  1. I started losing mine right around the 3 month mark. I decided to cut it short so it wouldn't be as noticeable both with it thinning out and with the regrowth. I'm just reaching my 9 month mark since surgery and it started slowly down considerably about a month ago. It's growing back so I have these little short hairs everywhere. The funny thing is that at my 6 month follow up with my surgeon, he said he never heard of people losing their hair.......really!

Anyway, yes it is a huge shock but it does come back. Also on that note, my hairdresser does notice a little bit of a change in the texture of my hair. Another thing to watch out for.

  2. I think the fact that you have a very supportive husband that already loves you for you is a major plus! You will definitely have more energy. I've lost 90lbs and have some rather unattractive wrinkly skin on my tummy and thighs. I recently started dating someone about 2 months ago and he constantly tells me that I look great to him. That's all that matters!

  3. I think this is something you should speak to your primary MD or your surgeon about. According to your BMI, you are still overweight. Will you get down below 225? Maybe, but once you level off you might put a few pounds back on so it's not a bad thing to have a few pounds "in the bank". Part of the issue may be that your pulmonologist may be used to seeing you at your heaviest and isn't used to seeing you at this weight. Ultimately it's your decision. Good luck!

  4. I've told just about everyone from family to co-workers. I have had nothing but great support from them all. Were some of them a little worried for me before going into surgery? Sure, but now that it is over and they see that I made it through fine and am healthier, they are even more happy for me.

You need to do what is right for you. I feel that I am very lucky to have such an amazing circle of people around me, but unfortunately not everyone is as lucky as I have been.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

  5. That's incredible! I would love to know what you did post op. I am scheduled for January 8th but my biggest fear is that I will do something wrong. I am somewhat picky but fine with eating the same thing over and over. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My pre-op program wasn't as strict as some of the others I've read about on here. Sure I had to watch what I ate and try to lose weight, but I only had to do Clear liquids the day before surgery, not for a couple of weeks like I've heard about. Post-op was pretty similar to others. Full liquids for 2 weeks, then onto soft solids for 4 weeks. After that I could introduce something new every week to see how I would tolerate it.

I often eat the same thing daily, especially Breakfast and lunch. Good luck to you! As long as you follow your program, you will not do anything wrong!

  6. Here I am at the 6 month mark. I was one who thought I was going to be a "slow loser" from the beginning. My first week after surgery I barely lost 2 lbs. The week after that wasn't much either. I kept reading about people who would say "WOW, I lost 18lbs my first week!" and at first was a little discouraged but soon talked myself away from that reminding myself that I didn't have as much to lose as those who lost such large amounts in the beginning. This is my journey and mine only. I can't compare myself to how others have done. Well, those 2 or 3lbs here and there have certainly added up. At 6 months I am 70lbs down and about 33lbs from my goal. It's been an amazing journey so far!

  7. I started losing it at 3 months. I'm almost 6 months now and it is definitely slowing down. I ended up cutting my hair shorter so it wouldn't look like it was thinning. My hairdresser says there is a lot of new growth coming in so I may start growing it out again.

I also read an article that stated any prolonged "diet" where you are consuming less than 1200 calories is going to result in Hair loss. Not a lot we can do to prevent it. The funny thing is that I went for my 6 month follow up with my surgeon last week and he said he's never heard of people losing their hair!

  8. Enjoy this time, for me, about a year out I began to enjoy food again....... Unfortunately this too does pass...... I want to go back to that time.... I now have to watch what I eat and limit the fun stuff...... Good luck

That is basically what was said at my monthly meeting last week. We are still in the "honeymoon" phase where food is just nutrition at this point, but we were gently warned that it doesn't last forever!

  9. Hey Molly, it has been a couple more months since this post. How is the hair situation? I'm just over 5 months and some days I think it might be getting better, but not really sure. Partly because I cut most of it off the last time I went to my hairdresser so it's not as noticeable as when I had the long hair. I sure hope it stops soon! I want to grow it out again!!
