You might actually appreciate being lactose intolerant after surgery... Constipation is a problem for a long time but may that lactose will keep you going ;)

I'm a fan of the Jay Robb whey Protein and yes they are pricey. I also just bought Optinum Nutrition 100% Natural in chocolate and it's pretty decent ( I add hazelnut sugar free Syrup and instant expresso powder to make a morning mocha). It's also a little cheaper since its huge container. Both are sold in Vitamin Shoppe.< /p>

    Hi Stephen,
I don't have any specific reading material that my surgeon gave me. I just read this forum and a couple of others (obesityhelp dot com and gastricsleeve dot com) as I was making my decision. There are also some good vloggers out there on Youtube as well as informational videos -- and videos of the actual surgery itself if you are into that kind of thing
I'm glad I realized that surgery is NOT a cop-out from diet and exercise. Studies show that only about 5 percent of obese people can lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off. I would love to be in that five percent, but the fact is I'm not. Taking advantage of modern medicine is not a cop out from diet and exercise, just like having anesthetic at the dentist when you get a filling is not a cop out from taking a shot of whiskey and having someone hold you down like they did in olden times. Besides, sticking to a proper diet and getting exercise after surgery will be a big part of your life, trust me (especially the diet)!
If you have insurance, definitely check your member benefit handbook to see if it is covered.
If you don't have insurance, you may want to check to see whether Obamacare insurance includes bariatric surgery coverage in your state. Some states include it, but I think most do not.
Self-pay is another option. Prices range from about $4600 (and up) in Mexico to maybe $25,000 for a top surgeon in a big city here in the US. I considered self-pay in Mexico for a while when my insurance was being a jerk and personally I think it's a good option. There is an excellent sub-forum here for self-pay and Mexico patients that you should check out if you decide on this route.
And a final note of caution for you and anyone else new to reading these boards - keep in mind that this surgery has about the same rate of complications and death as gall bladder surgery, which means: not very high at all! But people tend to post on these forums when they feel like something is going wrong, not when everything is going perfectly. So just reading online forums can give you a warped sense of what surgery and post-surgery is going to be like. If relied solely on these posts, you'd think that your post surgery days would necessarily be filled with pain, vomiting, trips to the ER for dehydration, leaks, strictures, Constipation, and worse. While some people do have these issues, the quiet majority of us do great without complications.
    Good luck to you!

Slave to Senor Sleeve got a reaction from Tamiz1067 in Glue: How Long Does It Stay On?
Glue lasts anywhere from 5-15 days. The glue is for the outside skin, you have internal dissolvable sutures on you incisions. They take 2weeks to dissolve but the outside abdominal skin will knit together in about week.
So don't pull of the glue, don't use lotions or cream on them either. If it starts to loosen, leave alone, it will fall by itself. You might even see clear suture sticking out, which is normal, don't pull it.
    Hope that helps!

Protein is very important and I eat it first but veggies come right after.... I do not eat much fruit but I do eat 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries (20 calories) in my Greek yogurt daily (yummy favorite meal)
    Plus veggies = roughage= poop=

I ate chocolate and potato chips anf OJ while on vacation one month postop . I had to be sneaky about it since all my travel mates knew I had surgery.
Funny thing is, I haven't wanted to that again (and haven't touched a chip since).

That video on YouTube is about gastric bypass patients who do not have a pyloric valve. They have a small stoma. With VSG our pyloric valve is still intact.

I had so much to do today, tons of client deliverables, most of them time-sensitive, lots of phone calls...so what did I do? I started a blog. Will you check it out and tell me what you think?
    http://sleevers.wordpress.com/
If I can geek out for a minute, wordpress ROCKS. I literally did that from 8 am until now, while in between deliverables and during boring conference calls. Much of the content was stuff I had posted here, but it has a nice, handy dandy recipes tab for the few recipes I've posted here since people ask me frequently how they can see my recipes while on their phones. Well, here we go.
I have a feeling this is all because I'm trying desparately not to weigh today ---oh hey! and succeeding so far!

There was a thread here a while ago saying "okay who lost all their weights eating NO CARBOHYDRATES" or something. It made for interesting reading. Just as we all got fat in different ways,we all seem to lose it in diff ways.
My encapsulation from spending (too much) time reading posts on this forum?
1.,there are the who are carb sensitive and will not lose if they eat over 60-80 of carbs while other are not carb sensitive and lose with 100+ gms of carbs
    2. There are those that are triggered by eating carbs and then crave more carbs, and others who are not
    3. There are moderators who can have a little bite or three of treats with no ill effects, and there are abstainers who can't have a little without craving a lot.
    4. There are those who lost weight with no exercise, some fast, some slow, but there are others who, if they don't exercise, simply cannot lose it.
Perhaps the important thing is for each of us to find where we lie on each of these spectrums. (spectra?) Pity we are not yet in an age where they could "read" our chemistries and give us a personalized prescription. We were born too early
