great thing about life is that it always goes on and another day happens
i think we (all) get off course or get side tracked or even lapse somewhat back into
what (we) use to do..old habits? not exercising, eating more and eating less of the better for us type foods...yes it happens...
so what do we do..how do we handle this?
do we sit and cry and go woe is me....or say screw it and pig out or blame it on elvis..
what we do it start right now......eating better, small changes to take us back to where we are
back in control......drinking more liquids, moving (even if it is 5 min...as long as we are moving, it counts)
    you are a success
    you have this day
focus on doing the best you can today...we cant go backwards
    but we can go forward...
    hang in there
back to basics......eating clean, drinking and exercising
you need motivation....look at your before picture before surgery..
compared to the goddess you are now/today...
    that should motivate you

If your insurance will pay Chantix really helped me. I have been smoke free for over 10 weeks now. My surgeons requires a pulmonary test and I did not pass it. Now it is a waiting game until I can take it again. I was a smoker for 30 years.

I have been told twice recently that I am so skinny. I love this. My dream come true. Who knew that I would cause such issues even among my slim friends who only want the best for me.
I love what my sleeve did for me!!!!!!!!! And I love that it is still helping me stay this way!!!!! modern medical science.....I tip my hat to you in this area.

First off, 25 pounds in six weeks is not slow! I don't know where some people are getting these unrealistic expectations of how fast they should be dropping weight post-sleeve. I haven't had mine yet (scheduled for Sept. 1), but I've done a TON of research and watched a lot of youtube videos and read a lot of blogs from post-op sleevers and I am hoping to be able to lose about 10 pounds per month post-op. If you've lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks, that means you're already 20 pounds ahead of my 6 week goal!
Secondly, I think 300-500 calories a day is too little 6 weeks out. You should be aiming for 600 I would guess. Have you talked to your nutritionist?

Is it normal to have a stall only 1 1/2 weeks after surgery? I'm having some issues getting enough calories in and not as many carbs. Maybe that's my problem. I'm going to really try to keep my carbs under 50, which someone suggested earlier. It would be nice to know though that I'm not the only one so new to the surgery who is having a stall.....

tuna with yogurt in instead of FF mayo. Interesting. I just put FF mayo on my shopping list. I have tuna and low carb plain yogurt so I might just add the yogut to the tuna fish. Thanks for sharing. I just purchased a few cookbooks. I'm waiting for them to arrive. I'll share some ideas as well. All ideas help.

@@wilsonjul are you tracking everything you eat on myfitnesspal or a similar app/website? Do you have clearly defined targets for calories per day/carbs per day/protein grams per day and you track against those? Do you weigh or measure everything you eat? Those were the things that helped me lose the weight I needed to pre-op.

don't kick yourself anymore - you are probably already black and blue
    "can't wait for July"
i was very anxious for WLS too
but remember - the surgery is here to help/assist you lose the weigh
    nolthing is done magically overnight
you MUST work with the sleeve - and in turn the sleeve will work for/with you
but you look like a smart cookie
i'm sure you are aware that this is a forever new lifestyle that you need/must follow
you have 2 months til surgery
you can prepare for surgery by gradually doing the following
stop drinking soda (diet soda too)
    no more coffee
    don't drink with your meals
wait after you eat to drink again for 45-60 minutes
    drink 64 oz a day
these are hard rules to follow - but work on it now -
so post op - you'll have a leg up on other newbies
head hunger - not sure of the "official" definition, but something like................
you are not really hungry, but your tummy tells your brain you want to eat

wilsonjul reacted to joatsaint in Just beginning - so confused.
I too wondered if I would be the one person WLS would not work for. After years of trying all the "miracle" pills that promised weight loss if I only took this one, it was hard to believe that surgery would work for me.
I can only tell you that my thoughts and feelings about food are completely different now. And it started right after surgery. My biggest problem was cravings for certain flavors. Those cravings would nag at me like a little kid tugging at my sleeve who wanted a toy. The bad part was I couldn't b*tch slap this kid away! :-P It's been 17 months and the cravings have never returned. The surgery was the tool I needed to get my weight under control.
As far as "Center of Excellence", that was a label my insurance company used describe hospitals they would pay for. I think it's a euphemism for "it's a hospital that will take what we're willing to pay."
I was terrified and worried if surgery was the right thing for me - after all they can't put my stomach back in if it didn't work out.
I called my insurance company to get a list of doctors on their approved list in Nov 2012, and then got scared and backed out.
After about 3 weeks I asked myself 2 questions that help me make life decisions:
    1. Do I want to be in this situation a year from now?
2 Am I willing to do whatever it takes to get out of this?
I committed to the surgery in my mind and was willing to go through whatever I had to. I made my 1st doc. appmt. on Dec 7th, went through all the pre-surgery tests in 3 weeks and was Sleeved on Dec. 27th. And I've never regretted a minute of it - even when I was hurting like Hell because I couldn't take the liquid pain meds.
Even if I knew I'd have to go through the pain of that 1st week post-op again, I wouldn't hesitate to have the surgery.

wilsonjul reacted to vdub_tx in What you wished you had known before being sleeved?!?!?
Not to be negative, but I wish I had known how really, truly bad the nausea was going to be the first couple of days post-surgery. It seemed like every report I read here on BP was all "no pain, just gas...I'm great!" so I was unprepared for my own experience which was....difficult. Worse, that made me feel like something was wrong with me, until I found out LOTS of people feel this way. So while I pray that you are a person who recovers quickly and relatively painlessly, if you don't...just know that it is normal as well and that is get sooooo much better.
I also wish I had known to try different temperatures of liquids for the first week or so. I had a hard time getting fluids down and was very close to being hospitalized for dehydration when someone told me to try hot tea. Once I figured out that warm liquids were easier, I started feeling significantly better very quickly. I couldn't tolerate anything cold (or even room temp) at all but some people do...experiment to figure out what your new baby tummy likes.
On the positive side, even though it's the reason we had surgery....I wish I had known how quickly my body shape would change! If you are like me and have multiple sizes in your closet, I would organize your clothes now. I wish I had done so because I'm constantly digging through stuff to figure out what fits. I've dropped about a size and a half so some things fit from one size and one the next and it would be easier if it was all neatly sorted out in my closet!
Good luck on your surgery...you're going to do GREAT!
