  1. Stranger Here is about one woman's weight loss journey. She had DS and not the sleeve, but it was very insightful. It starts when she was over 300 lbs and miserable, and then her decision to have surgery, and then the aftermath. Her style of writing is very down to earth, funny, but can also be serious. I related to her in so many ways. Highly recommend it and its a short read. Finished it in a few days without even trying.
  2. Hi everyone!! I'm Stephanie, 31 years old and mom to 5 yr old Aubreanna and I also have a 19 yr old step daughter. In my mid twenties I started to gain here and there and never lost it. After having my daughter my weight was out of control. My little sister also passed away and I didn't care about anything. My weight ballooned to 250. My doctor was actually the one who suggested surgery. It was always in the back of my mind, but I felt like I could lose it on my own. I started dieting in November 2012 and got a personal trainer. I only lost 15 lbs and I tried so hard without success. That was why I decided to take my dr's advice. Best decision. One month post op and I currently weigh 218. Would not be able to do that on my own. Thanks for reading.
  3. I was sleeved 4/16/12. Excited to be one month out! 31 lbs lost so far! I don't seem to be stalling but I am not hungry at all and may be eating too little. Trying to focus on protein shakes. I feel good, I am happy with my decision. People are starting to notice my weight loss. Down one pant size, almost two. (Hopefully by the end of this week). I'm more physically active and I am seeing results for the first time in my life.

    Length of Hospital Stay

I stayed one day and I was fine. To me, the worst part was the anesthesia wasn't completely out of my system, which made me very nauseous. The pain wasn't so bad, just uncomfortable. Walking helped me recover and helped get rid of the gas bubbles. My timeframe was surgery 9am on 4/16/13, discharged 4/17/13 around 1pm. Could have left sooner, but I had to wait for the nutritionist.

    Low Caloric Intake

I am having the same problem. Sleeved on 4/16/13. I am pretty much just on protein shakes and I always have a water bottle with me so I can sip. If I eat purée food I won't come even close to my protein goal. I can't even finish a whole egg. I try to have two shakes and two- three "meals" doesn't always work out though.

    Juicing and smoothies

I was wondering if anyone that has the sleeve juices or makes smoothies with the ninja or nutri bullet. I am almost a month post op and I juiced prior to lose my required weight for surgery. Do you know how soon I can start juicing and drinking smoothies? I felt so much energy and also the nutrition benefit. It helped me to lose 20 lbs pre op. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    Anyone

I am also 3 weeks post op. I am mostly losing in my breasts and stomach, but I am not down a size yet. I definitely still have a stomach, but its smaller. My pants are looser but I tried a smaller size and could not button them comfortably. I also feel frustrated and want a more immediate result, but in the long run I know it will be better to lose it slowly, so it will take longer to go down sizes. Focus on your goal, not how quickly you will get there.
  10. I lost 20 lbs which was my 10% they want you to lose. I started juicing, which made it really easy to be on a liquid diet two days before. If you emotional eat, don't beat yourself up. Just move on and go back to eating right your next meal. We are not perfect, that's why we need the surgery. I fell off the wagon a few times, but still lost. I also started walking ang going to the gym, which helps too, because if you worked out, you don't want to blow it by eating a cheeseburger. Good luck and keep me posted. If you have any other questions, feel free to message me.
  11. I had mine done at Kaiser Harbor City, although I took my classes at Downey. The classes are very educational. Make sure you don't miss one, it takes almost a month to make up and puts you behind schedule. I was very successful at losing my pre-op weight by following what I learned in class. My surgeon was Dr. Zane, sleeved on 4/16/13, and he was wonderful. Hope this helps.
  12. My surgery date was 4/16/13. Overall I feel very good. I last weighed myself two weeks ago and had lost 7 lbs already. My only concern is the acid reflux. Will this go away? It is better with Prilosec or Pepcid but I was just curious.
  13. Thank you. I'm glad I am not alone and will try nexium.
  14. If you are interested in reading a book, read "Stranger Here" I can't remember the name of the Author, but it is good and she is very funny in her writing.
