    mom2twinsN1 reacted to Italiancurves in Survival skills for the 14 day pre-op diet
    Tomorrow starts day three of my 14 day pre-op diet.
    I will admit, I was rather nervous about it. My main concern was not having enough energy to get through my rather physical work day.
    I'm here to say... It's really not that hard.
    Everyone's pre op diet seems to be slightly different.
    Mine is 11 days of 900 cals (3 Protein shakes+ 1/2 cup lean chicken, fish or 1 egg/ 3 cups lettuce and a few sprays of fat free dressing)
    Days 12-14 are strictly clear liquid.
    I thought it would be nice to start a thread where ppl can post some good survival techniques to help those who are going to be doing their pre op diets and are nervous. Things that have helped you get through easier. Here's my list... Pls feel free to add your ideas as well. Lord knows I will probably need some of them as the days go on!
    1. I pre pack exactly what I need to consume throughout that day (including 90 oz water) in my ice chest. If it's not in my ice chest, it does not go in my mouth! (Aside from the Vitamins which I need to discontinue taking 7 days before surgery)
    2. When driving down the road...only look straight ahead...turning your head side to side means you'll be bombarded with all the evil food signs. And I personally think they posted a few extra food ads and restraunts since I started this diet two days ago! They are EVERYWHERE!
    3. If your favorite TV channel is the Food Network, like mine... Find a new favorite! I'm watching "Lock Up Raw" tonight... The food they feature on this program is certainly not making me hungry!
    4.once you've finished all the food/drink you can have for the day, if you're still hungry... Add crystal light or Dasani drops or something with flavor that you like to Water bottle and fill up on that!
    5. Stay busy! I've been working my a** off to make as much money as possible before I go down for post op recovery. The side benefit is that the day is over before I know it! I plan on staying super active Til they wheel me to O.R.
    Well that's all I have so far, might think of some more tips and hopefully others will too.
    2 down, 12 days to go!
    We got this
    Best wishes everyone...

    Tomorrow I will have my surgery at 1pm, for some people I'm not enought "fat" to have the surgery. Nobody's know how bad is our diets fights, years of overweight, but no, we have the right to make our dreams come true... I was approved in 24 hours, 35.2 bmi ( 199 and lose 15 pounds during preop diet) with diabetes, then high blood pressure, then high cholesterol, then I have to wait to be more fat or have more health problems to have the chance to get the surgery?
    No! I don't care about any negative comments in my family or friends. Im being doing a hard work for the last 20 years with yo-yo diets with no long-terms results.
    Now, I'm so happy because tomorrow is my surgery, and just want to tell with people like me, try, try and fight! Its your body and your health!
    Good luck to all new sleevers!!! Tomorrow its my day!!!!! Thanks God!

    So many:
    1. Adding up the weight of everyone in the elevator to make sure I don't push its capacity above limit;
    2. Pretending I want to stand up because I can't possibly fit in your plastic lawn chair;
    3. Not eating at a function because my dress won't fit post meal;
    4. Feeling the fold above my elbow hit the back of my forearm;
    5. Underwear rolling down below my belly;
    6. Apologizeing for my very existence at the grocery store;
    7. Not being sure I am "clean" everywhere;
    8. Being the person that by my presence gives everyone else permission to order dessert;
    9. Being a non-threat to insecure women!

    mom2twinsN1 reacted to Jen35 in 1st Beach Vacation Post-Sleeve (it rocked!)
    I just got back from Panama City Beach, FL and I'm proud to say I actually lost a couple pounds over vacation! That never would have happend pre-sleeve. The beach was such a different experience after losing 60 pounds. I could walk the beach without my thighs rubbing together (ladies, you know what I'm taking about). I had so much more energy to play with my kids and more confidence in a swimsuit. AND .... a guy hit on me at the bar! That has not happened in 15 years!! I'm married so I had to politely decline, but it made my day!
    My brother does photography and I had him take some family pics at the beach that I will post when I get them. They turned out really nice. I can't wait until next year at the beach when I'm at my goal weight.

    I'm not a fan of fat free or sugar free anything. I tried this today.. Infact it ended up as my dinner.. It was delicious and very satisfying. Coconut cream, chia seeds, a few raspberries and a tsp of raw cocoa nibs. I only had about 3oz.. I'm still full!!

    mom2twinsN1 reacted to megansmommy123 in Problems with protein, help?
    I had the same problem with the funny smell from the Protein Shakes. I tried several different brands, and they all were horrible. Not the taste, but the smell. I finally found one I love. It has no funny smell, or taste. I use Isopure Low Carb. I get it at GNC. I've only tried the dutch chocolate flavor, but I am sure the others are good too. I'm 3 months out and still do 2 shakes a day. I swear the Protein shakes are the key to how fast I have lost. I'm down 72 pounds at 3 months. I think the protein keeps me full, and keeps me from craving other foods.

