Who Dat 70461 got a reaction from bsmerz in Married Couple getting sleeved together?
My surgery was May 8, 2013 and my wife's was July 8th. As mentioned previously, this allowed her to take care of me and me to reciprocate. While my recovery was no problem, my wife had a tougher time...would've been rough if we didn't have some time between the two surgeries.
Now, 9 mos. for me, 7 for her, we are both loving life and doing great! She hit her goal about 4 weeks ago...mine, 3 weeks ago.
Good luck and Godspeed...y'all are in for an awesome journey!

Who Dat 70461 got a reaction from BigTink2LilTink in Ability to drink alcohol post-op, your experiences?
I'm one year, 5 months out and have been drinking (mainly vodka and diet cranberry) since 6 months post op. In fact, I'm finishing a concoction of Vodka, Malibu, Rum Chatta, diet cran-pomegranate, a banana and a handful of ice...blended to perfection (had to find a good use for my Ninja blender after the damn pureed stage! ) as I type! Especially after watching my Saints barely pull it out over Tampa Bay today!
Now, with that being said, I have been working out like a maniac since I was six months out as well, so it's my way of rewarding myself!
While I've heard some folks can tolerate beer (and man, did I ever enjoy an ice cold beer on a hot day! ) , I suspect my lips will never touch carbonated beverages again. Not based on any solid data, just my choice...lovin' this new me too much to take risk screwing it up!

Folks I haven't seen in a while always ask how I did it. If they seem genuinely interested, I tell them...you never know who might be considering surgery as an option and I will share my story in a heartbeat if I think it may help someone.

However, if the person asking is the judgmental type, I simply tell them I've been eating less and moving more...it's the truth!

    Good luck!

Who Dat 70461 got a reaction from amper02 in Super Emotional During Weight Loss?!?
I was sleeved exactly 2 months prior to my wife. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications and no moodier than normal. My wife on the other hand...she had two hernias repaired, had terrible reflux issues and also a problem getting enough Fluid intake. It took about a month for me to sleep with both eyes closed (in her state of mind, she was not to be trusted! ). However she is doing great now and that early period is a distant memory.
While all is good and right in the universe now, she had mood swings that would drive me batshit crazy! (We live in the South, batshit crazy is proper English...and a valid description of her frame of mind at the time! )
You will just have to get through the gettin' through and don't worry, all will be fine. In the meantime, you may want to avoid stupid people, bad drivers and sharp objects.
    Good luck on your journey!

The anxiety/fear is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic!

This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for my wife and I. However, it is all a distant memory now. I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook (driving two days post-op, back to work after a week), hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 4-5 weeks for her to get over the surgery, i.e. quit complainin'!

All joking aside, that period of time is a distant memory. I am down 130 lbs...have fluctuated between 205 and 210 for about 9 months. My wife is down 85 lbs. and although she wants to lose more, she looks incredible!

I can honestly say, this procedure has been a blessing for us. We both feel like we've been given a second chance..and we're making the most of it!

You asked for comments/words of encouragement...pray about it, then make the decision that is best for you and yours.

    Good luck!

I have officially met my original goal of 142 pounds lost as of today, I started at 352 lbs and now weigh in at 210... Had my surgery last Dec 13 (On a Friday)... I know, Crazy.. But this decision saved my life and career, I am now going back to the hospital to start giving talks at new classes after first of next year. I was needing total knee replacements and have already had a spinal fusion so I was pretty desperate, Not to mention surviving a massive pulmonary embolism after the back surgery.. But I was so successful with the sleeve by following the directions verbatim, No arguing or rationlizing why I had to do what they said to do.. Once I got past the mental hurdle about 6 to 8 weeks out and the weight was falling off I became totally dedicated to success, I think also that I had to pay out of pocket 16,000 bucks helped keep me dedicated (Like an Investment).. I have had several people reach out to me for their decision whether to do this or not and I am careful about telling people yes they HAVE to do this... Everybody has to become MENTALLY PREPARED for this journey and for me it worked out great and continues to work out great. Walking 5 miles a day now and bought a great elliptical machine.. Anybody that has doubts and needs more information message me and I will try to help..

If you had cancer that could be cured by surgery would you hesitate for one second? Of course not! There shouldn't be such a stigma attached to WLS and we all need to let the world know!!

    Tasha,
In my humble opinion, you are sick and prematurely dying. Obesity is a disease which causes other issues that do considerably shorten your life span. I have Diabetes Type II, neuropathy, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. All due to obesity, and my BMI is 36. However you choose to fight your obesity, whether it is WLS or some other way, you are working to save your own life.
    Best wishes for good choices.

You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT! ) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are falling off, to hell with what the number is on the scale! LOL).

Please tell your husband a BMI of 57.6 is a sure fire quick path to certain death. He doesn't have to take my word for it. He can ask your doctor.
You are aboard the Titanic (I'm in the same boat by the way) and you are being asked to board one of the life boats floating in the stormy icy waters of the North Atlantic, which will you take? Sorry for being so blunt but a picture sometimes is worth a 1,000 words.

I would recommend against flying to west africa now, unless you have an important reason to do so. Otherwise, no, I don't think it's a bad time to fly. I'm pretty sure the risk of a plane crash (very low) is still higher than the risk of catching ebola on your flight. And your risk of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport is way higher than either of the above.
This outbreak is a huge tragedy and emergency in west africa right now, but it is not anywhere near as threatening for Americans as some news channels are making it out to be.
How many Americans die each day from guns? About 30
How many die in car crashes every day? A little over 3000
How many Americans have contracted Ebola in this country? I've only heard about two. And I'm guessing they'll both survive as well since their symptoms were caught early.
    Here's a good article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/dandiamond/2014/10/16/ebolas-very-contagious-ebolas-also-hard-to-catch-confused-heres-how-to-understand/
