moonlitestarbrite got a reaction from breavsg in 5 weeks Post op and suffering terrible panic/anxiety attacks daily
you should go see your doctor. a friend was having these anxiety symptoms and turns out she has hyperthyroid. hashimoto's disease is suspected. if its not, you should still see your doctor for meds and a referral to a therapist, no one needs to suffer with anxiety. most of us medicated with food, now that you dont have this option, you need to find new ways to cope.

i was told no nuts or nut butter for 3 months. but my food plan is not specific to the sleeve. it was developed for bypass patients. so, it tends to be on the conservative side. *shrug*

yeah, put your foot down. no junk food in the house, no cooking dinner.
i am sorry you guys didnt figure this out before surgery, but please ask him to come with you to your next appt. either the doc or the nut. if you dont have an appt coming up soon, make one. insist he come with you. discuss these issues at the appt.
I asked every single person i talked with in my doctor's office what the number one reason was for long term failure was and everyone of them said "lack of family support."

you aren't getting enough Protein or Water or calories. all of these things contribute to very low metabolism. meaning your body burns very few calories. which means you are in a prolonged stall.
3 things will keep your metabolism fired up: exercise, (daily) Protein 60-80 grams (you need to be tracking every gram of protein you put in your mouth), Water, 64 ounces. (also tracking)
you need to know how many calories you are getting by tracking your input. best if you get a device that will track out put too. a fit bit or body bug will do this for you.
none of this will change if you get the bypass. requirements for bypass are the same. daily exercise, protein and water. it's not a mystery why you are not losing. you are not being compliant with your post op diet and exercise. there is a REASON we are ALL told to get in exercise, protein and water.
to lower your fasting blood sugar, exercise. every single day. and i am on thyroid medication too. it has not prevented me from losing weight. my blood levels are fine.

do you exercise? how much Protein, added sugars and carbs are you eating each day? how much Water? what kind of diabetes do you have? type one or two. there is someone in my support group with type two and she has lost 70+ pounds since july with the sleeve. so i dont think its the diabetes. what are your daily BGLs like?

what i said was, if you dont get enough of the right kinds of FAT you are creating the conditions of malnutrition in your body and this is what causes hair to fall out. you can ge an abundance of lean or fat free Protein and still be starving.
i am only concerned the liquid phase of post op diet. mostly i am just nervous cause i am nervous and need something to focus on. if you are wanting Gelatin in your diet (speeds healing and allows the body to better use protein) make bone broth. look up recipes online. incredibly nurishing and yummy too. Jello..... the nutritional aspects.... not much. i did make Jello for my daughter when she had the stomach flu with unflavored knox and raspberry-hibiscus tea. it wasn't nearly as sweet as jello, but she enjoyed it. the stash's raspberry hibiscus tea is so sweet it doesnt need sugar or honey. i am planning on making popsicles with unsweetened herbal green tea. i wont have to share them with my kids! lol

how do i keep up with what? cooking? we eat almost no processed food, so if i didnt cook we'd all get pretty hungry!

we dont eat any artifical sweeteners or flavorings or dyes in our home. i am concerned that so much stuff on my first post op diet plan are "sugar free" processed products. i have bought hemp Protein powder... its pretty minimally processed. i plan on making and storing homemade Bone Broth (chicken and beef). we get milk right from the farmer, and i have found a brand of plain greek yogurt i like. i also plan on juicing cucumber, romaine, apples, pears, etc. anything low sugar.
i think i will be fine but keep worrying.

Fiber supplements from the drugstore that draw Water from the bowel can actually make things worse.
Probiotics from yogurt and kefir are really important for regulation after after surgery or big dietary changes.
you are better off with fiber from food like oatmeal, chia seeds, sweet potatoes, lentils, dried fruit than laxatives. there is also a supplemental fiber called "konjac root" (which comes from a plant) that is very affective. there is also an herbal supplement called "triphala" which is a mixture of 3 kinds of dried fruit powder. these are things you can take every day which are safer than laxatives. its better to prevent Constipation by making sure there are certain things in your daily diet than trying to treat it whenever it happens.

moonlitestarbrite got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Do u ever wonder how people here eat such a perfect diet - all the time?
i eat dark chocolate!! every day!!
i ate a clean whole foods diet before my surgery. the major changes i made were portion size, (of course) no Pasta (i cant tolerate it), not more than 2 tbsp rice, way less sweets, fruit and raw veggies (cant tolerate). less coffee and wayyyyyy more tea. am i perfect? nope! did i ever want to be? nope. i went out for ice cream the other day with my family. i ate 1/2 of a kiddie cup. it was exactly want i wanted to be able to eat. so, maybe i am perfect. the next day we had a birthday celebration and had BBQ. i did 2 pork ribs, a few bites of mac and cheese and corn bread. yum. again, perfect, for me.
do i always get in all my Protein? nope. all my Water? nope. do i count coffee as a Fluid? yup.
for the people who are able to do it better, more power to them! i Celebrate their control and good choices. i am happy, for the most part, with my choices too. i didnt go through surgery to use my stomach as a garbage can. nope. it was a life altering experience and i have gratitude every day for my second chance in life and i do not plan to waste that by making crappy choices. nope, i am not perfect, but i am making a hell of an effort!

i have been telling people for years... its not what you eat every single meal or even every single day... its the overall composition of your diet and lifestyle. if 80% of your diet is whole foods, with an emphasis on quality Protein, whole veggies, fruit and grains, you are doing great. even 100 pounds overweight, my cholesterol was 2 points away from perfect. i must have been doing at least something right!
that being said, there are plenty of people here who feel that junk food, processed carbs and sugar are trigger foods for them and they need to avoid them totally. i believe that crappy eating begets crappy eating. engineered food products are created with the specific purpose of making you want more of them, not to nourish you. if you are willing to go through this surgery to get healthy, feeling your body nourishing foods is a must. avoiding trigger foods is a must. not to be perfect, but to be successful.

i tend to think that learning new skills and good planning trump any insight... but i get stuck in that belief that i need "something" before i can move on. i was pretty much on my own as a kid and so inside, i drag my feet and pout and tell myself i cant do it, i need someone to hold my hand and care about me. but its just me. i need to care about me as much as i think others need to care about me. its really that simple, but not easy.