    I have 3 straws...
    I was at my hair salon in November 2011 getting my hair colored and I went into the dressing room to put on a smock. None of them fit. I had to come back out of the dressing room and tell The stylist that they didn't fit. Next thing I know they are all looking throughout the salon for a clean smock that will fit. They couldn't find one so my stylist took his off and gave it to me (he's 6'3" and approx 240). I was 5'5" and 243. Needless to say I was so humiliated.
    The next month I get a call from my dad who lives alone. He's 400 lbs and 6'3". He says he can't feel his legs (diabetic neuropathy). We go pick him up and he can barely walk. Then he falls at my house and he is so heavy that we can't help him up so we call an ambulance. It takes 3 large men to get him off the floor. Then it hits me. Watching my father in this state is what my little boy will be doing with me if I don't get things under control. I don't want to put him through what my siblings and I have gone through to get my father proper care. It was very eye opening.
    In January, I start looking into WLS. This same month my little boy asks why we don't have any family photos. I made something up like I just liked taking pictures of him, but the reality is I never wanted my picture taken. This broke my heart. A few weeks into January and I run into a friend who had gastric sleeve surgery and she looked amazing. I decided that was Devine intervention a took the hint.
    I had my 1st appt later that month and surgery in March. I still have problems with those darn smocks, but now its because they are too big for me. This has been the best decision I have ever made (outside of my marriage and my child of course)!
    Thanks for reading.

    I had several but outside of high blood pressure, knee problems on and on...the "final" was...my husband said he wanted me around with him in retirement. Our daughter had the band and lost 70 lbs, it was the first time he was open to surgery as an option, and I was no longer afraid. He was tired of seeing me lose weight only to regain year after year and my struggles with hurt and failure.
    Someone said to me "How many morbidly obese senior citizens do you see?"

    When I got to the point when I couldn't put on socks..... had someone do that for me .... took me an hour to try to cut my toe nails, after struggling, huffing & puffing, couldn't play with my two girls or take them out for a walk..... standing up for more then 2 minutes was a pain... and one month before my surgery when I had an almost stroke, couldn't breath right and my feet were so swollen they looked like something out of a horror movie....

    I weighted 242 pounds and lost down to 175... and then gained it back in less than 6 months. Stress I guess. I noticed that it was getting harder and harder to walk and then my knee started to hurt all of a sudden. Really bad.
    I went to a doctor someone recommended. He did a CAT scan and said it was a bone bruise and it would get better. I went the next month and he still said the same thing even though it wasn't getting better. Finally I asked him to give me something for pain and he gave me a prescription for darvocet for one month. My friends said he wasn't doing anything for me and I should go to another doctor. I went to another doctor who acted like I was some kind of drug addict for changing doctors. But he gave me another prescription for darvocet. A few days later I forgot to take the darvocet and went to work and couldn't get up from my chair to go to the bathroom. I called my doctor and he was on vacation. I went to his backup doctor who actually diagnosed my arthritis but gave me arthritis medicine, how about that, a brace and a steroid shot. He told me if I didn't lose weight I would need knee replacement surgery in 5 years.
    Now, I had a doctor recommend WLS for me years before. But that was when most of the people you heard about getting WLS were over 300 lbs and I only weighed about 220. But now smaller people were getting it and I was facing a choice of knee replacement surgery or WLS. And then the wife of a friend of mine had gastric bypass surgery and lost 170 pounds. My friend kept at
    me to get it before it was too late.
    Then in April of last year, I met my beautiful new granddaughter Desiray. And I want to take her to the park and the beach - museums and festivals. Bike riding and swimming. And I want to move to Central America when I retire and be another grandma doing zip lines in Costa Rica with my granddaughter.
    Plus, the process has gotten me diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, sleep Apnea and something called Hypertension-Related Heart Disease, without Heart Failure

    I took my then 10 year old daughter to a Water park that had a lake that you could kayak or canoe. She was insistant that we each get a kayak. I told her I wasn't gonna fit in one but she persisted. I wedged by butt in one and it immediately sunk in the sand and got stuck. The kid working the area had to push me out and as soon as he did it tipped over. I then got in a canoe and rowed away. There were a lot of people in line watching and it was mortifying. I am 5'7" and was about 250 at the time. I knew that day I had to do something. There were also a couple of water slides with weight limits that I was slightly over. I can't wait to go back and do it all this time.

    My 14 year old son has been running cross country for the last 2 years. There are 1000 other reasons I wanted this surgery, but, the thought of me being able to go running with my son, still is something that drives me to push harder.
