I just posted this below on another post discussing VSG revisions and thought it was appropriate here as well. I am a VSG to RnY revision but not because my VSG failed me, because of GERD. I didn’t hit my weight goal but I lost 47% of my excessive weight and maintained until my revision. I do know I learned a lot between surgery 1 & 2 and my biggest take away is my surgery didn’t fail me but I definitely failed my surgery. Your tool, or whatever you call it, doesn’t decide what you eat or when you eat. It doesn’t choose to drink while eating or to graze. You get out of it what you put into it. I know people that have the VSG and have been wildly successful, I know people with the VSG who have lost and gained. I know people with the RnY who have been wildly successful and I know people with RnY who have lost and gained.

I’ve seen the mixed opinions as well, and it honestly made me nervous, while waiting for my revision. I was revised VSG to RnY 6/4 and my one month was 29# including pre op diet, 15.2# since day of surgery. My VSG pre op and first month was 29.9# and I weighed 60+ lbs more with my VSG. I’m feeling good about it.

When I had my sleeve in 2013 my dad was reluctantly supportive. He wouldn’t tell me not to but he was pretty concerned. Once he saw how well I did after he was very supportive. He then supported my mom through her RnY and me when I had my revision. I think fear often drives our support people.

I bought a Purple bed with an adjustable base last fall. Best investment ever! Stupid base was a lot but it’s great. It did come in exceptionally helpful in the post op recovery.

Hi June friends. I was revised VSG to RnY (related to GERD) on 6/4. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to poor intake and output. I’ve been home just over a day now and I’m doing well. Focusing on Water, I am not tolerating Protein Shakes, I did find a couple things that I am tolerating today so finally had some intake. Pain has been minimal, I am
Just exhausted. Excited for this next journey. I had about a 75# loss with VSG, and kept it off over 5 years, but was still 50# from original goal.

Macy6 got a reaction from MeGustaGuacamole in lump sensation in my throat
I was having exactly the same problem. I thought it was related to thrush (that appeared about 10 days post op) but the thrush cleared up and the lump stayed. I decided to try an allergy pill and took a Zyrtec. The lump was gone by morning. I have taken it daily since and had nothing. I think I was having post nasal drip, after surgery I had a week of crazy runny noses and sneezing. Not sure if you take anything but it never hurts to give it a try. You can get generic for $.89 at Walmart. And just FYI I described my lump as having a cotton ball in my throat, I wanted to cough up something that wasn't there.

Macy6 got a reaction from blessed7 in kicked off of a fair ride....
A few years (and forty pounds ago) we went to an amusement park in Texas. My friend convinced me to go on a ride that I would never normally go on (I love roller coasters and didn't walk in expecting to have any issues but this particular ride was not my cup of tea) It was two long rows, maybe 15 people a row and they came up and made me move all the way to the other end of the row (because the seats were a little bit bigger) I was mortified but sucked it up because I was more mortified to get off the ride. I refused to go on any other rides, until later in the day my friend made me try the seats they have outside the ride. I found that I did fit in the extended sized seats and did go on more during the day. It has stuck with me and I have not tried to get on a ride since. I graduate from college in December and walk in my commencement next May. My graduation is 4 hours away and I want to take my family and friends who come up to an amusement park while we are there. With an anticipated surgery date being mid summer, I will have a good 9-10 months of loss before graduation! I am thrilled to see the changes!

I'm only 2 weeks post op but my mom said "oh my gosh look at your face it has already gotten so thin, way to go" oh and first day back to school and one of my classmates said "your scrubs are already getting baggy on you" it was just nice that someone noticed even the little things.

Macy6 got a reaction from Aclinks1 in Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
I finished up my Pediatric rotation a couple weeks ago, during my post clinical with my preceptor she asked if she could get personal with me for a minute. She proceeded to say "I have struggled with my weight my whole life...... now you know where this is going...." I was mortified, I couldn't believe she was having the "weight" talk with me. She went on to tell me that no matter how great of a nurse I am that I will always be judged by my weight, and how people will question hiring me because I may not be able to do my job and its already hard on nurses and I need to start loosing weight.... now" Needless to say I was mortified, embarrassed, sad..... so sad..... I don't want to be this way, I have struggled so long I don't know how to be any other way. I told her I am in the process of working towards weight loss surgery, but I still have another clinical rotation before surgery, and now I doubt myself, I am smart I know I am smart, I know I do a good job, but now I feel like they will doubt my abilities based on my weight. I am mad at myself for not being smart years ago, I am mad at myself for not doing something 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years ago..... I want people to look at me for the person I am, not the fat I carry. I had my final Psych visit yesterday and told him about the "talk" he said "you know I have always felt unsolicited advice is no different than criticism" in a way yes, but is she right.... yes, yes she is. Should I be looked over for a job, or in a clinical setting because of my weight? No, but will I be.... probably. Will people question if I can do an effective job, yes I suppose they might. I guess I just needed to vent for a minute.....

Macy6 got a reaction from ChavaBling in Skin skin skin...
I have not had the surgery, but I have a friend who has lost 120# and she said that for the most part her skin is fine, that her arms are a little flabby and she stays away from tank tops for that reason, and her stomach, but she said nothing that isn't tolerable.
You know I personally have no plans of flashing my stomach, regardless of my size, I have never been a tummy show-er. I am a big tank top person, but I don't have "bad" arms right now at my size, so I am hoping that as I loose they won't be too bad. Only time will tell!

My friend is down just over 70#. We both have the Ardyss Body Magic shapers, which sound similar to yours, open boob area.... Anyway hers is long, below knee length, mine is shorts, hers has a moveable crotch area, mine has 27,000 eyelets..... Because yes when I am dying and my bladder is going to explode after 2oz of Water and my suit is squeezing my bladder the last thing I want to do is fight eyelets. Stupid. Anyway hers was getting quite loose so she bought a size down. It is hilarious. I had to help her button up, friends.... I don't know that I signed up for that. No matter the squeezing, pushing and smoothing it shoves her belly fat up and creates a spare tire, 3rd boob shelf bigger than her boobs. It is ridiculous. She has this tiny, smooth waist and 2 sets of boobs. Why do we torture ourselves?

Wow.... I mean WOW! Number 1.... a friend would never.... ever....ever.... say something so hurtful, I hope you deleted and blocked that person from your FB, lose her phone number and run if you ever see her in public. GOOD for you for calling her out, when I "came out" on Facebook about my surgery I stated "I don't want the negative talk, if you don't agree keep it to yourself, I am an adult and I made this decision after much soul searching" thankfully if someone doesn't agree with me.... They haven't shared. I am so incredibly sorry that you are going through this, it really is uncalled for, no one has a right to cause you pain. You have done this for you... and no one else, if there is jealousy, a difference of opinion, concern, or an outright personality disorder she didn't have the right to become that person. Chin up.... You got this!

It depends on where the medications are broken down and absorbed at. I can take both of my antidepressants and one is an extended release, without crushing etc... and they absorb the way they are supposed to. I am not familiar with the way those medications are broken down and absorbed, but my PA at my Bariatric Clinic is brilliant and had all the answers for me. Definitely a question for your surgeon, or their office! Good Luck!
