I told the world also and anyone who asks. As I've lost more and more weight I have gotten more and more comments so I don't tell everyone right away. If they probe me and want to more about my journey, then I let them in on my secret...which is no secret.
I guess I feel as if having surgery is just part of who I am and part of my life. I am not ashamed of having surgery or I wouldn't have gotten it done in the first place. I think those feelings of negativity or even trying to hide something so big in my life is such a burden. I don't need anything else weighing me down...I've got myself to do that!
Telling everyone was part of letting go for me. It was freeing I guess. I didn't have this secret to hide. I didn't have to wonder if people were going to find out or figure it out. It was relief for me and freedom to walk my journey the way I wanted to walk it.
As for those people with negative or judgemental comments, I try to educate them. If they don't listen, then I don't listen. We have a choice as to whom we let into our heart. I don't have the room or the energy for people who try to bring me down.

I found using a ridiculously tiny pickle fork at meal times helped slow me down a bit.

Relieved to hear others having trouble with eating slowly. I am 8 weeks out and consistently find myself in pain after eating. I think that eating too quickly makes it difficult to sense when I am full, so I end up eating beyond that point. I have got to SLOW down!

It is a constant battle that you will face from time to time throughout your journey, I'm 22 months post-op and still can catch myself eating too fast. What I try to do is go back to what I learned which is take a bite of food and then put the utensil down and chew, chew, chew it works if you are consciously eating and not eating looking at tv. LOL just a thought! I'm not perfect at it either so you're not alone - I also eat and do at 1 or 2 crossword so I don't just continue to put food in my mouth I concentrate on something else while I chew.
Foods that still make me gurgle are salsa (anything tomato based) beef and chicken - pork not so much which is odd and crabmeat I can eat like no ones business.

I now shop in the regular womens dept. I never realized all the choices you have when you are XL and smaller. Been in the plus size dept for 44 years. So this is so new and fun.

My NUT (love calling her that) said that my weight loss would look like stair steps on a chart. From what you have described this is happening to you as well. I eat between 600-800 calories a day and exercise about four times a week (elliptical, mowing grass, cleaning house, walking etc). You may need to experiment by eating a few more calories to give you extra energy to be able to workout more. I found that changing (not necessarily making it harder, just changing) my exercise routine helped when I felt stuck. Our bodies are very adapt at wanting to store energy and by changing your exercise routine you can jump start your weight loss. Drinking more water will help, as well. Good luck!

My BMI was just over 40 when I was approved for the surgery. The only ones to question my sanity over the surgery were my sister and a co worker..
Dont listen to that little voice of doubt. You have worked hard to get to this point and deep down you know why you are doing this. I am one month out and do not regret my decision to be sleeved.
