AmyinMI got a reaction from livelyterry in I did it!
Mine started right before my 3mo mark. Still coming out. I will be 4 months post op 9-15-13. My doctor predicted it should stop next month based on my surgery date, complications & when it started. I keep joking that most of my weight loss is in my hair!! Lol If I'm not laughing, I'd be crying about it.

This is the absolute best thread I have read, Laura you are a hoot!!!!!! People don't understand why we are so passionate about doing the right thing after this surgery. Enough people take short cuts and disobey the dr.'s orders, and suffer serious consequences, and medical emergencies, then the media will say that the surgery is dangerous and bad for people, foreclosing a new life for lots of poor souls. Please lady step away from the Cheerios.

    I'm April 9 too.
Worst pain was the pain where my right shoulder joins my neck, which supposedly was from the gas, but I've had that exact pain before surgery, so who knows. It's gone now, and was never bad enough for pain meds. Still haven't filled that prescription, and hope to never have to!
I was pretty active from the beginning. Surgery Tuesday, by Friday I was out shopping with my mom, Saturday I drove an hour back to my house and spent the day walking between my bedroom and the laundry room doing laundry. Yesterday was my one-week checkup, then errands while I was out. (mail those taxes!) Today I go to shop for foods for the next stage, and maybe try to get on the tractor to do some work.
Slept on my side all night for the first time since surgery!

I was a big coffee drinker before surgery and now after it was hard not having it especially when I wake up @ 2 AM to go to work. I didn't drink any until a month after surgery. I love my coffee and cream and sugar which I know is a bad choice. Any suggestions for me?

You're still healing. Your body could go through all kind of swings. Weigh yourself once a week and just stick to the plan. Then, come back to this post a year from now and laugh your skinny ass off!

Now that you are 7 weeks out are you feeling normal again? I know I am. Things are falling into place and not every waking moment is filled with am I getting enough Water and Protein. Meals are coming easier and the drinking is old hat. Now that dietary restrictions are lifted for me, I am trying new foods everyday. Have even eaten out a few times and my new normal is fantastic!
    Hoping the same for you!

The behaviorist in my program said almost the same thing. There will be a period of loss & mourning. I am finding it helpful to write a physical list of alternatives. Things to do when I would normally turn to food. Good Luck, you can get through this.

I have read way more good stories on here than bad. Just look through some of the before after pics and posts. Look at people's weight trackers and see what they lost. They are losing and they are feeling good if you read them. The biggest trap people can fall into on this or really any forum is reading the negative posts. Its almost human nature to see a title like "OMG I ALMOST DIED" and read that post then start reading other posts just like it. Read those to be educated about the dangers but also read the "OMG I lost a million pounds and feel great" threads too.

The risks can come with anything. Being obese has its own set of risks right? You could just drop dead at anytime from any one of several reasons, stroke, heart attack etc. There are risks with any type of surgery. This is why it is extremely important to find a good doctor with a proven track record and follow their plan to the letter. Also, this process takes a certain mindset. WLS is only a tool, it isn't the magic option that so many people want. It takes work, it takes commitment and it takes guts to face some of things that have become comfortable in our lives. No, I will not tell you that it is easy, in fact it is tough at times. I didn't have any post op complications, but some do. Through the research that I have done, the risk of complications are reduced when you get yourself in as good of physical shape as you can, and incorporate all your caregivers (PCP, Nutritionists, Surgeon, PAs etc) into a single team. Ask all the questions you can to THEM. Don't be afraid of asking something stupid, after it is your life and your well being. A lot of people think that life ends because they can't sit down and chow down, that just simply isn't true. It does mean a significant lifestyle change, but that isn't as bad as you think. I wish that I had done this so many years ago. I was simply fooling myself that I could lose the weight the old fashioned way. I did a lot of times, but every single time the weight returned. I was killing myself with a fork and cup and one day I realized that this was the most stupid thing I could do. I've gotten a second chance at living and I am taking full advantage. Good Luck Hang Tough
