  1. Hi ladies. I'm new here. I've been lurking for a while now. I had my first appointment with my surgeon yesterday. It went very well. I have to do 3 months of pre-work before my insurance will approve me. I'm excited to start my journey but a little nervous. Hoping I can learn more info here. Thanks for all the insight so far.

Oh, btw, I'm in Baton Rouge, LA. Any Louisiana people here?

    Lafayette Louisiana here!

  3. This is pretty scarey but you can stop the weight gain right now and go back to eating Protein first and then some veggies. I do highly recommend that you get back to therapy and work on those negative thoughts in your head to curve this cycle. You are not at a loss, this is just a learning lesson that we all must learn..... Here is a copy of LilMissDiva's "The Basic Bootcamp Diet" that will get the sugar out of your system, to abort the sweet cravings.......BTW i don't believe 150 lbs is where your going to stop, so let your body do the work it is suppose too. Eat under 1200 calories a day. You can do this.. Here is the plan:

    The BASICS BOOTCAMP:

For 5 STRICT DAYS I will eat only...

Proteins: Seafoods, Poultry and eggs, Dairies, nuts/seeds including Peanut Butter.

    Veggies: Green only.

    Fruits: None.

    Breads/Cereals/Other Carbs: None.

Fluids: One gallon of Water (128 oz.) or Protein drinks.

    Avoid: Sugar and Sodium

Once the 5 days are over, I am pretty much over the Sugar Carb Demon. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate carbs! I do need them to live a healthy life and since I workout a lot it is important I have them. However, I need GOOD carbs. Whole grains, fruits, veggies... But I don't need processed sugars. White carbs, in cereals, breads, rice... etc.

    Thx for posting...starting today...

  4. I've let myself indulge in some unhealthy Snacks. I've not gone back to eating fast food, which I struggled badly with before VSG.

    I'm 6 months out. Down 144 lbs since March 22, 2013.

Any tips on how to get back on track? I've scheduled to see a psych to talk thru some of the addictive issues I've been working on for the last two years.

    Thank you!

Thx for sharing i needed this today myself...stuggling myself...

  5. Do NOT go to the grocery store until you have eaten! If you are not hungry, you are less likely to buy junk. Good luck, you can do this! Thank goodness I am still loving the SF popsicles!

Wow...4gotten about the SF Popsicles!....I to lately stuggling but this is what I needed ...back to the basics. ..

  7. 1. Yes, I believe our bodies DO have a set point and many times, it's higher than the goal weight we are striving for or have reached. For me, I found that I reached goal VERY easily in 8 months. 100 pounds gone. Boom. I IMMEDIATELY changed my eating patterns somewhat and for a while all was fine. But it's been proven you need to "hold" a weight for a certain period of time for your "setpoint" to really adjust to that weight 2. Not so much bored with eating plan, I think it is hard for some of us to realize that TRULY we WILL revert to old habits. Of bad eating easier than we ever believe possible. A little here, a little there and over a period of two and half years I regained 27 pounds. 3.I think most of the "vets" will agree (there are a few lucky ones) who will tell you that hunger does return and yes, the dreaded ghrelin can still be produced. Now, some of the actual hunger CAN be increased stomach acid which most don't realize it's that and keep eating to "fill" the hunger pangs. My PCP says he thinks everybody should probably take a small dose acid reducer like Prilosec daily. I have a prescription and use it sporadically because I HAVE found more acid reflux in the last few months. 4. Lose a few more pounds? I had to find a way of maintenance that WORKED for me and that I felt confident in doing. For me, I stumbled onto 5:2 lifestyle, lost the regain, back to original goal of 150, lost another ten and now down another pound on way to another 5 down. With that said, yes, some might be considered vanity but after looking at charts, my age, etc I decided to be at the bottom of my ideal weight range to have a true "bounce" of 3-4 pounds. So far, so good. I think my body has somewhat adjusted easier to this lower weight using 5:2 and Knowing that I Will be disciplined in my approach to eating. Like others have said, realistically, we will NEVER be able to just live as if we were never obese. Our bodies are somewhat metabolically altered. What it takes for a non-obese person to maintain is clearly different from a WLS person (go to research section and read some of the articles). I have been slack in the last couple of weeks and allowed less clean eating than in prior weeks but I know I will be fasting Tuesday and Thursday (500 cals) to help clean up my act! Hope that helps answer some questions.

    Whats the 5:2 diet?

  8. I started eating fruits after 6 weeks. I usually eat two fruits a day. I put fruits in my shake which includes:

1/2 cup of Greek yogurt, non fat

1 cup of lactose free skim milk

    1/2 banana

1/2 cup pineapple, in its own juice.. No sugar or fructose added

    1/8th t . Vanilla flavoring

    1 sweet in low

Little crushed ice if fruits are not frozen.

It takes me about 2 hours to slowly sip my shake. I love it. You can put strawberry, blueberries, mango, canned peaches without added sugar.,

Cantaloupe. Or any combinations u like. I only eat two servings of fruited day.

    How much Protein in this?

  9. This is most hepful to me because I didnt realize this is exactly what im going through..I find myself frustrated when I cant find nothing to fit but its because im shopping in the plus size section still and im thinking right now where will I shop now..sleeved 6/18/2013 hw 349 sw 301 current 206 ....in loose 16 jeans now

  10. A representative just called me. She faxed over the scripts to be signed by my surgeon this morning. I'll follow-up with them at my appointment tomorrow. Once he signs them and sends them back we'll see if my insurance company will cover it. She's getting me the scar cream too. We'll see what happens.

Is this just for those recently having surgery only? What if u are not but have issues with getting Protein levels up
