nursepez got a reaction from moonglitter in Is there anyone here who is over 60 who has to lose more than 100 lbs.?
I turned 60 in January...sleeved in February. I decided I didn't want to grow any older being obese. I needed to lose about 110-120 pounds. I'm down 60 lbs pre and post op but have a long way too go and hit my first real stall. Can't seem to get the scale to move.
Also, have had some increased stressors in the last month and I've made a few poor choices...eating some bad carbs. I start my days great..but by late afternoon, I want to start grazing...an old bad habit. I need to focus...FOCUS!!! Lol

I started listening to guided meditations at night to help me relax and boy did they ever work. They worked so well I was out cold within 2 minutes. I still listen to one almost every night.
But at one point a few months ago I had issues with my trail running and had several bad trips and falls. I didn't get hurt but it unnerved me enough I quit running the trails for a while. But I couldn't live without that activity so I did some research into making my own guided meditation recording. Turns out it's not terribly difficult. After several rough drafts I finally made one that I really liked and I recorded it on my phone. I listen to it before every trail run and my anxiety about tripping has all but completely gone away.
Now I need to make another one about me winning the lottery.

Back on January 9th, a group of Pekin , Illinois bikers were riding west on I-74
when they saw a girl about to jump off the Murray Baker Bridge .
    So they stopped.
George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks
through a group of gawkers, past the State Trooper who was
trying to talk her down off the railing, and says,
"Hey Baby.....whatcha doin' up there on that railin'?"
She says tearfully, "I'm going to commit suicide!!"
While he didn't want to appear "sensitive," George also didn't want
to miss this "be-a-legend" opportunity either so he asked …
"Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe...why don't you give ole George here your best last kiss?"
So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing
and did just that … and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss
followed immediately by another even better one.
After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval
from his biker-buddies, the onlookers and even the
    State Trooper and then says,
"Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had, Honey!
That's a real talent you're wasting, Sugar Shorts. You could be
famous if you rode with me. Why the hell are you committing suicide?"
"My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl."
It's still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed.

Met my husband on okcupid. Had A LOT of first dates before meeting him. I felt much better after I learned to go into it with the mindset of meeting someone new and enjoying an evening out, expecting that it would be a first and last date, then pleasantly surprised if there was a followup. Many people are uncomfortable saying, nice to meet you but it didn't work for me. Much easier to cut off communication after the date, which can be depressing. Going into it solely to enjoy that one experience a nd nothing more, is much easier to deal with!

Great topic and discussion by folks with a STRONG opinion on both sides. I drinks me Water, and I pee clear.
The rule I break is -- I still drink coffee, well 1/2 and 1/2 with Decaf, black.
Reminds me of an old saying...
"I like my women the way I like my coffee: cold and bitter".
    Bwa ha ha...

WLS is probably not a good thing to have if a person doesn't like rules. Most of us were given rules of some sort - as doctors vary many of us differ in what we're expected to do. If you don't want to drink the water/fluids you were told to, that's your business. What concerns me is a noob reading what you've said and thinking "if she can disregard the rules, so can I". THAT bothers me.

The differences have everything to do with how we are built. I'm heavier in my hips and butt. I wear medium tops...but 14 pants. Somebody else that weighs 10-20 pounds more than me is wearing size 10 jeans. Go figure. Mother Nature did not deal us all the same hand.
    Thank goodness for that...huh?

nursepez got a reaction from sastexan4u@yahoo.com in Who lost weight NO Carbs and who lost weight with out cutting out a ton of carbs?
My post-op instructions said no bread, rice or Pasta for the first 6 months after surgery...and since those were staples in my pre-op life...yes, you could say I'm going low carb. But I don't avoid carbs altogether. I have greek yogurt with FRUIT...I tend to eat my tuna or chicken salad with a few CRACKERS...I had a few sips of ORANGE juice, etc.
I think I'm managing to keep my carbs to under 50-60g/day...sometimes substantially less...sometimes more. My problem with carbs is they trigger my desire and cravings for more carb-laden foods. It's better for me to limit them as much as possible.
    And...yes...I'm losing weight.

Dense Proteins do it for me...chicken breast and turkey. I will often buy a ready to eat roasted chicken breast from the store...and it will do for 2, maybe 3 meals. I start with protein...and find it easily fills me up and lasts for a long time.

Interesting turn this thread has taken. And while I don't believe that homophobia is solely a Christian vice, I do believe that politicians have linked the 2 issues together by trying to legislate their homophobia onto the rest of society in the name of their religion and "family values." Oh f**k how I hate that term, particularly because of the way it's been twisted to be so synonymous with suppression of those not like the mainstream.
But I too like to make statements. There was a time before my surgery when Chik FIL A got a large percentage of my paycheck every week....me totally unaware of how they were investing their profits. When I found out I had to quit them even though theirs was about the only fast food I wanted on a daily basis. They seem to have recovered financially from the loss of my business, but still I'm not going back.

At least there is a much more civil understanding on this thread then the holy flame war that occurred on another thread started by a believer a couple weeks ago. BTB, I am sure you remember that one. Fondly. thanks for keeping this one civil and allow the opinions of both believers and non believers to intertwine without resorting to name calling and threats.

I also appreciate getting this sub-forum dusted off. Although I was raised in the Christian faith, as an adult I don't connect with any organized religion. I wish more of today's politicians believed as passionately in the separation of church and state as our founding fathers did. As stacechase said above, live & let live, just don't push your beliefs on others. For me, success in this journey is more about having faith in myself and my own ability to make the necessary changes than faith in some god or outside being.

Why go through everything you have gone through at this point just for the one thing that put you in the situation to start with? I am 6 days post op and would love to have a salad, but I know my stomach has gone through a MAJOR surgery and cannot handle it! Listen to your doctor, you went to him to help you and if your going to just do what you want anyway, why even bother... You are setting yourself for failure....
