slvrsax got a reaction from Tate777 in Quest Bars- How Often?
I eat two a week only because for me (and only for me, not saying this is the case with everyone) they could be a slider. I tend to crave sweets, if I eat more than 2 a week I crave sweets more. I take a 6pm strength class twice a week and have one before class because the carbs help get me through using all those large muscle groups. I always carry a Quest bar in my purse. The other day I was out running errands and found myself unexpectedly hungry so rather than make a poor choice I had my emergency Quest bar! Another bonus is they help keep me regular.
My biggest problem is keeping my family out of my bars! I burned out on any of the chocolate flavors and prefer lemon, berry and coconut.
I see some of the Protein bar companies coming out with "minis", I hope Quest does the same thing because 200 calories seems like a lot sometimes!

This is quite an interesting journey! The thing that has surprised me most is the energy I have. I'm doing 2.5 hours zumba, 2 hours of strength training per week and I just started C25K (3 half hour running sessions per week). I'd like to do a 5K in October. I used to be quite fond of coming home from work and spending the evening in the recliner. Not any more, I can't sit still for that long! My eating is pretty good, but it is not perfect. I would say I'm "behaved" but not deprived 95% of the time and throw caution to the wind the other 5% usually on a weekend day. This past weekend I had cake AND about 10 skittles. The cake nauseated me a little because frankly the piece I had was probably too much. It had whip cream in the frosting and foods that have air in them tend to bother me, anyone else have that problem? I'm also back to having some dizzy spells when I stand. I've increased my Water and my Protein to try to figure out why that is. I've also stopped taking a bariatric Vitamin and moved to a whole foods based vitamin with Iron.
So fun to watch everyone's progress!

Great message however the method of delivery leaves a little to be desired. I agree - I find it offensive and I'm not that easily offended.

Kindle, the surgical clinic called me to set up a consult. My doc definitely wants it out. I declined for now. Dr. So also told me just to go ahead and get it out because I run the risk of pancreatitis if I don't. I'm so close to hitting my 100 lbs lost, I want to reach that goal before I schedule surgery. How bad is that? I know surgery will put me on an exercise break for probably six weeks. Without exercise my weight loss will stall. I'm afraid of losing momentum with my exercise as I'm on such a good roll. I just started C25K yesterday. Seeing what you went through, I am now reconsidering!

Love the idea of a fitness challenge. Don't love the disparaging name. You know what the truth is - I was morbidly obese. I hate the word obese - I actually somehow find it more troubling then being called a fatty, but it is the correct medical term for my condition. Even though I have lost weight, I still have the disease of obesity - have been forever changed by it physically and will always have the tendency to regain weight (more than people who were never obese).
However, that doesn't define who I am as a person and I think that is where the name calling stings. I am first me a person - cowgirljane - I am a mother, a sister, a project leader, a friend, a traveler, a thinker, a writer and a whole lot of other things.
Reason some of us are sensitive to this is a lifetime of seeing ourselves as that "fatty" rather than seeing ourselves as a full person. I am at goal (been there awhile) and guess what - even though my physical appearance is completely different, my heart and soul and other talents and traits remain.

Your arrogance is going to get you into trouble.
You are being rude to the people here on this board.
You want to call yourself a "Fatty" then go right ahead but don't label the people on this board like that.
You're going about talking to people here in the wrong manner.
If you continue like this someone will report you for being offensive and I don't think you want that to happen.
People come here to be encouraged not to be called names.
    Think about.

