  1. I bought a Purple bed with an adjustable base last fall. Best investment ever! Stupid base was a lot but it’s great. It did come in exceptionally helpful in the post op recovery.

    Consumption

I’m going to add on for clarification. I drink as much as I want for liquids but for actual food (I’m on purées) I only do 2oz, every 2-3 hours.

    Consumption

Although liquids will move through one thing to consider is. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I was done on 6/4, I measure everything out to 2oz, no matter what, some things I only tolerate 1-1.5 oz of but no matter what I never eat more than 1/4c or 2oz.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

Hi June friends. I was revised VSG to RnY (related to GERD) on 6/4. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to poor intake and output. I’ve been home just over a day now and I’m doing well. Focusing on water, I am not tolerating protein shakes, I did find a couple things that I am tolerating today so finally had some intake. Pain has been minimal, I am Just exhausted. Excited for this next journey. I had about a 75# loss with VSG, and kept it off over 5 years, but was still 50# from original goal.

    Low heart rate

I had this and low BP too. I am now post op day 3 and everything is starting to go back to normal. I was kind of freaked out in the hospital when I was sitting so low.

    Revision to RNY

I was revised to RnY on Tuesday (from VSG) my team said their revision patients have all been successful in loss. They did remind me I’m 80# less than when I started last time and went from a BMI of 52-39, so I will lose but the amounts will be less but percentage wise they should even out.
  7. I did my Senior Practicum in a busy NICU and was off 5 weeks before I started and had no issues jumping in, even being new and having been out of clinicals for a few months. I would have been fine sooner. My doctor required 4 weeks.
  8. Haven't been on here in awhile! I have had the craziest, most stressful and rewarding three months of my life. With this came a huge stall.... No gain, but no loss. Frustrating but I have no one to blame but myself. I finished up my Capstone in December, and had my pinning early December. Around that same time my grandmother, I was her full time caregiver, was admitted into Hospice. While waiting for my Authorization to Test from my state boards and studying for my boards I was watching my grandmother slowly dwindle away into a person I didn't know. I finally scheduled my boards for 2/13, the week before my test my grandma had the worst week ever, I found myself crying on the floor next to her bed one night begging her to stay in bed and go to sleep, the last week of her life was constant, constant yelling for help, constantly awake except for short naps, I was exhausted, I was snappy, I was not remotely trying to do what I needed to be doing. On 2/8 a Hospice nurse came out after she had been awake for 20 hours and yelled the whole time, while being given Morphine and Haldol and nothing would help her calm down, they decided to admit her for medication stabilization, we anticipated her coming home after a few days. At 6am on 2/9 a hospice nurse called us (8 hours after her admission) and told us we needed to come say our goodbyes. I lost my grandmother at 2/9 at 1400, my dad was at her side, we all had the opportunity to say our goodbyes. Her loss has left a complete void in my life, I rescheduled my test for 2/22 and after taking the week of my grandmothers death off from studying, I hit the books hard. The Thursday before my test I had an interview for a local Hospital in their medical unit, it was a great interview, they just wanted me to let them know if I passed my test. I took my test last Saturday and walked out over the moon, I knew I had passed, I had no doubt in my mind. I received my notification of passing on Monday, notified my interviewer Monday evening and was offered a position yesterday. Talk about a crazy whirlwind week! I am ready to be back on track, I start my position in 2 weeks and I want to be comfortable in scrubs! I dusted off my, My Fitness Pal app, and pulled out my blender, started the day with a fruity Protein drink.

    The dreaded question...

Do you know what I find annoying? When your best friend asks and you answer and she says "that's all" I was shocked and a little hurt than found myself making excuses. "It's normal, I'm the average, I lost a lot at first now I avg 10# a month" why am I making excuses? I haven't lost 10# a month in over 5 years. 3 months ago if I cleaned my sons dance studio it nearly killed me, I could hardly talk, I was red and sweaty. Now I clean like its nothing. I can run up FLIGHTS of stairs and talk at the top. I went on an 8 mile bike ride today two days ago 5 miles the day before that 6 miles. So yeah since I had surgery Aug 27th I have "only" lost 32.5 # but I have gained so much more! And really from my pre op diet I am 42.5 and overall nearly 55#. Some people need to slow their roll. I think so many people are set on bypass losses that the sleeve losses seem so much less.
  10. I had the same issue. In fact until I started regularly using that area I had it every time I aggravated it. I am 10 weeks out and up until 2 weeks ago I was still having occasional pain. Now that I regularly use that area I am essentially back to normal.
  11. I never did anything beyond antibacterial soap until.... I had the dermabond and 2 healed in days, the big one and other 2 small ones were slower. The 2 small ones got pretty pink and were a little sore and the glue/scab lifted up partially on my big one creating a breeding ground. I kept them clean with dial soap and used triple antibiotic ointment and it all healed right up. I still have no idea why the two on the right healed in days while the left lingered around for awhile. If the scab hadn't lifted I wouldn't have used anything other than antibacterial soap but it got kinda gross when that happened.
  12. I was told to wait 2 weeks so that's what I did. The concern was vitamins on essentially an empty stomach.
  13. They took my blood, that was it. I know that they could do chest xray and EKG if deemed necessary. It wasn't. I had already had an EKG.
  14. Wow! No I mean WOW! Good for you! You look amazing.
  15. I picked the weight from when I first saw the surgeon, which happens to be my highest weight. Weight lost is weight lost IMO
  16. August surgery, no issues. Everyone is different but I was at pre op drinking rates by 2 weeks post op
  17. I agree with if he is not as successful with the band he may have the same struggle with the sleeve. There is a woman in my WLS group who had band and has lost 125+ over 2 yrs and looks great but she follows her rules and obviously hasn't had any complications.

    Energy to exercise post surgery?

How far out are you? I didn't even attempt to exercise for 4 weeks post op. I have had no issues with endurance since that point. At first it was hard, but I have built up over time. I did a five mile bike ride today and six miles yesterday and meet with a trainer tomorrow. It will get easier.

    this may start a riot.

I love this! It is so true!
  20. Everyone is different but for the most part no, you will not always sip. I started taking in around 2oz every 15min within a week to 10 days (mind you it seems maybe my swelling went down faster than average, because there were a lot of things I could do earlier than most) within 2-3 weeks I was taking 8-16oz an hour as needed. I am better with straws, and if your surgeon is against straws I am not encouraging you to go against their wishes but it did work better for me. The first time you take a drink that is too big YOU WILL regret it. It hurts and if you are anything like me you have the second swallow down before the pain hits and there is no going back. I have no fluid restriction, I can take a swallow that is too big but they are few and far between. I am 7 maybe 8 weeks post op.
  21. You are about where I was/am. I can handle around 3oz of chicken in a sitting, however it usually keeps me full for awhile. I know you said you didn't go all the way up to 3oz but if you can handle it do it or add on a 1/4C of steamed veggies.

    4 weeks leak ?

I have seen threads where people were months out, as far as 6 months. I am sure it's not the norm, but it could happen.
