday, how was it today? Glad to hear it was not as bad as you thought. You have such a great positive attitude. I am pre-op and really appreciate you taking the time to log your journey and what helps. How's it going with the liquids? What can you have this week? Hope you are better everyday. :-)

On my Aetna policy it is bulletin 0157. I guess it makes sense since companies have different policies and coverage.
