    My FL vacation :)

Awesome/informational post to show others, who are not as far along in their journey, how to have a blast, yet still be responsible (okay, mostly responsible! ). Glad to see your better half was rockin' the purple & gold too! We try to visit Mickey & Minnie every chance we get...life's too short not to act like a kid as much as possible! You've done an awesome job, keep on inspiring others!

    Help. Afraid I've messed up

The accident sucks, however don't allow obstacles to detract you from your objective! Unfortunately, this is simply a hurdle to overcome and there will be plenty of others throughout the rest of your life! You can and will overcome each and every one of them, however you have got to want it! When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you or you can let it strengthen you. Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery...you got this!
  4. So sorry for your loss. We will keep you in our prayers.

    Road Trip - Fun?

We went to Disney World when I was 6 weeks post op and it was fine...snacked on string cheese (think that's what they're called...mozzarella sticks of cheese), yogurt, bananas, etc. May want to bring a small cooler and throw in some ready to drink Protein shakes...they have ice machines at cheap motels too. Good luck and have fun on your trip!
  6. Wow, congratulations on your progress/success! You have a positive, can-do attitude that is infectious...keep on keeping on!

    help

As previously mentioned, you have to track your intake...MFP is a great tool, but only if you're honest! Physical activity is also key...change up your routine and make it fun! Add new activities, biking, swimming, jogging, etc. You know what you need to do, you just have to do it. If you burn more calories than you take in, you will begin to lose again. Good luck!

    Amazing Journey

My wife was wearing 20/22 when she was sleeved July 8, 2013. She bought a pair of size 12 "goal jean shorts" around a month post-op. She is now in an 8 and they are loose! Good luck on your journey...hope to hear you scream all the way in New Orleans!

Question for those that met their goals...

I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. I am down 119 lbs. and hit my original goal around 8-9 months out. My wife is down 80 lbs. and hit her original goal about 11 months out, however she has now decided she wants to lose more...women! Please don't compare your journey with others though, everyone is different and folks lose at different rates, for various reasons. Good luck!
  10. Incredible tool to help you get where you want/need to be...both my wife and I had the gastric sleeve surgery. Mine was May 8, 2013, hers was exactly 2 months later. I hit my goal weight around 6 months ago and she hit hers shortly thereafter (although now she wants to keep going for a new goal!). You will still have to work, i.e. exercise and eat right...but the surgery is one helluva tool to help you get there! Good luck!
  11. Not to sound harsh, but damn it, you have to want it...nobody can do it for you! You know what you have to do, now that you've undergone this major/life-changing surgery...quit whining and just do it! Those first 3-6 months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else...to say it was an emotional friggin' roller coaster is an understatement! You will get through this, however as others have said, talk with your doctor and your nutritionist...that's what they're there for, to help you! Also, as mentioned previously, you have to track your food intake...and be honest! This procedure has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me), however I'd be lying if I said it was easy...it was work. You just gotta get through the gettin' through! If there is a support group in your area, go to it. If there isn't one, start one! Everyone has the right to visit a pity party now and then, the key is knowing when it's time to get up and leave! Good luck and Godspeed for what will be an incredible journey on the road to a healthier and happier you my friend!
  12. Plenty of guys on here...the ladies just talk more! Guys' forum is probably the place to go if you have gender specific questions. However, if you're just curious about WLS in general, fire away!
  13. The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic! This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now! I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! She can tolerate just about everything, albeit in moderation. I can eat almost everything, but for some weird reason, still have a tough time with canned tuna fish!? I can eat steak, chicken, fresh tuna steaks, roast, crawfish, ribs, etc., etc....but canned tuna just doesn't sit well w/me. No worries, I can live without it! I am down 119 lbs. and hit my original goal around 6 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT! ) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are falling off, to hell with what the number is on the scale! LOL). The first few months will be an emotional roller coaster...don't be afraid to use the folks on this site as a sounding board, I think you'll find this is pretty much a judgement-free zone! By the way, you're in for one heck of a journey and there's an incredible new you, waiting on the horizon! Godspeed for a quick recovery!

    What am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately it's true, everyone loses at a different pace, don't worry. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and eat smart...the lbs. will drop. By the way, 23 lbs. ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!

    Not losing weight after surgery...help

Nothing wrong, as previous post said, just gotta give your body time to heal. Don't become addicted to the number on the scale, the weight will come off...just follow your plan. Good luck and hang on, 'cause you're in for one heck of an awesome journey!

    HELP! Snacks!

In addition to what others have said (e.g. nuts, jerky, fruit), I make homemade granola (super easy...plenty of recipes online) with Splenda brown sugar and sugar free syrup, in place of honey...very filling and good for you (yes, it has carbs, however I could care less what others will say...carbs are not bad, they are fuel for your body...just can't overindulge.). Good luck!

    Does life return to normal?

I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! I am down 119 lbs. and hit my original goal around 5 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. and hit her goal about 3 months ago (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). It is perfectly normal to question whether or not this was a good decision, especially during the first few months. Don't worry, give your new tummy time to adjust...it will get better. You're in for one heck of a journey...hang in there, it is definitely an incredible ride!

    Date night!

    From the album: Grumpy

My bride and I enjoying s night out with friends. I'm almost 13 months post-op and she is almost 11 months out. Loving life!
  24. Those non-scale victories are the best! Too many people let the number on the scale define them. It is liberating when you get to the point where quality of life wins outweigh (no pun intended ) the number of lbs. lost or gained in a given week. Congratulations on your success!
  25. I wouldn't worry, although it sucks, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and follow your plan to a tee...the lbs. will drop. I could not agree with Kindle more...don't let the number on the scale define you and dictate your feeling of success! I have religiously worked out since about week 16. I started with light weights and gradually increased. Weight training five days a week and mild cardio (mowing lawn, staying busy outside and swimming...well, lounging in the pool! ). As you add muscle, you will have weeks with negligible weight loss. However, although the scale may not move, the inches will...so please, don't beat yourself up over the number on the scale. I weigh once a week...if I remember. By the way, 41 lbs. since April ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