slvrsax reacted to Kindle in So whats your meal plan 6 or more months out now
I'm six months out and I don't measure or anything, so please forgive the lack of amounts in my description. I have never tracked my calories, so no help there, either. I basically eat when I'm hungry and just until I'm not hungry anymore. Mostly Protein, veggies, fruit and Water. I don't usually eat Pasta, rice or bread, but I have had them on a rare occasion.
Breakfast... Workdays is something quick I nibble on while feeding dogs and horses and getting ready in the morning. Cottage cheese with peaches, an apple, premade spinach, sausage and cheese mini quiche, hard boiled egg, etc. last week I even had some leftover prime rib and sweet potato fries.
Weekends I will sit down for a civilized Breakfast. A one egg omelet with whatever I've got available..... cheese, sausage, spinach, bacon, mushrooms, green chilis, salsa.... I made a batch of Protein pancakes and froze them and they are great with butter, maple Syrup and a turkey sausage patty. Huevos Rancheros is another favorite weekend breakfast.
Daytime Snacks and lunch.... I am on the road all day and I don't get a lunch break so my work days consist of Snacks and Protein drinks. I make up a big protein smoothie 24-32oz, 30-40g protein with benefiber and Metamucil to bring along. Flavors vary .....chocolate with a banana, cake batter/hazelnut/Carmel, Peanut Butter, cake batter with blueberries, apple cranberry, orange cherry, vanilla/gingerbread, etc. I drink 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon. I also nibble on mixed nuts, sesame sticks, a protein or whole grain Fiber bar, cheese sticks, beef Jerky and pumpkin seeds. I don't have any set lunch or snack times, but I'm usually eating every 3 hours. On top of the smoothie, I also get in a travel mug of Decaf coffee and a liter of Water. I'll drink a big glass of V8 a couple times/ week.
On the weekends I get a lot more real food....I'll eat 5-6 mini meals, and not any snacks.
dinner.... If I get home before 6pm I will have two dinners. One I try to make heavy on veggies and the other protein heavy. I eat most anything. BBQ ribs, chicken salad on pita bites, elk, Chinese food, burgers, tacos, pork loin, roast beef, rotisserie chicken, turkey curry, seafood, ham, steak, brussel sprouts, Beans, corned beef, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, carrots, baked Beans, artichokes, tomatoes, avocados. Lately I haven't been getting home until 8-9pm, so I only get in one dinner. At night I have a cup of chamomile tea and sometimes some plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein powder or apples and Peanut Butter as a bedtime snack.
I also take a whole food based Multivitamin with Probiotics, Iron, and sublingual B12.
I have indulged in alcohol, cake, ice cream, cupcakes, cheesecake, noodles, fries, donuts, chips and English toffee, but they certainly aren't everyday treats. I hit my surgeons goal weight 3 weeks ago. I'm 2 pounds away from a "normal" BMI and I'm still losing at a rate of 1-2 pounds/week.

HW (High Weight) 293 in 2009 SW (Surgery Weight) 237-8 CW (Current Weight) 165.8 TPL (Total Pounds Lost) since SW about 72, since 2009 about 127 TGP (Total Goal Pounds) I originally planned to maintain 175 ish pounds so 118 tgp from highest or 63 tpg from SW. Been fluctuating between 165ish to 169 past month so I hope this range is my body set level cause I don't want to lose anymore. I'm toning up nicely with the help of my kickass hot yoga sessions, spin classes, moderate jogging and weight training. I am so addicted to the high of exercise theses days, I worked out prior to surgery too and always loved the feel good benefits, but I'm just so fully committed these days cause I don't want this surgery to be in vain. I want to maximize the assistance my sleeve provides me with in maintaining weightloss. Fitness also helps prevent me from smacking ppl, haha! Vsg 121213

Stop drinking soda. Start taking a Multivitamin to establish the habit if you don't already. Start exercising even if it doesn't result in weight loss. I went on Amazon Local and bought a 10 class package of Zumba classes and started 2 months before surgery, I think this helped me heal better and helped my lung capacity. Now I'm hooked and it is my main form of exercise six months out of surgery. Stop drinking before/with your meals because you won't be able to drink and eat together anymore.

@@Dr-Patient I've seen your posts before but didn't realize we had our surgeries at the same time and we are currently about the same weight. I've been having similar struggles to yours starting at the same point in time - right after I dipped below 200 lbs. A few carbs here, a few there and BAM! Hunger is more, cravings are increased. Even something like a little milk and sugar free Syrup (artificial sweetners seem to trigger me, go figure) in coffee sets me off on the carb path. Just like you, it isn't much or in the volume it was before. Last week was the worst since pre-sirgery - I had six homemade Peanut Butter Cookies in the span of 3 days which resulted in the scale creeping up 2 lbs. I've since gotten it off. Weekends seem to be my hardest time, that and the evening after I get back from zumba. I 've made a few changes. I bought a more complete Multivitamin this weekend. I am banning crystal light as it has corn syrup solids. If I get hungry after a class - no carbs just a small Protein snack. Let me know if you find strategies that work!

Our culture is so food driven by both junk food and huge portions. Starbucks is wildly successful, I think their sucess has more to do with the fact that most of their drinks are absolute sugarbombs and Americans are SO hooked on sugar!
