Mean. You have obviously been taking care of yourself! I am outraged! After all the wonderful advice you give us all here on this page! Maybe you should counsel her about her own insecurities and the fact that taking care of oneself entails not scaling rooftops in the middle of winter!

That took my breath away! A friend? Think what bothered me most was her saying that you aren't taking care of yourself. After what you've been through, if you had been careless with your health, you wouldn't be here!!!!
You know the drill for future - smile sweetly and thank her for her "concern" and remind her you are under medical supervision who know what they are doing and who will tell you if you go too far!
Then I'd ask her how she's doing since she's looking a bit tired and peaky since you last saw her....

If you are not telling your family members about your surgery, they will certainly think something is amiss when you are only eating 2 oz of food. Why don't you suggest that for your 30th birthday, you want it to be about you and make a spa day out of it. Either with massages, or facials. Something that healthy and not focused on food. Let them know you are dieting and that you prefer the focus be on making you feel fabulous. Good luck and hope it all turns out well.

Teachamy got a reaction from A_ReNUDE_me in When did you go back to work?
It was 19 days from my date of surgery to the time I returned to work. I am a teacher and I timed it so I would only miss 4 days of the school, and then we had 2 weeks of vacation. I needed all the time I got and still find i get pretty tired around 12:00 every day. I spent most of those 19 days napping and doing my walks around the house. It was biting cold here at the time, so I rarely changed out of my fuzzy jammies or left the house!

Congrats! You are on your way! I am headed out this morning for my Psych eval and then my doc will submit all my stuff for approval for surgery from insurance. It's been a ride to get to this point so I'm very excited for next chapter as well! I'll follow your journey, good luck!

Finally, I can see the end of this journey and the beginning of another. I get sleeved on 1-15-14. Dr. Heibling, Bismarck ND. Any tips on day before and day of would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else had a long ride once released from hospital. I will have around a 5 hour ride.
I'll post pics day before surgery. I'm keeping a personal journal. So hopefully I can keep you guys updated, along with that.
Anyone else getting sleeved that day?

I have read various times on this forum that hormonal changes can affect mood and cause depression. Although I am not depressed, I have noticed a change in my emotions that I don't necessarily attribute to hormones. It's more like my senses are heightened. My sense of smell in particular is much stronger than it used to be, as is my empathy for everyone and everything, even fiction! For example, I tried to watch "The Joy Luck Club" last night, a movie I used to enjoy while I stuffed my face and stifled my emotions. Movies make me cry too readily these days--I am no longer using food as therapy, and I think that's why. Heck, even commercials make me teary these days.
Has anyone else experienced these changes after surgery?

The first fews days of dry heaving, not being able to drink a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g., feeling groggy, weak, sick, tired, yeast infection (yikes).
Now I need to add that I'm 16 days post op and I feel really good. So really the misery was short lived, I'm losing weight and feeling great. No point in dwelling on the bad stuff when there's a pot of gold on the way to the end of the rainbow. ya know?

Yes it happened to me..I was fixated on stories I read or saw on TV and the worst was when it was a sad thing...All the time I would think about that poor creature or person and cry...could not stop it for over a month......Now I never think about those things..But I really thought I was losing my mind......Every thing is different and changing and you are changing as well...It takes some time to come to grips with all of this...Our body protects us from so many things...I think that our brains do this to keep us from worrying about the possible things we will have to face with this surgery and then as time goes on it goes away and we deal better....

I see it as a verb still because I have a snack at night..If i don't I wake up in the middle of the night hungry and have to go eat something then...I eat mostly nuts and seeds in the evening....you know like a squirrel...lol

I used to finish dinner and snack until bedtime. Now I like to see "snack" as a noun, not a verb! It is freeing to be able to break the old starch habit. I feel physically better and that makes a difference in how I work, parent, and live life! So glad I was sleeved!

Is this smell new? Could it be a fungus or mold type smell because of wetness under the excessive skin? Might be something to discuss with your doctor. I am so sorry you are going through this! Hope you figure out the problem.

Laughing at this because this week I realized I have to rethink how to use the microwave. I'm so used to reheating a large bowl of (whatever) that I almost destroyed the 1/3 of a meatball I was trying to have for lunch!

I remember a while ago coming on this forum and announcing to everyone that I had my first salad for supper with shrimp in it and that was my dinner...It seemed so unreal to me to do that since I was raised on a farm where food was a big part of life....
We had 2 different kinds of meat, several veggies, potatoes and a couple of Desserts...Fresh bread and lots to extras........
So i raised my kids the same way...Always had the 5 food groups in mind when I made a meal and almost always succeeded at it....
Now..fast forward 5 months since i mentioned my shrimp salad and now it is a habit almost...tonight I am having chicken and salad..And it seems normal to me.......I am looking forward to it and no longer see it as a big deal..It is just what I eat........
I hardly bake now and most of it goes in the freezer or hits the garbage can.........Boy I have changed so much since i was sleeved!!!!! This part...for the good I think!!!

old joke> If you dream about a giant marshmallow don't eat it...it's your pillow!
I had an opposite dream last night. I looked down in my dream and it was an absolute straight shot to my feet....no belly, no loose skin, what I used to look at when I was a skinny kid.
Without big bucks for plastics...dreams do remain just dreams at times.

    1. I was on drugs through my IV. I felt nothing in terms of pain. The nausea was what affected me. Everyone is different, but I couldn't even sip Water without dry-heaving. It was tough for a couple days, but it's all good now!
    2. No undies.
    3. I had a toilet in my room. (Sorta like a jail cell. ) I could go on my own, just had to drag my little friend, the IV pole along with me. No problems.
    4. I kinda rolled onto my side and used my arms.
    Good luck!

Teachamy reacted to Bufflehead in How often do you weigh?
For the first six months after my surgery I weighed every other Friday, plus days when I had a dr appointment and on my "surgiversary" date (the 19th). By limiting the number of times I weighed, I never experienced a stall or plateau or anything like that. Every time I stepped on the scale, I had gone down. So I wasn't ever stressed out about how much I was losing, or not losing.
At the six month mark, I switched up my routine. Weight loss gets harder and I knew I needed to monitor more carefully to catch any problems right away. So now what I do is I weigh every day and note the weight in my phone, but don't consider it an "official" weight. Each Saturday morning I calculate my average weight over the last seven days and enter that into MFP as my "official" weight. Doing an average is, I think, a lot more accurate than recording or caring about small daily fluctuations that could be caused by almost anything. Or nothing. And it is working for me, my weight continues to go down regularly when I look at my weight loss chart on MFP. In fact, everyone said weight loss slows down dramatically after six months but so far I'm on track to lose more in month seven than I did in any month since my first month after surgery! Hopefully it continues.

It amazes me how different plans are. On my plan Soup is ok, chili is ok. No drinking during meals, but a sip is not gonna kill you if you have to due to dry food or spice. I have only had to take a sip while eating a few times, and don't do it unless my mouth is on fire lol. I have not had a single complication and have lost 110 pounds in almost 10 months.
